Belfast attack

Greenwitchart · 09/06/2026 17:51

I can see that the previous thread on the topic is full so I am starting a new one to continue the discussion.

The points I wanted to say as someone who immigrated to the UK over 30 years ago:

  • This is a horrific attack and everyone's thoughts should be with the victim and his loved one.
  • However, I do think that we have an issue with some people getting into the country whether legally or illegally who simply don't have the same values as the majority of the population and are not able to follow its laws and customs.
  • The asylum and immigration system needs a serious overall and to do more to stop men who are a potential danger to society because of their beliefs/culture/failure to integrate getting through the system and ending up committing violent acts. Some people destroy their documents and checks can only go so far when it is hard to verify claims and the chaotic countries they come from does not have reliable records that can be accessed . There are many peaceful and genuine asylum seekers who just want a safe place to live in peace but we seem to be getting in too many angry, violent men who abuse the system and that has to stop.
  • I don't want to share the streets with people who have no respect for women and girls, are religious fanatics to the point of extremism or show hate towards gay people and bring violence in general.
  • Having people from different cultures coming in is fine as long as they integrate well and take on the values of the country they live in. It does not work if they just live parallel lives and fail to follow the law of the land.

We spend £70 million pounds a year on interpreters and that is excluding BSL.

Presumably in the real world people have ..ahem...learn a language and that takes time. Would some of this "we" spending be on holiday makers? Seems fairly non specific to me ..which service and for whom?

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 10/06/2026 00:01

You think a police officer couldn’t spell those words?

You think the police officer started a fire?

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 10/06/2026 00:02

Allisnotlost1 · 10/06/2026 00:00

You’re upset that deaf people need interpreters as well?

That number EXCLUDES the amount we spend on BSL translators.

I could have sworn you were calling me illiterate a few pages ago.

Oh, another one!

Reform? Hell would freeze over before I voted for them, so don’t make assumptions.

Carry on defending the rights of men from violent, misogynistic, backward countries. You look like a gang of lunatics. You are part of the problem and it’s sickening.

Backward countries?? Wow

He agrees with the source of their anger. He doesn’t agree with their actions. Why is this so hard for you to comprehend?

All these threads on the same subject.

There is no answer to all of this.

We are a country divided and nobody can fix it.

We just have to navigate our way around a fast changing landscape, and any one who dissents is called a bad name but nothing else will change, every day life will get more violent.

No (uninvited) asylum seekers. Immediate deportation to a third country for anyone who arrives would make people feel listened to.

If people know that they will be removed immediately to Rwanda they will cease to come.
No route to claim asylum after arriving as a student/on holiday etc. Deport either back to their country or a third country immediately.

This won't solve everything but it will make the public feel listened to and stop the problems escalating.

Backward countries?? Wow

What would you call countries where women aren’t allowed to be seen or heard in public or even look out of their windows?

Christ.

As someone who lives in Belfast, if you think these scumbags actually care about the victim, I have a bridge to sell you.

This is what they do. It's a night out for them; any excuse will do.

Absolutely agree with this. There will be a few people out because they are legitimately worried about what's happened but for most especially the ones who are rioting, setting homes and cars on fire and being intimidating it's just to feel powerful and like a big man. It's nothing to do with what happened.

Eta this may be difficult for some to understand and it may seem far fetched but this is also troubles legacy.

BatchCookBabe · 09/06/2026 20:41

Don't let them get to you. Flowers Fortunately, people like @Blightfitting are a dying breed. As I said, the tide is turning, hard and fast. It's such a relief, and I am so relieved to see happening that I don't give a shiny dog's bollock that there are still a small minority of people claiming ANYone who dares to say anything against this individual (and his ilk) is racist. I'm just rolling my eyes at them, seriously....

Do you not think that perhaps threads like these pull in those with the most extreme views? What happened today was heinous. The immigration system in this country is completely broken. Nevertheless, some of the views posted on this thread are outright racist. Some of the people posting here and the people out rioting in the streets are the same sort of people who in years gone by would have participated in lynchings and things like Kristallnacht.

The bulk of interpreter costs are for technical purposes - healthcare, legal proceedings. I’d rather we spend more on language lessons, like lots of countries do for foreign nationals but part of the hostile environment was to make it harder for people to learn English and then use it as a reason to not let them stay. Hasn’t worked, just ghettoised people.

The source of their anger?? ...having a ruck because racism is ok now? Having fun smashing things up. Starting fires. Damaging property and attacking people in their homes shouting foreigners out...is ok? Right right

Undocumented men from violent and misogynistic countries arriving in their tens of thousands.

Yep ...does that challenge the lies you tell yourself to make this running mob feel ok?

What running mob are you talking about?
Challenge me to do what?
If you want to see the Digwa family as a shining example of integration bully for you. You obviously have low standards.
Of all the hills to die on you really picked the scum of the earth.

Exactly what it makes me think of too.

Night.

"Immediate deportation to a third country for anyone who arrives would make people feel listened to."

Which people? I don't support this or any other abuse of human rights. Nor do the majority of people I know.

This is the problem with echo chambers (and I know it works both ways), when you think you're speaking for 'the public' you think everyone agrees with you but they don't. There were many people against the plan for deportations to Rwanda for example. People are getting angry because the government aren't listening to them but they forget that there are other people who disagree who are also being vocal.

Some people in the UK would like to deport asylum seekers.

Others in the UK would like to stop the actions of violent, misogynist men setting fires and threatening innocent people.

What's the best way to stop the home-grown, violent misogynists, of which we have so many in the UK?

Holiday makers make up less than 15% of that £70m

Yes, yes. We can all have different opinions here. Shocking.

Do you really think your hyperbolic comments make you sound like the voice of reason? Because you certainly aren't helping anyone.

Afghanistan is an unpleasant place because of factors such as war, poor conditions for agriculture, and very low economic development cause by those two things.

None of those things prevent women from being free to leave their home unaccompanied, to get an education or medical care. That is all the men's doing. As is fighting.

We need to start holding policy makers, politicians, and members of groups enabling this destruction accountable.

See High Treason, of the Treason Act 1351:
"adhering to the sovereign's enemies, giving them aid and comfort, in the realm or elsewhere"

God. Straight out of a certain playbook. You'll be setting up the People's Court next.

You do realise that the men who saved the other man were immigrants don’t you?

The main hero in question is called Maitiu Mág Tighearnán

Is this a joke?

The absolute state they’ve allowed Europe to descend to 🤢

Thoughts with the injured man 🙏
