Are you enjoying this heatwave?

How is everybody doing in this lovely, but very hot, weather? I usually like hot, sunny weather, but Monday absolutely washed me out and I did nothing all day! Yesterday was slightly cooler but still hot, and I am ashamed to say I chickened out of a dental appointment for today! Could not bear the thought of driving into town, sit in that hot, stuffy room for half an hour!! On the plus side, my dog is going for a bath and groom today so at least she will feel cooler after that!

Loving it!

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 27/05/2026 09:07

I prefer mid 20s temp. This is too hot and definitely do nothing weather. We have a pool though so cooling down is easy. In general I prefer autumn, winter and spring! I do like the long evenings though.

aspidernamedfluffy · 27/05/2026 09:09

Love it when I'm not at work. Being on a factory floor with no aircon resulted in temperatures hitting 29 by the time the shift finished at 2pm. Felt sorry for the afternoon shift.

drivinmecrazy · 27/05/2026 09:09

I love it. But I’m used to spending the summer months in Spain so have had it ingrained into me how to cope.
out side activities done and dusted by 11.
inside or in the shade in the afternoon.
back outside to enjoy the long evenings at about 4.
Althoigh as I’ve got older, and due to cancer medication, I’m far less tolerant.
Five minutes in the sun and I’m sweating and breaking out in itchy skin.
Usually spend six weeks in Spain and people are always amazed that I come home with only the slightest tan, because I sit in shade 90% of the time.

Stoicandhappy · 27/05/2026 09:10

I am loving every second of it, going out for nice walks and enjoying the sunshine on my skin.

bananaapplepears · 27/05/2026 09:10

I'm not loving it. I've got this week off work. I'm an outdoorsy person so can't do any of that this week. Too hot for dog walks, running etc. I'm all sticky with suncream, can't sleep, don't feel like cooking etc. Its awful. Dreaming of cold crisp days.

frozendaisy · 27/05/2026 09:10

If I have nothing pressing to do it’s great
But many have to work in this heat especially emergency services dealing with dumb fucks who get drunk in the blazing sunshine and/ir jump into bodies of water utterly unprepared.

So yes it’s nice with the luxury of leisure time but it feels disingenuous to crow about it.

LetsMakeThisMomentLast · 27/05/2026 09:11

In NI we are having some lovely hot weather for a change, but it probably wouldn’t count as a heatwave. Not sure what the criteria are! I am enjoying it. But I’m at home caring for my son, so not sure how I’d be doing in an office etc.

Yuja · 27/05/2026 09:12

I adore it. 98% of the year I am cold and miserable so it’s nice for a few days not to brace every time o step out the house. I’m made for heat

TokyoSushi · 27/05/2026 09:13

I don't love personally being so hot, but I do love how light and bright it is and how I can get washing dry on the line in about an hour!

TheJoySpreader · 27/05/2026 09:15

No, horrible don’t enjoy work in the heat

mondaytosunday · 27/05/2026 09:15

Nope. My sweet spot is 20ish, so reaching 35 here in London was not pleasant. Unfortunately my DD has decided to go take a break from work/study to go to the beach today. She’s up in Durham. Yesterday it was 26, tomorrow it will be 25, today? 16… already bought her train ticket and too mean to waste it.

Lottapianos · 27/05/2026 09:18

I love sunshine and warmth but it's been too bloody hot! 23 degrees is perfect for me - 30+ degrees is absolute murder

Monday was hell trying to stay cool at home. Yesterday I was at work in an air conditioned building and I felt like a completely different person!

Berlinlover · 27/05/2026 09:26

I’m hating every minute of it.

user1469565563 · 27/05/2026 09:33

Love it! My seedlings have finally taken off, and its very exciting to see everything growing.

Ilaos · 27/05/2026 09:33

I'm in London and it's been OK. I went for a day trip to the seaside on Monday with my dcs and it didn't feel too hot on the beach with the sea breeze. Yesterday I was walking around London and it often felt quite cool due to deliberately walking on the shady side of the street. Lots of benches in shady spots and public spaces like libraries and galleries where it's cool. We had a tube journey which ran very slow due to signals failing in the heat, which was a drag but not stressful as we had seats and were on our way home so didn't need to be somewhere on time. We have events and tickets booked all week so no choice to stay home, but I don't think it's healthy to keep dcs cooped up anyway.

Elbowpatch · 27/05/2026 09:39

Perfect temperature for me. I wouldn’t call it hot, but that’s relative I suppose.

simpsonthecat · 27/05/2026 09:54

Love it, wish it would go on till end October!

A couple of degrees less would be preferable but I can cope.

However, I take the right precautions. Lots of fluids. I don't burn, if I sit outside it's in the shade. Yesterday I sat under trees, reading a good book and hearing birds tweeting and it was glorious.
Wonderful outdoor food, barbecues, salads etc sat outside, heaven.

During the day I close all the curtains in our bedroom (it has five windows so heats up!) and have a fan on for sleeping so all good overnight.

EveryDayisFriday · 27/05/2026 14:49

I under estimated the sun in Scotland this weekend and am still pink and peeling from sitting out in 17 degree heat but I really do love sun and heat, we don't go abroad at the moment so any warm day is like being on holiday. I wfh so I can cool down, go barefoot, wear flimsy clothing all day. When I was in an unconditioned office on the top floor wearing formal wear, it was a different scenario.

Monday was a bit too hot for me but I will absolutely not complain as it's been cold and wet since Sept last year. It'll be shitty again before we know it.

I'm busy washing all fabrics in the house whilst it's nice, curtains and cushion covers that haven't been washed in a couple of years [grim].

Bluebellsandwishingwells · 27/05/2026 14:55

No! Multiple health issues and can’t go out if it’s over 24 degrees. Awful! I’m dreaming of Xmas 🎅🏻 👍

ticklyfeet · 27/05/2026 16:37

mumumental · 27/05/2026 08:54

Less than I had anticipated. It’s quite a damp heat.

Yes, it's the humidity that becomes too much for me.

goldenhunter · 27/05/2026 17:09

This is the first heatwave I’ve ever enjoyed and suspect it’s because I’ve tapered down my SSRIs and also lost a lot of weight recently. I’m enjoying the long days and ability to spend more time in the garden. It’s also nice having the back doors open all day and the kids being a bit more “free range” / less under my feet!

ButlerianJihadNow · 27/05/2026 17:15

No, it is making me massively freak out over climate change

Fontet · 27/05/2026 17:17

Absolutely dread the summer every year because of health reasons….also autistic….nightmare between one thing and another. Really looking forward to the clocks going back etc…..already!

thinkingaboutipswich · 27/05/2026 17:20

No I have hated it. I’ve had some time off work and haven’t been able to face doing the jobs I had planned like planting stuff in the garden. Heat gives me an upset stomach and I’ve spent too much time on MN. I can’t wait for cooler weather and some rain!
