My husband has a milestone birthday coming up and he’s quite difficult to buy for, so looking for some inspiration, please. I’m taking him away to celebrate, but did also want to get him some gifts.

I'm also on the What;s for dinner thread and for a moment mixed them up and though that was your answer @ANiceCuppaTeaandBiscuit

Interesting thread as I have a nearly (ish) 50 yr old white man so suppose I had better start putting some thought into what he might like for his own milestone birthday. Tech and cycle related stuff is generally quite up there for him.

What does being white have to do with it? Shit- does this mean I’ll have to change my own search criteria? 😂

Thanks all for the suggestions. My husband is very lovely but not big on hobbies, not really into sports, and doesn’t like gaming or watches.

He likes coffee and has a really good setup so I’ve bought him a new grinder, and some t-shirts linked to a tv show he likes. Would just love to be able to present him with someone amazing that he never knew he always wanted.

He likes tech but is pretty generous to himself in that regard. Same with cameras- he has a new Nikon and all of the bags/lenses/filters.

I always think he’s lucky with me- I have a list of about 100 things I’d love to own at any one time, plus loads of hobbies. Makes Christmas and birthday buying for me a breeze. He’s a lucky man.

Watches are a good shout, but you say that you’re taking him away already and want to get “some” gifts so I’m guessing you may want some more moderate options.

One thing we got my dad when he was in his 50s, and that he absolutely loves and uses constantly to this day is a nice leather duffel bag. The one we got him was from Ralph Lauren so was a bit pricy but it has lasted, still looks new, and he says it’s one of his favourite gifts he’s ever gotten. We also had them stamp his initials into the leather.

Electric guitars.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/05/2026 18:01

Guitars. Especially the cheap shit ones bought for him by his grandparents - the best present I got him was chucking good money after bad paying for a luthier to try to make them slightly more like guitars than lumps of wood with wires attached.

Just asked - he said his car, but mostly for the freedom that brings, his cashmere jumper that so warm and snuggly, and the good kitchen knife.

I bought my partner a two day knife making workshop for his last big birthday. He loved the whole thing, and made a really cool knife that he loves. A male friend of a similar age recently got the same gift and loved it too.

BauhausOfEliott · 28/05/2026 18:12

His iPad, his Kindle and his watch. It's not an expensive watch at all, but he loves it.

KookyMoose · 28/05/2026 18:13

Definitely the dog.

Do you have a garden? I got a 2 seater wooden bench with a song lyric from his favourite band carved in - (it's a Lutyens bench, v classy!)

LyndaSnellsSniff · 28/05/2026 18:24

A Kamado Joe BBQ. It was his 50th birthday present to himself (well, partially funded by his mum) and it really is excellent. Plus, there's all manner of accessories to be bought so Christmas and birthdays are sorted for a few years!

DilemmaDelilah · 28/05/2026 18:26

Records and a record deck. Also his smart watch.
