My husband has a milestone birthday coming up and he’s quite difficult to buy for, so looking for some inspiration, please. I’m taking him away to celebrate, but did also want to get him some gifts.

I was given a Leatherman tool as a wedding present. They are currently doing engraved versions. They are such a nice piece of kit, and I use mine regularly.

You said he likes coffee OP, do you live near a 200 degrees coffee shop? They do great courses you can buy as a gift for coffee enthusiasts. I did the beginner barista one and throughly enjoyed it. They do more advanced ones for people who already know the basics.

Does he have a decent coffee machine? Sage do great ones that are pretty special.

Long wheel base handover. He’s now, at 60, rebuilding it for the second time.

I sent DH on an Axe Making weekend for his 50th.

He loves that axe 🪓😁

Am I the only one who gets really intrusive thoughts around axes? 😬

Motorbike, dog, me - in that order 😂

Gifts that have gone down well include:

Large Lego sets
Set list from a Slipknot concert signed by the whole band (genuinely thought he'd cry at one point)
A signed copy of John McGuinness' autobiography
A new Xbox
A £200 watch he'd never buy himself
A Rattler cider Christmas jumper
A paint tin sized tin of peanut butter
A screaming goat toy

How about alcohol? A trip to a brewery he likes or a distillery? A special bottle of rum or gin?

We went axe throwing for our wedding anniversary a few years ago 😂

I’m in Ireland so not near 200 Degrees coffee but have looked at barista courses before and don’t think it’d be his thing. He’s very much a (frequent!) double espresso drinker and has a really fancy machine with all the kit (and I’ve bought him a new fancy ceramic grinder). Plus he had loads of different coffees from around the world. We’re at the stage where friends and family now bring him back beans from their travels.

Also, please stop saying dogs because he’ll go mad if I bring another one into the house because of this thread 😂
We already have several and I’m always this close 🤏 to adding another.

DH likes a particular band so I looked into the artist who designed some of their album covers and bought a print of one of said covers.

I'm also on the What;s for dinner thread and for a moment mixed them up and though that was your answer @ANiceCuppaTeaandBiscuit

Ha! Though it’s been the source of dinner quite a bit recently ☺️

The new engraved ones are a really nice touch as a gift. They look expensive, but they are so well-made. They are a great gift for anyone.

chillyputsomesockson · 28/05/2026 20:09

I’m also a black espresso drinker with all the fancy kit, I enjoy making the milky versions for friends when they visit, and the courses (if you pick the right one) tend to lean towards us coffee geeks as you also learn about coffee, how where its grown , altitude and soils, how its dried, how long its roasted for, how fine the grind is etc all impact the taste… honestly it’s heaven for a coffee geek! 😆😆

DH buys himself whatever he wants/needs. I have to tell him to stop buying himself stuff in the run up to his birthday!
He recently had a big birthday. I had to get him to tell me, specifically, what to buy otherwise it would be wrong. So he got a pair of his favourite leather boots, a nice piece of art, and a few bottles of his favourite booze. The kids helped choose cake, complete with a many candles as I could fit on top 😂
For a previous big birthday I got him a copy of Beano comic printed the week he was born (easy to find on eBay).
