Henry Nowak

Heard of him? Probably not, because there seems to be an almost complete news blackout about him. Basically the police handcuffed him and let him bleed out because they thought he may have said something racist - he didn't, it was a lie told by his murderer. Henry was 18.

Replying to the person who said it wasn't dark, and that I should watch the video ...

I have watched the video. It's a night-view camera.

I also read the judge's summary. It was late at night in December, and dark.

Are police not able to detect when a person is dying in the dark?

Fixydodah · Today 09:30

In X two of the police officers have been named. Hope they have the right people and innocent officers have not been dragged in.

Also on X a photo of the murderer wearing his dagger in a cross body sheaf at his workplace at an accountancy firm. Chilling if true. There should be no reason why they are carrying a blade. Religion isn’t a good reason.

SpaceRaccoon · Today 09:31

Every city in England was set on fire after Mark Duggan was shot by police, and he was an armed criminal. Bit of a contrast.

SpaceRaccoon · Today 09:29

To be blunt, I don't even know if I believe the police pathologist on that, given the situation. The only way we'd know for sure is if they tried by calling an ambulance immediately and applying pressure to the chest injury rather than opening it further by handcuffing his arms behind his back.

Assuming it is true though, they let an 18 year old, fatally injured boy, die alone and uncomforted, in handcuffs, when they were right there, and that alone is unforgivable.

Agree well said.

Someone should urgently make the police aware of the existence of torches, if so.

Agree, it's so pathetic that we allow certain communities to disregard our laws. So weak and cowardly.

It was not a night view camera.

The police had torches.

Stop chatting wham.

And the boy who had been fatally stabbed was slumped against a wall, propped up by the murderer's father, and then immediately slumped to the ground when the father let go of him, telling the police the boy had a mouthful of blood.
The boy then told the police himself he had been stabbed.

"The dark" had nothing to do with it.

Why are you so determined to underplay a tragic senseless killing?

Oh dear, the apologists are embarrassing themselves again. It's in crime. It's nowhere near the front page; where it should be. For obvious reasons. And you know (though wouldn't admit it to yourself due to cognitive bias, cognitive dissonance etc) that had this case been in reverse, it'd be front and centre.

Oh don't talk drivel - if anyone here is guilty of 'cognitive bias, cognitive dissonance etc.' it's you.
Quick question for you - how many stabbing victims in the UK over the last 12 months other than Henry Nowak can you name?

Clearly awareness of this particular horrible case is far higher than for most murders in the UK.
And to confirm I'm utterly appalled by Henry Nowak's death and the disgraceful behaviour of the police - I hope those involved on the police side will be bought to justice.

Henry will be remembered in the public mind far more than the vast majority of young UK knife crime victims.

@rolloverbeethoven I need to work but I have a feeling this thread will fill up quickly. Please do a Henry Novak thread Part 2, when it does. We need to keep daylight on this.

There is another thread already running.

I think that"s because the police have acted completely undefensibly and callously.

The other case where I remember the names of victims is the Nottingham case, because the system completely failed to pick up on Valdo Caldocane.

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcatsso look at the statistics for who is committing the crimes

I would imagine it’s rare for stab victims to be handcuffed and arrested as they die, even in cases where they had done something criminal. That’s what makes this case so awful.

GingerBeverage · Today 09:40

I’m so glad his family are speaking out now. His mum’s face just brings tears to my eyes every time.
The photos they’ve released of him as a child also bring it home. They were clearly so proud of him.

How many were handcuffed, arrested for racism as they died and were disbelieved when pleading due to being what ended with being fatally stabbed with ‘I don’t think so mate’.

Wheresthebeach · Today 09:45

I hope the family sue the police for pain and suffering. Not calling an ambulance is inexcusable.

I don’t see how you can handcuff a stabbed victim and not be aware of the wounds. Police are highly trained and must be held accountable.

bunsnroses1 · Today 09:47

JaneFondue · Today 08:51

Ok. As I said, I look forward to the rapid decrease in knife crime when kirpans are banned.
Digwa had a vast collection of weapons and would have carried one, Sikh or not.

They should be banned. It's about the equal application of law to all- there should be no exemptions. It should be illegal for anyone in the UK to carry a knife.
So sick of identity politics in this country. We are all equal, no group should have 'special rights'.

Wishing14 · Today 09:49

When the information started to come out in the trial it was NOT quickly picked up by mainstream news. It was pushed by commentators and growing public awareness and subsequent outrage.

TheshadesofPemberley · Today 09:51

No doubt will get the usual
lessons will be learnt
