Are you enjoying this heatwave?

How is everybody doing in this lovely, but very hot, weather? I usually like hot, sunny weather, but Monday absolutely washed me out and I did nothing all day! Yesterday was slightly cooler but still hot, and I am ashamed to say I chickened out of a dental appointment for today! Could not bear the thought of driving into town, sit in that hot, stuffy room for half an hour!! On the plus side, my dog is going for a bath and groom today so at least she will feel cooler after that!

Yes, I really enjoy it, I like the light and brightness. I am also fortunate that I don't get to sticky and sweaty, I dont burn and it makes me happy. I stay out of the sun at the hottest times, wear a hat and drink loads. I wish this was it for the next few months, but as its not I have to enjoy it while it's here. My DH and DC however will be pleased when it eases off over next few days.

Nitgel · 27/05/2026 08:30

No I got heat exhaustion for the first time in my life and was sick and ill. Didn't help that I had to commute across london with it either.

Devastated999 · 27/05/2026 08:35

I wish that I did enjoy it, but it makes me so uncomfortable and gives me headaches, migraines and currently hayfever. Every year the low points for me are heatwaves. I spend a fortune on cooling gagets, fans, air con. But i am always a sweaty, beetroot faced frizzy mess.

GameOfJones · 27/05/2026 08:35

In general, I'm enjoying it although I'd prefer it to be a bit cooler. It has been 33c for the last few days which has meant we've stayed inside in the hottest part of the day and it's been hard to sleep even on top of the covers with a fan on. Our buildings just aren't designed for this sort of heat.

But it's been lovely to spend lots of time in the garden, watering the plants early in the morning and getting the washing hung out feels productive. I've got a bit of colour in my usually milk white skin!

Ideally I'd love it to be low 20s instead of low 30s so I didn't feel so lethargic and could go on a long walk without melting .... and didn't need to worry so much about DDs in the sun but it doesn't last long and winter was so wet and miserable it's nice to see the sunshine.

WellFineThen · 27/05/2026 08:37

Yes. The winter gave me SAD and it was unbearable. I wasn't actually sure how to deal with it since I couldn't go for a walk, due to the wet, and other outdoor pursuits weren't feasible.

I'm hot but at least I don't feel, you know.....

Clearinguptheclutter · 27/05/2026 08:39

We’ve had important garden jobs to do and we’ve mostly hated it tbh, though enjoyed sitting in the garden with a beer around 9pm!

i’d be fine with it in the shade if I could just relax. Or if I was next to a pool in Spain!

we’re lucky in that half of the house remains quite cool. Though some rooms are stifling

Wonderknicks · 27/05/2026 08:40

Love it, I love the long light evenings. If it could just be a bit cooler over night, please & thank you :D

Meridas · 27/05/2026 08:41

Still waiting for it to arrive!

HelloVeritas · 27/05/2026 08:42

I love it, live about 5 min walk from beach in the South East. Lovely sea breeze and I can plonk myself in the sea whenever I want.

garlictwist · 27/05/2026 08:43

I love it. I feel so motivated and active when it's hot. It's gone away again and is back to normal today where I am and I just feel bleurgh and like I can't be bothered.

Perrygreen · 27/05/2026 08:44

It's fine. I've just realised I have to water my seedlings.

I struggle with bad weather and the cold, I'm only happy for about 3 months of the year.

OliveYouVeryMuch · 27/05/2026 08:45

No because I'm stuck at home and feeling sleepy. My AC is noisy and makes my eyes dry and I can't get a good night sleep. I know how to cope in the day time but at night there is no reprise. Beaches and parks in the UK are horribly busy and noisy and the transport to get there and back is crowded and stuffy so it's the lack of resources, if I have my own beach and pool I wouldn't care if this heat lasted 3 months.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 27/05/2026 08:46

Absolutely love it.

Nottopanic · 27/05/2026 08:46

Do you not have to work like normal?
It is fine inside but very hot outside.

basoon · 27/05/2026 08:48

I really love it. I sit in the nice cool garden for hours in the evening.

EffortlesslyDedicated · 27/05/2026 08:48

No, it restricts massively what you can do in the middle part of the day, I get very hot and sticky doing anything active and it generally makes me feel sluggish. Fortunately I work in an air-conditioned office. I do like the long hours of daylight and sitting out till it gets dark, but would prefer temps in the low 20s.

OliveYouVeryMuch · 27/05/2026 08:48

Yeah see it's totally unfair to compare a healthy fit person with a private huge garden, wardrobe full of natural fibres and maybe even their own swimming pool or living 5 mins walk to a lovely beach with someone stuck in a london highrise. Of course they will love the weather 😂😂😂 it's like how covid lockdown was experienced by different classes of people..

Tillow4ever · 27/05/2026 08:49

I arrived down south on Monday to camp for the week. It took me & my son hours to put the tent up because it was so hot the sweat was running into my eyes so I had to keep taking breaks to cool down. The days have been unbearable as there’s no shade at our pitch (no choice on that) but the nights have been lovely and cool. Out tent went from 47.4°C at one point to 12.7° at night lol.

So not enjoying it, but happy about the sun. About 10 degrees cooler and it would be perfect!

IsthataNo · 27/05/2026 08:50

No it's too hot so we have not been going out at all.
I wanted to go out for a pub dinner but that's also too hot for my DC

IDontDrinkTea · 27/05/2026 08:52

Im loving the sun ☀️ me and the kids have spent the half term in the garden playing with water. It’s been a much more peaceful half term than I expected so far, especially as I’m quite heavily pregnant with number 3.

MyThreeWords · 27/05/2026 08:54

I've been loving it. But I'm lucky to live in a house with plenty of ventilation possibilities and an airy garden. Also, in walking distance of riverside strolls.

I think I would hate it if I lived somewhere noisy and urban in a hot house with masses of street noise when I opened the window, and no private space to be outside in.

mumumental · 27/05/2026 08:54

Less than I had anticipated. It’s quite a damp heat.

Favouritefruits · 27/05/2026 08:57

I really enjoy the beautiful hot weather, I’m in the north though so think it’s a bit cooler than down south. I’m annoyed there’s a breeze today so not quite as hot.

Nope, I’m a winter person but it is what it is!
