A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

30 July another probable date for the diary.

Greater Manchester Mayoral by-election if Burnham does get elected in Makerfield.

Nothing like a summer election 🤔

Thank you. I'm looking forward to a new mayor.

Bye Andy 👋 😁

🙄 So this defence plan, expected last autumn, and 9 months late will be ripped up and Burnham thinks he as a loophole through...state funded house building? Wtf...are the military to wait until houses are built by the state and then sold before they can defend the country 🤣🤣🤣

Maybe we'll all get a hurley stick and asked to make the best of it in the meantime?

Fuck knows (yes I'm still in a mood). If I find it again, I'll post on here. It was either the Times, or Sam Coates. Possibly a podcast.

Yes to the Hurley stick. Could come in handy! Or I could get a massive dog? Or both? Decisions decisions.

Deep heat in mine and DD's bags at all times now.

Deep heat?
Told DP last night that I’m taking up hockey.

Yes! I used to carry a travel sized hairspray, but got the deep heat suggestion from another MNer. I reckon it would sting a bit if it got in one's eyes iykwim. 😉

Oh man, deep heat? That's ground zero of asthma attacks for me, alongside Pledge. I've only got my keys and a fierce temper to keep me safe.

Excellent PMQs for Kemi.
Again, Starmer looked pathetic. He was mis-pronouncing his words and Labour MPs very quiet. They look thoroughly fed up with him.

Starmer would not rule out more tax rises, or cutting NHS spending to fund defence. He also failed to deny that the DIP will amount to £13bn, which is less than half of the requested £28bn. I don't know how he can show his face at the Nato summit. He's utterly pointless.

Labour back benchers know that the game is up. I've noticed empty benches many times recently when even a labour member is proposing something.

There's a home made recipe a mumsnetter put up once. I think cayenne pepper was involved.

Upstartled · 10/06/2026 15:11

Thanks. It comes to something when women are brewing recipes to ward off attackers. I don't think it's for me - I'm a liability to myself more than anyone else when it comes to aerosolised irritants - but I appreciate the info.

Oh, unless you mean as a liquid? I might be looking that up if things get worse.

SpaceRaccoon · 10/06/2026 15:24

The riots and unrest I blame primarily on political failure.
They don't get it. The more that they try and crack down, and attempt to control social media, and double down, the worse it's going to get.

Nuthatch26 · 10/06/2026 15:25

DDs and I also have a very pointy keyring each. Fits beautifully between the fingers.
DD1 always carries a pair of those folding flat shoes in her bag when on a night out. So she can swap her heels and run. Makes me sick, but we are where we are.

Yes the empty spaces on Labour benches are very noticeable since the elections.

Military chiefs are furious, and one senior military source has broken ranks to accuse the government of “damaging our credibility and reputation” and only planning to give the MoD half of the money it needs to restore “credible deterrence”.

Yes it’s the basic job of government to ensure the perpetrator’s violence doesn’t happen and to ensure that basic safety is met so unrest doesn’t occur.

38thparallel · 10/06/2026 15:54

I agree that violent protests is not the answer and I feel very sorry for anyone caught up in it all, but as pp have pointed out, people are feeling very angry.

I had a look at a thread about the BLM ‘protests’ in UK in 2020. Absolute denial by lots of posters that they were anything but peaceful. Someone pointed out that throwing shopping trolleys at police horses was hardly peaceful to which a poster replied ‘they should be using horses at these protests’.

Upstartled · 10/06/2026 16:28

Starmer will tell ministers who back Burnham to quit

You'd think this would be the start of a full noise reshuffle but, if there is one thing this lot are particularly good at, it is cowardly sitting on the fence pretending to be loyal and just waiting things out to keep the odds ever in their favour.

I've seen similar comments, there seems to be an element of denial and selective memory with the BLM riots.
Lots of hypocrisy around atm.

Wasp spray apparently goes very far.

Thanks for the share.
That will help his popularity.
Love the comments, pointing towards Starmer's dictatorial tendencies.

What will happen to the 100+ (that we know of) Labour MPs who have called for his resignation? Will he sack them too?

By the time he gets through round one with the cabinet, he'll be an irrelevance anyway.

I haven't seen anyone say one solitary nice thing about Starmer on here for eons, have you? I think they have entirely given up.

Some are still defending him at every opportunity. They don't have anything positive to say I suppose, but doesn't stop them policing others.

Yes, I see a lot of knocking others down but I haven't seen anything akin to a warmth or confidence in him. He's just what iremains when you have engaged in character assassination of everybody else.

Nuthatch26 · 10/06/2026 17:00

This is interesting from the DT article. If those considering voting Restore vote tactically for Reform, there isn't much in it.

I think we’ll see the equivalent of the shy Tory syndrome this time.

Only it will be shy Reform. I really hope for some tactical voting as well.
