If you have a 50ish year old man in your life, what’s his favourite material possession?

My husband has a milestone birthday coming up and he’s quite difficult to buy for, so looking for some inspiration, please. I’m taking him away to celebrate, but did also want to get him some gifts.

His camera! His favourite hobby is photography 😊.

Slippers. 🤣

Something very niche and sports/hobby related, so not something I would ever look to buy for him, as I would have no idea.
He does like watches but, sadly for me, only the high end ones that are way out of my price range - plus personal taste is so important anyway.
I think a holiday, as you're doing sounds perfect - could you just get something fun/small that relates to the destination?

I possess a 54 year old man. Just asked him and he said a watch (he is very into watches and has many). I did get him one for his 50th birthday

His robot lawnmower. He loves the idea that it’s up and mowing the lawn at daybreak, whereas I have extremely mixed feelings about what this makes us.

By the time my DH was 50, he basically had everything he needed and all his interests seemed to involve incredibly niche items that cost a billion pounds each. That was the point I gave up buying him things and since then every birthday has been some sort of trip away - a really nice overnighter with fabulous dinner for a normal birthday, something more lavish for a big birthday.

Probably his computer/ home server set up, he has a very fancy one which is sort of a good source of presents as it gives him a lot of pleasure and there's endless things to buy to improve it, but also bad as I don't have a clue and he needs to tell me exactly what he wants down to the serial number of the part, no chance of surprising him whatsoever there!

He does also love our pets but again not great fodder for surprise gifts. Everything else that's a 'possession' (clothes, watches/jewellery, gadgets, kitchen stuff, books, art) he could either take or leave or would end up being more for the house/family than for him personally. I have had some success with presents based on favourite pictures, either personal ones of the family dog that have sentimental value or favourite art works or meaningful landscapes/cityscapes or stills from favourite films printed and either framed or made into posters or put onto other items like a keychain or mug - he does treasure these even if they're not materially very valuable, the sentimental sloppy fool that he is...

They’re all quite individual!!! You’re going to have to figure out what your DH is into 😂
