Henry Nowak - just watched the video for the first time

I don’t understand how the officers could not tell he had been stabbed. He repeatedly says he can’t breathe and when he says he has been stabbed, they say, ‘I don’t think so mate.’ When he says it again they ask where and he says his face, they then roll him over so they can look at his face, and the video ends with the officer saying the handcuffed victim was likely going to be sick.

i completely understand the officers went there having been told a lie and you see the perpetrator on the video retelling the lie and claiming he’d been a victim of a racist assault, i just can’t understand how the officers didn’t recognise the guy on the floor was dying.

This is so on my mind. I've not dared watched the video yet, I've heard the audio a few times, but I don't understand how they didn't take even a few seconds to check his body. The scene of crime sounds calm so it wasn't like the police officers were panicking about getting it under control either. It sounds like a female officer was the one who came over to check him?
Poor Henry and his poor family, it's such a tragedy. The lad who killed him is evil.

Weldove · Yesterday 07:12

Poor poor boy. I can’t see how his family will ever get over this.

whattheysay · Yesterday 07:15

I have only just heard about what happened to Henry today. It is just horrific and so heartbreaking.
I can’t imagine what his family are going through having to live with the knowledge of how he died.
I am mixed race and even I think there was a racial element to how the police officers treated him, because he was a young white male. I hope they don’t sleep well at night

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · Yesterday 07:22

I listened to his dad talking on the steps yesterday. He said the female police officer had resigned and this hadn’t helped with the further investigation. I don’t know how that’s allowed quite honestly. If you have failed to do your job properly you should still be held accountable if someone has died, you shouldn’t be able to resign yourself away from the responsibility.

It is racism.

Henrys crime was being white. So he was automatically assumed to be guilty, because working class white = bad.

He was handcuffed on the floor while bleeding and begging for help, while his murderer wasn't even handcuffed at any point, even on his way to the police station.

I am not white, and this video has disgusted me. I also see that the government and police are going to lead us all in to a blood bath if they do not get a grip on this two tier treatment.

The government that will get in eventually if they don't, will make Reform look as left as Jeremy Corbyn.

Henry Nowak’s father was hard to watch, such a dignified speech he made. The whole case is horrifying. Perhaps someone with more legal understanding can explain why the brother of the murderer hasn’t been charged with perverting the course of justice after telling the police Henry Nowak was the aggressor?

You are right. I also didn’t know Sikhs were allowed to carry knives. What has gone wrong with the UK.

Twisterlollies · Yesterday 08:00

Nobody should be allowed to carry a blade, I don’t care what religion they are, it’s really not everyone else’s problem.

I haven’t watched the video as I can’t bear to.

He was so young, it’s all so tragic. They may not have been able to save his life but at the very least they could’ve offered compassion and dignity in his final moments which would’ve been something.

There has never been a problem with it before. It's one of the main symbols of their religion.

purpleme12 · Yesterday 08:03

I'm really shocked that it's allowed to carry a kirpan!

I don't know if there's any incidents before this where it's been used to injure someone but obviously this is one too many

Why should this be allowed

The sad thing is. With the police force in the state it is in today I can see the exact same story playing out if a woman were punched in the head by a man in a dress. The t word would be uttered and the dying woman would be handcuffed. (See Gwent Police - and other police forces - blatantly disregarding the Supreme Court ruling).

Sadly I agree with this. It’s shocking.

Let's not try and drag trans issues into this horrific murder. There are enough social issues concerned as it is.

OrlandointheWilderness · Yesterday 08:07

@PropertyD the reason you didn’t know that Sikhs were allowed to carry knives is because I don’t think there has ever been an attack like this before. The Sikh religion is based on everyone being completely equal and is generally very peaceful. I don’t think that this attack was because he was carrying a knife due to religion - I think it is because he was a nutcase who would have carried a knife anyway.
I agree - I think this is definitely a case of the police assuming he was guilty. We are so keen to avoid offence that the police will prioritise that, in this case at the cost of someone’s life.

Shedmistress · Yesterday 08:13

People have been trying to raise the issue of the Two Tier Policing for years and now it is written into the law so good luck trying to reverse that.

Well there is a big problem now.

One section of society should not be allowed to walk the streets of the UK with a deadly weapon, when it is illegal for everyone else. Not now one has been used to murder.

It is a symbol, there should be no problem with them carrying plastic replicas.

How can I make this about trans people I wonder 🧐

CremeEggsForBreakfast · Yesterday 08:22

The kirpan is irrelevant. Digwa told officers he'd used his kirpan in panic but that was another lie. He was also carrying a much larger knife which is what he attacked Henry with.

Plenty of people walk around with weapons that they use as tools. Imagine we banned every scout and camper from having a Swiss army knife.

One murder isnt a "big problem". We arent even sure he was carrying it for religious reasons.

They are shameless.

Ihateboris · Yesterday 08:25

This video has shaken me to the core. I'm so FUCKING angry at the police, heartbroken for the family and frustrated that so many people of defending the actions of those police officers. They should hang their heads in shame. I wonder if Starmer will take the knee this afternoon?

Shedmistress · Yesterday 08:26

Glowingup · Yesterday 08:17

Because we've seen this play out for a decade making Trans the Sacred Cow to the detriment of women, with women being treated as second class citizens by the police when they can see with their own eyes the abuse and threats and they just stand there, do nothing apart from dance the macarena...with the abusers.

And Politicians standing in front of Decapitate TERFs signs.

Its all the same thing. That's the point.
