Leaving aside the disgusting murderer and his family, the complete capitulation to equality training by the police who attended has to be seen to be believed. If we were not shown the body camera evidence we would just think Henry was being aggressive to the police rather than just dying at their feet. Common sense would tell you that someone lying down and saying he was stabbed did not present a danger to the police so why the eagerness to cuff him. But it has been drummed into the police that if anyone implies there has been racism, critical thinking, humanity and common sense go out the window. They were literally following orders from above. If I were a serving police officer I would be looking to leave. Surely this two tier approach to crime cannot sit well with them. It makes them look so dumb. In this instance the cheery, “I don’t think you are mate”, or the “No, but we have to look don’t we” is so craven and embarrassing and frightening. We all pay our taxes for public service - we all deserve equality of that service.
The CEO of Iceland has said there is definitely two tier policing going on. He cites an incident where a black man was tampering with the milk in one of his stores. The sales assistant, an Asian man, asked him to stop. The black guy called the police and told them he was being racially abused and the police were there in minutes - they cuffed the assistant and took him away. It took a few hours before he was released and then the black guy was charged. But he then says that the police are not bothered or do not attend for the growing violence on their staff, or the massive amount of shoplifting. Maybe they need to say the magic word to get the police to attend. Maybe we all should. Then we may, as tax payers, get the service we pay for.
