Have you ever hated something that seems very popular with everyone else ?

Just for fun so no sarcasm or nastiness please .
My friend and I went to see a West End musical this week . I was really looking forward to it . Great reviews . Celebrity cameos . Camp and fun . Seemed right up our street .
We both hated it . We were turning to each other with puzzled looks and raised eyebrows (we've known each other forever and have very similar tastes so no words needed) .
The audience seemed off their tits to be honest . Screeching at every unsubtle innuendo . Shouting responses to the actors . It was like a really bad hen do .
We left at the interval .
My point is that everyone else seemed to be having a great time . The staff who opened the doors to allow us to leave at the interval were incredulous . I quote : "Are you not enjoying it ?!"
Well no , we weren't . We thought it was shit .
This is a show that is up for lots of awards and has had so many positive reviews .
Have you ever hated something that everyone else seemed to love ?

Mc Ds: I think there used to be a nostalgic atmosphere, where the weekend dads or aunties who really shouldn't have been trusted to babysit took you, and you thought it was GREAT because you didn't realise that plan B would have been borderline neglect 🤣

It had ferral kids and adults you had to be careful not to startle with eye contact, and you could eat off a tray in peace amongst the carnage.

but theyve become Uber eats etc kiosks rather than "cheeky dirty treats" shops now and that's killed the atmosphere.

Book of Mormon

Just didn't get it. I usually laugh at anything but this was a painful couple of hours. I actually got quite scared that so many people were laughing their heads off - like being in a different universe.

Oh yeah, hates a strong word but I don’t like David Attenborough

me either....I don't like or dislike him as a person but never watch the programs

AlternateLook · 05/06/2026 12:43

Clare Balding. I can't stand her jolly hockey sticks persona one bit.

Treetopssofee · 05/06/2026 12:46

Victoria Wood

The jokes are just snarkey with a smile

In dinner ladies it was just her setting up "thickos" so she could roll her eyes behind their backs whilst nodding and smiling along with them

I think she's just a bit of a bitch, and her stand up is just a whine fest in a high pitched voice.

I think there's a passive aggressive Victoria Woods in every office and nobody likes them in real life, so I don't get her popularity as a public figure. She's the one at work who says "YOURE WELCOME" pointedly after not giving the other person a beat to actually say "thank you".

I mind her "I adore horses and it breaks my heart to see one killed racing" bollocks

They used to be colourful and bright. Some look like a prison canteen

It was around 6 years ago when McDs first started to reopen their drivethrus in stages, for a very limited menu. The nearest McDs to us in the first stage was around 48 miles.

Someone drove a 96 miles round trip, queued up for goodness how long. Then tossed the receipt in the cemetery car park in the town.

That person must have been very sad to do this

Not quite the same but I remember when lockdown ended people were queuing to get into McDonald's. I remember my dad moaning about the queues as they were blocking entrances to other shops

Wide leg trousers, so unflattering.

again its a yes from me. I keep seeing them suggested for <cough> ladies of a certain width. On me they look like the south end of an elephant going north. I much prefer the look of my rear end in skinny jeans and a hip length or longer top.

I don't understand them, do you take them off as soon as you're in your front door with your shoes? Cause they drag on the ground?

Not if you get the right ones. They should be flowing, not like clown trousers

l think it is dependant on your formative years. I was born in the UK but because of dad’’s job was (happily) brought up in France. The French as a nation were so much more tactile and it rubbed off (forever).

Ha ha . I'm uk born as well. I just don't like anyone in my space.
I hate it in the supermarket if anyone comes up next to me whilst I'm browsing. I also dont like people showing me crap on there mobile phone as again they are to close and in my space

This!

If you HAVE the luxury of floor space, it doesn't need to be filled, it's a luxury to cross the room and just have.... Space, let the light, air and people flow. A big block in the room looks very builder grade trying to look higher end, it does not look fancy.

And if it's a smaller space an island is just bad use of the space also, if people can fit great fullt functional kitchens into boats and barges, an island just looks like poor space planning imo.

I have never seen one that was smart use of space. Obviously people who have put islands in think they're ace, but I have never seen a good un

Nope if you could see my kitchen you'd see it works really well and just makes sense.... we still have lots of leftover space as it's a huge area so it still feels very roomy.....it would be a ball ache to have to walk too far to get stuff.......it looks great, is very functional and we're happy. Plus I'd hate to be chopping facing the dark wall. We can all face each other this way. It's a proper party kitchen and wouldn't be if laid out with old fashioned worktops facing the wall.
You do you and I'll do me :)
Jeez.

AInightingale · 05/06/2026 20:54

Cordless hoovers. Unless you're prepared to spend a small fortune, I find them absolutely bloody hopeless. If the govt plans to ban the electric ones the way they've outlawed tumble dryers, I am going to buy two Henrys and stick them in the loft.

You... have read the title of this thread? Right?

If you're gonna be annoyed that people dislike what you like this might not be your safe space 😉

Tea - horrible manky dishwater (apologies to tea lovers).

Baked beans - for some reason they smell like fag ash to me. Only once have I liked them - they day my morning sickness lifted and I was very hungry.

YY to tea! I honestly have no idea what it tastes like to most people, but to me it tastes like something that shouldn't even be drunk!
