Farage would absolutely shit himself if a GE was called now. Can he seriously not remember what happened on Friday?

No way they could field the number of candidates required - what little vetting they do would go out of the window.

as I said earlier the Tories are skint and haven’t shed the legacy of the last decade. Kemi needs the election to come much much later.

Badenough being her usual utterly graceless self🙄

If we need the Tories so much, why did they do so badly on the local and by-elections?

Badenoch makes Truss look like a woman of renown and high intellect.

Fracking more likely. US money.

DuncinToffee · 22/06/2026 10:49

Ursula von der Leyen on the other hand

It can take many leaders years to grow into the statesman you became in just two years.

European and Ukrainian security is stronger because of you.

Thank you, dear Keir.

She is devoid of any manners & zero empathy just so graceless the other side of Farage arse cheek.

BIossomtoes · 22/06/2026 11:15

Streeting’s backing Burnham.

DuncinToffee · 22/06/2026 11:16

Good news he is not standing

"Keir Starmer led us to a general election victory that no one thought possible. He kept us out of the war in Iran and has delivered real progress as prime minister at home. He has made the right decision to stand down as the leader of the Labour Party that he saved.

"After a devastating set of election results in May, the Makerfield by-election has proven that Labour can still win if we have the courage to change. It was a victory for unity and hope over division and hatred.

"It was also Andy Burnham’s victory. Andy has shown what Labour can be when we are inclusive, united, and in touch with the lives of the people this Party was founded to represent.

"I left the government because we were losing the fight to nationalists in every corner of the country. I have spent the weeks since speaking to our former councillors, activists and voters in place we lost - to listen and learn from them.

"I've also been setting out ideas to change our country: a plan for Britain to grow again and grow together, with a progressive capitalism focused on wealth creation as much as wealth distribution; to lead the world in the fourth industrial revolution and protect people from its risks; to modernise our public services; to give Britain energy security; to build stronger alliances with democracies around the world and a new special relationship with Europe; and to change the culture of our party so that it is more inclusive and open to ideas.

"Having spoken at length with Andy in recent days, I'm convinced that there is a place for those ideas under his leadership; that he is committed to building an inclusive party that draws on the best of our political traditions; and that he can win the fight of our lives against the forces of nationalism.

"We could spend the summer exaggerating small differences, or we can roll up our sleeves and help him to deliver the change our party and our country needs. That is the choice that I am making and I hope that everyone else will back Andy, too.

"We were elected change our country, to show that politics can be a force for good, and to spread opportunity for everyone. With Andy, we still can."

What Streeting said - can't help but feel that statement is a puff piece all about him.

I'm so sorry to hear of your very sad update, @Evenstar 💐

Absolutely. Streeting is a slippery weasel. He knows he wouldn't win against Burnham. He should fuck off and join the Tories.

BestIsWest · 22/06/2026 11:35

Too right.

It has made me feel very sad that it has come to this. My DH passed away last month, he spent many hours canvassing for Labour before the 2024 election, we both folded leaflets and I made cakes for the local headquarters to keep morale up for the canvassers.

Keir Starmer is fundamentally a decent man and DH was very upset when calls for him to resign started over the Mandelson affair, there have been poor choices and too much drift to the right, but we don’t need to return to Tory chaos and constantly changing Prime Minister. I feel sad on behalf of so many people who worked so hard to deliver that victory in 2024.

So, so sorry for your loss, and a part of the memories seemingly spoiled today - life can be very cruel. 💐

Agree to an extent - Truss was problematic. As her most recent career development has highlighted.

That’s fair! Truss was an example of what a backseat “radical” actually has to offer as PM: spooked financial markets straight out of the gate, and an ever more febrile “the PM is out the way out” media circus.

It says something she wasn’t around enough for me to immediately recall her as a serious problem…

Luckily her legacy will live on. I suspect her "impact against time served" is probably the highest for any PM in history.

Still think Johnson should have been convicted for treason.

Truss was, and is, mentally unstable. That’s why ‘The System’ move so quickly & effectively to get rid of her.

The difference in response by Badenoch and von der Leyen is striking. They have both shown their true selves this morning.

Piggywaspushed · 22/06/2026 12:10

Joining in the sympathies for you evenstar. So sorry.

Kemi B lacks any dignity. I feel sure Starmer would not have done the same if she went. And I actually think Boris and Rishi wouldn't either.

Von der Leyen is completely odious.

Piggywaspushed · 22/06/2026 12:17

In what way? It's not really the point anyway is it?

Lovely statement just come through from Zelensky.

placemats · 22/06/2026 12:20

This month marks the 10 year anniversary of Brexit so there's no surprise in many articles and podcasts about it. Plus polls all of which reflect regret.

None sings its praises.

Burnham would do well to listen: inclusivity and change. One can only hope.
