Belfast attack

1000 replies

Greenwitchart · 09/06/2026 17:51

I can see that the previous thread on the topic is full so I am starting a new one to continue the discussion.

The points I wanted to say as someone who immigrated to the UK over 30 years ago:

  • This is a horrific attack and everyone's thoughts should be with the victim and his loved one.
  • However, I do think that we have an issue with some people getting into the country whether legally or illegally who simply don't have the same values as the majority of the population and are not able to follow its laws and customs.
  • The asylum and immigration system needs a serious overall and to do more to stop men who are a potential danger to society because of their beliefs/culture/failure to integrate getting through the system and ending up committing violent acts. Some people destroy their documents and checks can only go so far when it is hard to verify claims and the chaotic countries they come from does not have reliable records that can be accessed . There are many peaceful and genuine asylum seekers who just want a safe place to live in peace but we seem to be getting in too many angry, violent men who abuse the system and that has to stop.
  • I don't want to share the streets with people who have no respect for women and girls, are religious fanatics to the point of extremism or show hate towards gay people and bring violence in general.
  • Having people from different cultures coming in is fine as long as they integrate well and take on the values of the country they live in. It does not work if they just live parallel lives and fail to follow the law of the land.

It’s ridiculous of some posters to come on a thread about a brutal attempted beheading that happened yesterday on the streets of Belfast and want to talk about “all the terrible things which happened under the name of The Empire “

Have I said that? No.

So what you mean is, the police officer agrees with the masked mobs attacking homes, setting fires, damaging property, and targeting ethnic minority residents - ie, far-right crowds engaging in violent disorder?

And all of that's ok with you?

Edited

Sorry where did I say that was ok?

I’m glad you mentioned that. If a load of Brits move to a Spanish town, continue to speak English, don’t integrate, generally take over and affect the local culture, nobody has an issue with saying that’s wrong. When the local community complain about it, how many fellow Spanish people from other areas do you think leap to the defence of the Brits? Tell them it’s not as bad as they’re making out? Defend their right to change the culture and community, and continue to speak English? None, probably.

Now let’s look to England to the (working class) towns and cities who’ve had their local culture and communities absolutely destroyed. Changed beyond comprehension. To the people who feel like strangers in their own hometowns. Why is it that they’re accused of racism, bigotry and ignorance when all they ever wanted was to preserve their culture and their communities? The answer is usually classism btw.
Because so many middle and upper class people don’t see the issues in their own communities and it doesn’t affect them ,they just don’t care…It’s simply an opportunity to show off how “tolerant” and “progressive” they are. I mean, it’s only poor people after all. Do the commoners even know what culture is? Amirite? It’s just so easy for you to call Brits thick and ignorant, much more difficult to actually have empathy and consider how things might impact people who aren’t you.

See this is ridiculous because I fall into that category of living in an estate with a large population of newcomers. Do the faces i see around me look different now than when I was growing up here, yes they do. Has that affected me in any way? No. Has that taken anything away from my culture? No. Has it reduced my ability to speak my own language? No (I've actually yet to meet someone who hasn't learnt English as the vast majority of newcomers do).

There is plenty of space to practice and celebrate your own culture and language without it taking away from anyone else's. But if you are viewing other people as a threat then I'm sure it will feel like one.

I've made lots of new friends who are migrants. That's taken nothing from me in any way but they certainly add a lot to my life.

I always think it's really telling when people have debates like this who are the people who actually know some migrants personally, who has actually got to know asylum seekers personally and who is just looking at them as one homogeneous group with no individuality. It's like the pp who said they can't think of anything positive about immigration - very clear they haven't met anyone who's a migrant who's been a force for good in their life unlike the many other people who now have new friends, husbands/ wives, family members as a result of migration who bring lots of joy to their life.

White privilege.

When a white person commits a crime, it’s the individual that it’s the wrong.

When a non-white person commits a crime, it’s the entire population of non-white people who are to blame.

There have been multiple stabbings over the past couple of weeks.
Why do some get so much attention and hate than others.

Why are black peoples homes being set on fire.
Why are they being forced to leave their homes out of fear of violence or death.
These people did nothing wrong.

This absolutely this...all the time...an excuse ...fueled by the death of real people who are used by a disgusting mob for entertainment and unleashed physical or verbal violence

There is no intention or wish on this thread to prevent more suffering

Yes because the only solution to hate and violence is... more hate and violence? 🙄🙄🙄

We have looked to Government for a decade and they have done fuck all. In fact, they have made it worse.

When were we looking to government? When we voted for Brexit? When Reform went up in the world?

Because what's happening and the issues we have now is absolutely a direct result of public voting.

Supersimkin7 · 09/06/2026 23:56

Where the centre leaves a vacuum, the far left and right spot an opportunity.

This. Sharpen up, ignore Gertie Goad and Lou Nee Left.

A couple of streets from an old prison officers college for me turned into an asylum seekers reception centre AND a street from that a bail hostel and category A prison
No problems at all...well not from the dispossessed...from UK drunken men and increasingly women...a fair amount of crime

He agrees that undocumented men from violent and misogynistic countries are a threat to our safety.

Surely you don’t need everything spelling out to you. Surely you can work some of this stuff out yourself?

I’d hazard a guess that not one of those fire starters could even spell all those words.

Their motivations are not some noble resistance, and never were. God you’re gullible.

Honestly, your little "You can't sit with us", Reform Girlie Gang attitude is embarrassing.

What makes you think the Digwa family didn’t integrate? The father was known as Gary at work, because his employees who were mostly white Brits, couldn’t pronounce his very uncomplicated name (Moga). Sounds pretty integrated to me.

Are you for real?

I don’t. I was responding to your post about people being unreasonable expecting immigrants to speak English in public. Anyway, I think we’ve exhausted this specific point now. My head’s starting to hurt, so I’m off to bed….

The main hero in question is called Maitiu Mág Tighearnán

We spend £70 million pounds a year on interpreters and that is excluding BSL.

You’re upset that deaf people need interpreters as well?

Do you show the same level of outrage when a white man assaults or murders his partner, or is your anger only triggered when the offender fits a particular narrative?

Calling me "loony lefty","your kind", and claiming I'm boring people isn't an answer. It's just name-calling in place of an argument.

If you disagree with my point, explain why. If not, the insults speak for themselves.

Oh, another one!

Reform? Hell would freeze over before I voted for them, so don’t make assumptions.

Carry on defending the rights of men from violent, misogynistic, backward countries. You look like a gang of lunatics. You are part of the problem and it’s sickening.
