You've got the one we had a wee bit earlier (near Heathrow).
I put tomato plants from the greenhouse outside yesterday morning 😭 - I'm lying awake wondering if they've survived.

Efacsen · 23/06/2026 06:43

We missed the massive storm in the SE by just a few miles - distant faint rumble of thunder only and not a drop of rain - there's a lovely cool breeze atm tho'

See that the Darren Jones challenge is only a 'possibility' not definitely going to happen

Happy Brexit Referendum Anniversary. Hard to believe it is 10 years ago. This is a good read.

I’m recall driving past my polling station and, for the first and last time, seeing a queue of unfashionable people down half the road. I realised then it was at least going to be close.

I recall a couple of friends, who worked as polling clerks, having more ‘stories’ about the voters than usual - the pencil/pen debate also featuring strongly, but this was post knowing the unfashionable vote won out.

I’m told I can’t, or shouldn’t, make assumptions on what I saw/heard - I still do.

TemperanceWest · 23/06/2026 07:12

I have some very, very left wing friends, who voted leave. They thought the resulting ill effects would make the scales fall from the eyes of the proles, who would then turn against the establishment.

Which I suppose they did. But not in the expected direction.

Zonder · 23/06/2026 07:45

10 years! We are in a very anti Brexit area. I remember happily walking to the polls and back thinking no way will it happen. 🥹

It's the 10th anniversary of the dumbest moment in modern British history so let's celebrate some of the idiots who made it happen.

First up ... Jacob Rees-Mogg and his promise of cheap food and wine...

In fact food prices have increased some 12% as a direct result of Brexit (LSE) 1/5

My goodness it was some storm went on what for felt hours can’t remember the last time heard such loud & constant thunder the lightning was pretty scary I hid under the covers at one point.

pointythings · 23/06/2026 08:45

I remember it well. Everyone in the office deeply unhappy. And then Trump won, and my dad died that same month. 2016 was my first annus horribilis. I got 3 more following on.

I remember there being heavy storms overnight on the Brexit vote day too

The symbolism was obvious

Peaked at 22 here, today. About 3 seconds of sunshine. Not disappointed, though my washing was still damp at tea time.

It peaked at 25 here yesterday. The temperature is apparently going to reach 32 today and it won’t go below 20 tonight.

I’m not looking forward to it. My DD1 hates the heat with a passion, she doesn’t cope with it at all. 😢

I was worried about the cat who went missing during the storm. I couldn't see him anywhere. Was yelling outside for him __ went upstairs and there he was- happy as Larry. Must have hidden under the bed. Little bugger.

BestIsWest · 23/06/2026 09:32

I remember saying to DH the day before that I thought Leave would win. Based on my boss reading aloud in the office an article on the number of Eastern European immigrants in Cardiff published on the BBC Website. I’d thought he was a rational man up to that point but he was clearly swayed by that article. I remember being absolutely furious on the Friday morning. Our CEO gave us all a talk about the likely impact and he was clearly cross too.

Too hot here. We’re in the red zone for tomorrow and Thursday.

dontcallmelen · 23/06/2026 09:40

Very pro remain where I am, remember seeing lots of posters in the windows the next it seemed sort of surreal & that feeling of being shocked & horrified in equal measure.
meant to be peaking here at about 33deg it’s very very humid I have a funeral to attend at 3pm.

Lalgarh · 23/06/2026 09:49

The thing with the nationwide referendum was that every vote really did count, unlike in constituency based votes. So your area might have been heavily remain but were outnumbered by the pissed off people in Sunderland and Stoke voting Brexit in droves

I’m loving the stamps further down that thread.

placemats · 23/06/2026 10:16

Are there any threads celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Brexit?

DuncinToffee · 23/06/2026 10:27

Not on the Brexit thread.

What's their take now ?

I may be wrong, but my feeling is that in MN land, no one regrets their vote (adds to list of reasons why we know MN is not real life).
