Have you ever hated something that seems very popular with everyone else ?

Just for fun so no sarcasm or nastiness please .
My friend and I went to see a West End musical this week . I was really looking forward to it . Great reviews . Celebrity cameos . Camp and fun . Seemed right up our street .
We both hated it . We were turning to each other with puzzled looks and raised eyebrows (we've known each other forever and have very similar tastes so no words needed) .
The audience seemed off their tits to be honest . Screeching at every unsubtle innuendo . Shouting responses to the actors . It was like a really bad hen do .
We left at the interval .
My point is that everyone else seemed to be having a great time . The staff who opened the doors to allow us to leave at the interval were incredulous . I quote : "Are you not enjoying it ?!"
Well no , we weren't . We thought it was shit .
This is a show that is up for lots of awards and has had so many positive reviews .
Have you ever hated something that everyone else seemed to love ?

Click Clackers. I’m not very co-ordinated and they actually scared me as a child. See also long skipping ropes.

Indigo Girls.

I'm bisexual and middle aged. Every older women who loves women are supposed to love them. They're our anthem apparently.

And whilst I do think they are extremely cool individuals, and talented in their genre, and I love all they stand for, I HATE the music.

That clanging/bashing at an acoustic guitar whilst singing along genre in general just sounds so tinny to my ears, I HATE it.

I don't just not like it, I HATE it, it's like nails down a blackboard to me. It makes me want to put my hands over my ears like an obnoxious toddler.

This apparently means I don't like sex with ladies.

That and picnics. In fact any kind of al fresco dining. Can't we just eat indoors at a proper nice clean table that's not on a footpath or under birds arseholes, and THEN go sit outside?

Hot cross buns

A bad scone had a baby with a brioche bun and we are supposed to pretend to be excited about their offspring who has to be toasted and buttered to be tolerated.

Comedy about terrible "school gate mum" tropes. I've put 3 kids through school and never met anyone whose whole life revolved around the school gates. It's 20 minutes out of people's day. Internalised mysogyny comedy. Not funny.

I will try and avoid it or back away from kisses and cuddles but then you look awkward. But I absolutely hate it.

l think it is dependant on your formative years. I was born in the UK but because of dad’’s job was (happily) brought up in France. The French as a nation were so much more tactile and it rubbed off (forever).

Never seen one do this in practice, nobody uses the island AND the OG work spaces, the OG work spaces becomes either ornamental/ unused, or cluttered, so the usable workspace is not doubled at all. The working moves to the island, and the OG work spaces become redundant (either bare or cluttered, either way not worked on)

We only use our island for food prep :)
.....as the only other chopping area space is right next to the sink, but it's not a usable area as it's usually got dishes piled up there ready to go in the dishwasher or to be washed up. The other areas of the kitchen are floor to ceiling cabinets that also incorporate the fridge and oven/micro/steam oven....so we rely on our island. It's also where we cook as it includes an induction hob
Sorry, what is OG?
I'm assuming you must frequent huge posh houses where there is already ample chopping space so their islands are effectively redundant:)
Not in our kitchen tho.....our island is the hub of the kitchen where it all happens :)

Your set up is exactly what I mean

OG means original

Kitchen designs that rely on an island for workspace do not double the workspace, they just make the place that would otherwise be the workplace redundant

Like in your design: where the workspaces would be sounds like it's been enclosed with cabinetry.

So you gain zero extra workspace compared to if you just had worktops against the wall. And then you could have a real table

Our kitchen layout works really well.....it's a massive space (DH is a builder and knocked down 2 rooms and conservatory to make it one of those huge kitchen dining living areas with a skylight and folding sliding doors). So we do have a big table as well as an island (and a huge corner sofa). We considered lots of designs before opting for the set up we have as it makes the most sense and has the wow factor. We did look at having the workspace against the walls but one wall has the sink, another wall would have had to house the hob and oven and the only other wall available would have meant a workspace area against a darker part of the kitchen facing the wall and not looking out of the window. And then what? We'd have had a vast and odd area of wasted empty wasted space in the middle of the room...(as the kitchen table is at the other end of the room). Perhaps we should have plonked our cabinets in the centre of the room? Erm no. It would've looked daft. This way makes the best use of the space and looks great as well. We have loads of storage and a sunny, sociable area to prepare food/cook. Trust me. It works really well. You have to go with what works best for each individual space. Plus I love our floor the ceiling cabinets and it means I can have a grill and oven and fridge at eye level rather than our previous layout where I had to bend all the time :)
This looks way more modern. We really love it

I think floorspace is important too, not just food prep areas.

McDs glory days are on the wane, I think. I bought a meal in Glasgow city centre recently. It was okay, but far too expensive, and the premises itself was a third world hellhole.

They used to be colourful and bright. Some look like a prison canteen

It was around 6 years ago when McDs first started to reopen their drivethrus in stages, for a very limited menu. The nearest McDs to us in the first stage was around 48 miles.

Someone drove a 96 miles round trip, queued up for goodness how long. Then tossed the receipt in the cemetery car park in the town.

That person must have been very sad to do this

This!

If you HAVE the luxury of floor space, it doesn't need to be filled, it's a luxury to cross the room and just have.... Space, let the light, air and people flow. A big block in the room looks very builder grade trying to look higher end, it does not look fancy.

And if it's a smaller space an island is just bad use of the space also, if people can fit great fullt functional kitchens into boats and barges, an island just looks like poor space planning imo.

I have never seen one that was smart use of space. Obviously people who have put islands in think they're ace, but I have never seen a good un
