What filters do you wish you could use on RightMove? Can be serious, light-hearted or both 🙂

Serious- Double garage
Light-hearted- No noisy neighbours!

A floor plan that shows actual room sizes.
A compass to indicate North versus South etc.
The full EPC where all the details are contained.
The full postcode.
The last sold price and date.

All fake '3 bed house, £800 a month' when it's actually 'student let, £1100 each a week based upon 5 sleeping in the living room, 8 others crammed into the bedrooms, attic and one in the bath as long as they take shifts with the other 14 and there's a bucket for the second toilet. Don't forget that your Mum, Dad and five other people earning over £60k need to put their homes up as security and payment has to be up front'.

To be able to search for amount of reception rooms like you can bedrooms. When I search I try and find places with several reception rooms that can become downstairs bedrooms

Being able to search for accessible properties is a great idea @Okdokeyartichoke

@LittlestBoho I like theses ideas too
The floor plan should have a dot showing where the corresponding picture was taken, so you can get your bearings within the house.
Also artsy, super close up pictures taken on a diagonal of e.g. a reed diffuser on a shelf should be banned. Some of these Estate Agents must be failed wedding photographers, always trying to get a unique shot. Show me the rooms and the view from the windows!

Just number of rooms that aren't bathrooms and kitchens would suit me. I don't care how they're currently used, number of rooms per floor would really help though!

Garden/ land size in m2 or acres.
House size in m2

This happens in other countries so can't be difficult to sort out.

Edited to add that service charges should always be declared for leaseholds.

Floorplan to include outside areas so you can see size and shape of everything within the boundary.

This too. Sometimes it is difficult to work out where the outbuildings are in relation to the house.

I’d want to fix some of the more fundamental issues it has first, such as
— A ban on listing somewhere as 4 bedrooms but it actually a 3 bed and the Agent/seller is trying to be clever by labelling the dining room as a bedroom on the floor plan Hmm it’s not a bedroom if it’s not upstairs/in the right place.
— A ban on AI images and descriptions being used. Yes, the property is empty and it looks more appealing if you AI some furniture in, but where is the line? Ban it completely.
— Fix listing rules more generally so that Agents can’t just tick all the boxes, only for it to turn out the “private parking” is actually a permit free for all, or the “garage” it actually a brick outhouse in the back garden that’s totally inaccessible by car!
— Fix the broken filters so that I can select detached houses and bunglows without it throwing an error message or not showing half the properties

More generally, and outside of Rightmove really, normalise including details of why this “amazing investment opportunity” is a total shithole rather than waste people’s time for them to realise it’s not just a quick fix, normalise pictures of the garages, sheds, outbuildings and loft spaces being included, fix the process so that buyers have access to survey details and true valuation details before putting offers in that they inevitably have to renegotiate or that the bank refuses to honour because they valued the house properly rather than plucking a figure out of their arse like the Agent has. In fact, just fuck the gents out of here entirely. Total waste of space.

THEN we can think about all the fancy new filters Grin

A lovely well kept garden

playthepianomakemeswoon123 · 12/06/2026 21:25

Definitely filter ones with no floor plan. I don't get why you wouldn't pay for this

MorrisZapp · 12/06/2026 21:27

This might already exist, but for flats I don't want ground floor.

GOODCAT · 13/06/2026 07:55

Let you search for any word in the description not just those that are in rightmove's list, filter by any distance from a postcode (i want to do 2 miles) and filter by council tax band.

Cherrysoup · 13/06/2026 14:17

Views
No near neighbours
Land
Fuel types
Workshop

S’funny, we’d had houses on watch on rightmove for months, both determined we’d love the first one. Hated it. Went to see another that we’d just added and ended up buying.

ToadRage · 13/06/2026 14:39

Holiday park homes. I was looking in Devon with a v. small budget a little while ago and lots that came up were holiday parks, it was annoying.

GinToBegin · 13/06/2026 14:41

Annexe.
Castle.
Lighthouse.

HedgehogHome · 13/06/2026 15:02

A sea view

JustGiveMeReason · 13/06/2026 16:09

It would be nice if the 'distance' filter worked. So 'This area plus 3 miles' doesn't get filled up with things that are 6, 7, 8 or more miles away.

For me I want ground floor and garden.

Open plan - I know some people really like it, but I don’t want a downstairs that has no walls.

Same. I hate open plan.
