What filters do you wish you could use on RightMove? Can be serious, light-hearted or both 🙂

Serious- Double garage
Light-hearted- No noisy neighbours!

Parking, needs to btoken down into PRIVATE OFF ROAD and ON ROAD PERMIT PARKING. Huge difference.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 10/06/2026 11:07

You can add a keyword - I just tried "double garage" & it seems to work.

GasPanic · 10/06/2026 11:19

Just include all the information clearly. Rather than allowing it to be hidden under "ask agent" which to me is normally a red flag that something negative is about to be revealed.

For example all maintenance charges and what they include.
Council tax bands.
Whether or not the estate is unadopted.
Previous sales price and dates.
Sqr ft.

All of this can be found out anyway, so not giving people all the info is just like delaying the inevitable.

A view. We are looking to downsize and would comprise on many things for this.

Also a view/not overlooked.

Actually looking back at it now the only filter there currently is for cars is ‘parking’, you can’t even filter by garage! Personally we’re looking for a house that needs to have a double garage and I’m wasting so much time having to click on each house to see if it has one or not.

It drives me nuts that you cannot filter on garage / garden size.

countrygirl99 · 10/06/2026 11:30

No artificial grass. Fed up of thinking that might work only to realise it's a plastic garden.

JulietteHasAGun · 10/06/2026 11:32

“Hallway together semi”.
id live in such a semi but not a normal semi where the front rooms are together.

also “end terrace “ as id potentially live in an end terrace but not a mid terrace.

gleefie · 10/06/2026 11:33

accessibility. I am wanting to buy a flat that I can have a child in. So it either needs to be on the first floor or have a lift for a buggy. I can imagine this is challenging for those with wheel chairs too! I wish there was a single button filter for this

LittlestBoho · 10/06/2026 11:41

Apartment maintenance charges should be a mandatory field. Currently a lot of them say 'ask agent' which is secret estate agent code for '£5k a year, but we know that's offputting so we'll keep it a secret until you're invested in the property'.

The floor plan should have a dot showing where the corresponding picture was taken, so you can get your bearings within the house.

Also artsy, super close up pictures taken on a diagonal of e.g. a reed diffuser on a shelf should be banned. Some of these Estate Agents must be failed wedding photographers, always trying to get a unique shot. Show me the rooms and the view from the windows!

Balcony filter when looking for flats!

BrieAndChilli · 10/06/2026 11:47

a filter to ensure 'All bedrooms are actual bedrooms and not a dining room reclassed as a bedroom to make it seem bigger and more expensive or a bedroom has been labelled as a bedroom but you have to walk through it to access another bedroom'

can you tell that when we were looking for a 4 bed about half the houses did not have 4 actual fully private, usable bedrooms!!

Me too. I want a view.

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 10/06/2026 12:24

As a similar poster said, a filter for A roads, in fact any busy road. If i see a house i like i immediately check the map before i go any further. That is my biggest criteria.
you can do a keyword search for double garage but it still brings up all sorts of garages and car ports.

nopiesleftinthisvehicle · 10/06/2026 12:30

'Not overlooked' is my absolute number one criteria.
I don't care if it's a Mansion, if it's overlooked anywhere in any corner, it's not happening.

I'm always skipping through multiple photos to check and sometimes it isn't clear at all.

HouseHouseHouse7 · 10/06/2026 12:41

I was looking for a property in a particular town but I dislike a particular part of that town. Let’s say the part I dislike is called “Sandton” So, I’d like to be able to exclude “Sandton” from the results.

I agree that a “don’t show this property again” button would be helpful. It could also aid estate agents because if lots of people were selecting it, it could - maybe - imply that something was amiss with the listing or the price I guess.

Portakalkedi · 10/06/2026 12:48

So many things. RM is crap considering they are the biggest, when they should already have a comprehensive list of filters.

SarahAndQuack · 10/06/2026 13:02

Garden and garden size would be wonderful.

When I was last house hunting we went to look at a house advertised as having something like an acre or 3/4 of an acre (I can't remember, honestly, but enough you could have had a paddock for a horse). When we got there it was a narrow strip of garden that went back quite a long way, perfectly pleasant but absolutely nowhere close to an acre or even 1/4 of an acre. The agent said, bemused, that she'd really struggled with people coming for viewings and asking where the rest of the garden was - it was big, wasn't it, so why did anyone care how big?! Hmm

Listed/not listed would be helpful, and conditions on sale. It annoys me reading through a whole description only to find it's for agricultural workers only.

Garden weed smoking neighbours

TheKittenswithMittens · 10/06/2026 13:06

Do neighbours have white vans. When looking at a house, I always reject if any neighbours have a white van.

Serious:
> Actual walking distance/time to the train station. Not as the crow flies distance because I can't walk through walls or cross fucking motorways. But actual distance taking in turns twist, turns and traffic lights.
> Occupation status of surrounding houses - owner occupied, HMO, private rented, Air BnB etc.

Not too serious:
> Neighbours with children.
> Fake grass.
> DIY enthusiasts next door.
