We can’t really carry out checks to give us a clue as the Taliban don’t prosecute or keep diligent criminal records, especially on sexual or misogynistic crimes.

If we can't carry out checks then we don't let them in. They are a security risk and a potential threat to ordinary people.

You don’t really have a leg to stand on when you’re just throwing the word ‘racist’ around! You lost all credibility when you mentioned that word. Unless you’re still stuck in the 2000s when the racist card was in fashion, the word ‘racist’ has now lost its meaning because of people like you throwing it around willy nilly to try and shut down, gaslight and silence people. Unfortunately throwing the racist card around no longer works in 2026 because it’s been done to death!

Are you saying that today it’s ok to be a racist, just it wasn’t a few years ago?

And we are supposed to be progressing …

there is no evidence the attack was racist

still no reason to hold the rest of the population to ransom telling businesses to close so they can have a excuse to wreck the place.

@chaos76 did you object to the BLM riots in which a lot of damage was done?

In Belfast?

No I’m saying just calling people ‘racists’ because they are having a protest doesn’t wash anymore. That card was played so much over the last 3 decades the word racist has lost its meaning!
Stop twisting my words

Reason to hate men #137651

No more reason to hate men than the girl who attacked classmates is a reason to hate women. Given that this site is called Mumsnet, it's likely that many people on here have at least one son, and we love them just as much as our daughters, and don't want them hated just because they're male. Some people are bad. It's wrong to then hate everyone of that sex/skin colour/religion.

Are we going with specifically just Sudanese that shouldnt get leave to remain then? Good job they updated his nationality - we might have been banning the wrong nationality earlier 🙈

I would ban Somali men too

You mean he should do nothing to address the concerns people have or the potential risks to public safety for another year or two until after then end of the court case?

Does that include not calling people upset and afraid ‘far right’?

👏

What’s less acceptable is to start bellowing “racist” as a response to people’s concerns, nay fears.

When the reaction to an attempted beheading (a beheading ffs!) is to first worry about people being racist then surely things have reached a pretty pass.

Alarm about thousands of men - visa or no visa - of a very different culture, wandering about with poor prospects and no womenfolk, is common sense .

2bh I’m at the point of banning men entirely from
the asylum process. Only 20% are women currently. Boat crossings, I think I read 2-4% were women.

Some argue this is because the men make the crossing then bring over dependents but there’s no data backing that up. What I see is hoards of young men taking up our housing stock, our NHS, our benefits and leaving women and children to languish in the shit holes they helped create and left behind whilst bringing that same behaviour over here.

We needed to have better asylum processes in foreign countries donkeys years ago so stepping foot on our soil didn’t mean you could just stay. But we’re now so saturated with arrivals that I don’t truly believe we have the room or resource to help those women and children. It’s quite angering that we’ve been taken the piss out of so royally.

So where’s the evidence?

Is that all you care about when a man's in hospital with his head almost severed from his neck?

ATrollHunter · Yesterday 16:07

There were no threads and no public outrage/debate about Jamal Ringrose.

Why?

Simple. Doesn't fit their narrative.

chaos76 · Yesterday 16:08

I have no issue with the union jack being flown in England and why would the situation be different if it was reversed not every attack is just race based

The whole asylum system needs an overhaul. Allowing in predominantly young males who we know nothing about, from very different cultures, and releasing them into the community (usually the poorest communities) is a recipe for disaster.

It leads to situations like this latest one in Belfast. And sadly, this won't be the last.

Ban them as well. No more in from the boats at all, none whatsoever.

X is awful. Its been reported on BBC. People - unfortunately - get stabbed everyday. Why so much interest in this?

There will be demonstrations, and the mainstream media will of course characterize them as ‘far right’, rather than desperately angry and worried ordinary citizens.

They are far right because the demonstrations are only put on when it’s a non-white person who has committed a heinous crime.

Where were the demonstrations when Louise Hunt, Hannah Hunt and Carol Hunt were all murdered by crossbow killer, Kyle Clifford?

PinkandPerky · Yesterday 16:10

MLMsuperfan · Yesterday 13:52

Fun fact, when adjusted for age and sex, immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than UK citizens. https://migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/commentaries/migrant-convictions-and-prison-population/

People really don't want to acknowledge this simple fact.
It obliterates their misguided anger attempts.

I’m not upset because I know it’s a load of bollocks, in fact this over use of the racist card is quite frankly, laughable. I always have a bet with myself to see who will throw the word around first. 😂

What I cannot get past is people who are upset about a protest because someone was beheaded then feel the need to hurl the word “racist” around with no evidence that anyone is racist!

No.
We’re saying it’s not a fail safe way to shut down concerns and conversations anymore.
