What extra filters would you like Rightmove to offer?

What filters do you wish you could use on RightMove? Can be serious, light-hearted or both 🙂

Serious- Double garage
Light-hearted- No noisy neighbours!

OP posts:

Square footage
Better price banding- as the house price increases, the bands get far too wide
Approx age of house
A single/double bedroom filter

JustMyView13 · 10/06/2026 10:14

I really wish you could select that you hated a house, and it never showed up in your search again.

Blingismything · 10/06/2026 10:19

Heating method
On a Rat-Run road
Proximity to an A road or motorway
Minimum garden size
Aspect of garden

Agapornis · 10/06/2026 10:21

'Garden' should be split into garden with soil, balcony, and astroturf. A balcony is NOT a garden.

CornishPorsche · 10/06/2026 10:23

Absolute filter for garage - no garage, don't show it to me.

Ban all holiday homes from the site - needs a separate section.

Same for student accommodation that cannot be used by anyone else.

Penelopeeee · 10/06/2026 10:24

There is a new keyword search being trialled on Rightmove. I always use this on Zoopla so I can search for land and outbuildings so it’s great to have it on Rightmove too.

WhatAMarvelousTune · 10/06/2026 10:02

On Rightmove you can select for it not to show retirement

Yes, and we do. But half the retirement properties aren't filtered out by it

GingerLeopard · 10/06/2026 10:26

I'd like to be able to filter by number of bathrooms/toilets. We only wanted houses with a downtairs/second loo. Similarly, number of reception rooms/conservatory. Would be much easier to narrow down things we were looking for then.

hididdlyho · 10/06/2026 10:28

Garden size and square footage of house. I'm not fussed about number of bedrooms, but am looking to upsize and some 4/5 bedroom houses are only the same size as our current 3 bed house.

ByWittyGoose · 10/06/2026 10:28

As a renter
Whether the landlord is accidental, pension pot or a proper business.

I'd love uber style scores for both tenants and landlords

RockinCara · 10/06/2026 10:33

Land. And no near neighbours.

EstoyRobandoSuCasa · 10/06/2026 10:33

Council Tax band

No, I don't want your two-bedroom flat in a 70's apartment block if it's Band D. It ought to be Band B at most.

wifty · 10/06/2026 10:34

With rentals, I’d like to select a period for the start date of tenancy - right now it just says move in by… think July/August
You can add it as a word filter, but it doesn’t capture it sometimes if it’s not in the description

Other would be whether there are student houses nearby !!! Learnt that the hard way lol

coulditbeme2323 · 10/06/2026 10:35

Is this a divorce, bankruptcy or money grabbing kids probate so I can get a good deal.

McSpoot · 10/06/2026 10:36

AWeeCupOfTeaAndAnIndividualFruitTrifle · 10/06/2026 09:48

Filters for 'quirky', 'cool', 'characterful' or 'historical with unspoiled period features and not all bland, grey and glass inside'. Property porn, basically.

The problem is that agents would cotton on and then every property would suddenly be 'characterful' or 'quirky' - so if everything is special then nothing is, and it renders it pointless.

Funny, I was reading your first paragraph as a way to filter those OUT. Seems that a lot of the time, those words are used to describe places that need of work where they cannot think of other positive words.

EllieQ · 10/06/2026 10:37

Whether the property has the main bathroom upstairs or downstairs. This probably only applies to the smaller terraced houses that were built with limited indoor plumbing in the 1800s/ early 1900s and bathrooms were often added in a downstairs extension.

Lots of the houses in our area are like this, and when we were searching for our current house it was really irritating to find one in the right area/ price bracket then discover it was a downstairs bathroom only. It was one of the few things I didn’t want to compromise on!

pussymum · 10/06/2026 10:42

A bungalow that means a bungalow- not a chalet house with bedrooms in the bloody roof. 😡

on this note I am seriously contemplating writing to my local planning dept. Where I live there are few bungalows, when they come up for sale they are snapped up by developers and converted into houses. Drives me nuts.

lighthearted: parking issues at school time!

anyolddinosaur · 10/06/2026 10:44

proximity to stations. If you are potentially looking over a wide area then its just too time consuming to set up.

Also distance to next house so I can filter out the "detached" houses that have 2 inches between them and the next property.

non serous - filter out any property with pictures that just show a table or a vase or anything else that doesnt let me see what the damn property looks like.

MustUseAName · 10/06/2026 10:47

I want to exclude holiday parks. If you search for houses in some areas, you’re flooded with overpriced caravans and lodges.

m1ghtl1ke · 10/06/2026 10:49

Filter out houses with no floor plans! My biggest bug bear. I always assume it means they are trying to hide an awkward layout

Flizzy · 10/06/2026 10:50

www.geoglider.com/
This website is an API to Rightmove and has a lot of the features mentioned, e.g square footage (and £/sqft) and, say, cycling distance to any station. I find the public transport time one dubious though. It has ones for garage, off street parking etc. You can even select for proximity to Waitrose!

I would like the ratio of square foot of windows to square foot of floor space. I need all the light!

Yeah, I always think that when an estate agent describes something as “characterful” they mean “a complete mess”.

EndofDaze · 10/06/2026 11:01

Garden size. En suite.

Edited to say Garden size in metres like they give room dimensions.

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 10/06/2026 11:04

WallaceinAnderland · 10/06/2026 09:42

Floorplan to include outside areas so you can see size and shape of everything within the boundary.

This! Technically when you buy a house you are buying the plot of land, it's bonkers that you don't have to list it.

I would like the house type filters to work.

You can't rely on detached etc to return ALL and ONLY detached houses.

DilemmaDelilah · 10/06/2026 11:04

How many floors, and whether there are any ground floor bedrooms.
Also - whether the house has any disability adaptations.
