What filters do you wish you could use on RightMove? Can be serious, light-hearted or both 🙂

Serious- Double garage
Light-hearted- No noisy neighbours!

Age of property. So filters for pre 1900, 1900-1940, 1940-1960 etc

Yep! Came to say this.

Apartment maintenance charges should be a mandatory field. Currently a lot of them say 'ask agent' which is secret estate agent code for '£5k a year, but we know that's offputting so we'll keep it a secret until you're invested in the property'.

The floor plan should have a dot showing where the corresponding picture was taken, so you can get your bearings within the house.

Also artsy, super close up pictures taken on a diagonal of e.g. a reed diffuser on a shelf should be banned. Some of these Estate Agents must be failed wedding photographers, always trying to get a unique shot. Show me the rooms and the view from the windows!

We looked at a house recently that had loads of these kinds of pictures. They were really beautifully staged pictures but every single one focused on objects that the owners would take with them. Just why?!

Type of soil. When we were house hunting DH was interested in boring stuff like plumbing and wiring. I was concerned about if the soil was suitable for the plants I wanted to grow. We actually rejected an otherwise perfect house because it was on clay.

Width of windowsills, again for plant purposes.

Do the neighbours have cats? For avoiding cat poo issues.

I doubt if Rightmove would adopt any of these but happy to do my own research actually.

Period/Newbuild or even better by decade or architectural era.

bananaapplepears · 10/06/2026 13:29

Annex would be helpful for me.

Garden
Driveway
Garage

You can filter by garden but it includes tiny balconies on blocks of flats.

Nodwyddaedafedd · 10/06/2026 13:33

Show the reductions - so what it went on for, when it reduced and how much for.

Dragonhugs · 10/06/2026 13:33

Is the garden overlooked?
Not that I'm in a position to buy but that would be one of the top things I'd look at

DoAWheelie · 10/06/2026 13:40

A way to filter out properties being let by room that actually works. Trying to look for a 3+ bedroom place to rent is like pulling teeth wading through badly listed HMOs.

I also wish there was a "damp and mouldy" filter so you can weed those out too.

dontletmedownbruce · 10/06/2026 13:44

Bath (as opposed to shower cubicle or ‘wet room’)

A bath is so v v important to me.

dontletmedownbruce · 10/06/2026 13:45

Aspect of garden. South or West-facing only for me

PixeyandDixey · 10/06/2026 16:11

If it's shared drive, own drive or garage.

Probably not possible but equal sized bedrooms. Fed up of looking at 3 bed houses with the 3rd bedroom barely big enough for a bed.

Houses with annexes. Can't afford one or the council tax that comes with them but nice to look at.

That's an odd one as a dealbreaker - you're not a gardener, I guess?

No, a sunbather. If a garden is small and north facing and surrounded by 2 storey dwellings, you’re lucky to see any sun at all.

Management/Estate fee. It always is in the section that says 'ask agent'. So many people don't realise an estate has fees or is 'fleecehold' until they've appointed a solicitor and are already into the buying process.

Also the true date a property was listed. Not relisted/reduced etc. A house by me has been up for sale for over a year, but Rightmove has it listed as going up for sale just over a month ago.

abracadabra1980 · 10/06/2026 16:47

Oh god, so many. I actually mentioned this to the estate agent when I moved last year. I nearly always know exactly what I want in my head. To filter i'd need 'stone outbuilding' 'nearby burn' 'village feeling' 'access to bridleways' ' 'cottage appeal' 'quaint' 'view from front' 'view from back' 'total hours shadow' (for garden) 'original coal hole' 'wildlife visible' - all that is probably a bit much but it's what I'd search for if available.

ReverseFerret · 10/06/2026 17:11

A comments section would be fun!

Springpartyideas · 10/06/2026 17:15

I’d like to be able to specify land with the house in the same way you search for a certain number of bedrooms. Appreciate this is quite niche though

abracadabra1980 · 10/06/2026 17:18

Great thread, OP! Could I also add I'd like Vinted to include 'patterned' or 'plain' in their filters, or 'smoking/non smoking' home... sorry to digress from housing but it got me thinking!

Okdokeyartichoke · 10/06/2026 17:27

A filter for level access and home would be amazing - really useful for anybody getting older/anybody with disabilities. Im tired of wading through fifty pictures before I can figure out that there are five steps to the front door so it’s totally impossible.

Great idea!

South- or West- facing rear garden.

FirstNationsEnglish · 10/06/2026 17:32

solar panels fitted to roof
foam cavity wall insulation
driveway
ground floor toilet

Oh, I get you - so it's not really aspect, it's being shaded. Agree.

TotallyJacquelineHigh · 10/06/2026 18:03

Open plan - I know some people really like it, but I don’t want a downstairs that has no walls.
