What are you doing in this heat?

I went to the beach first thing for a swim, then took the dog for a walk. I then went round to a friend's for coffee.

It's now far too hot for me to be outside so I'm lying on the sofa watching Erin Brokavitch. DH is due home in a couple of hours, and hopefully it will be cooler then. I might go down to the beach for another swim, and maybe we'll have a BBQ for dinner.

It's too hot to do much this afternoon. What are you all doing?

3 loads of washing done, a walk this morning, every one happy under the umbrellas in the garden... Then 3 year old got all bothered in the garden about a fly and DH got fed up with that... So 3 year old and I have been inside for a couple of hours playing and reading. I've got a pounding headache but keep reminding myself 3 year old is only little and can't help getting worked up in the heat.

Sitting in the garden drinking a beer, I love the hear and would usually be abroad this time of year. Glad to have this week off work!

IndigoBluey · 25/05/2026 15:24

Quick gym class, sprucing up the garden, bought a couple of plants to potter with later. Enjoying an iced coffee with my book in the garden and maybe a beer later

JBJ · 25/05/2026 15:26

Took the dog for an early walk and refreshed his paddling pool. Washed all the bedding, duvets, throws, and the living room curtains. All dry really quickly on the line. Cleaned the inside of the downstairs windows, hoovered through and now sat watching masterchef with the fan on!

BornAgainLuddite · 25/05/2026 15:26

Baking earlier, batch cooking later, then doing some exercise. Hiding from the heat for now.

SeeYouThroughACameraFlash · 25/05/2026 15:26

We picked up our friends dog early and then took her and our dogs out, Then I went for a run while it was still cool ish.

I’ve spent the rest of the day on mumsnet, reading a book and listening to music with the air con on. Our friends lovely calm dog is staying here for the rest of the week and she is cuddled up next to me with the air con on. My own dogs are in and out playing in their dog pool, acting like complete over excited idiots.

We are having a takeaway for dinner and we’ll take the dogs out on another walk, but not til maybe 9pm when it’s much cooler.

TheDogsMother · 25/05/2026 15:27

It’s 30 degrees where we live in SE but our nearest coast about half an hour away is 25 degrees with a lovely breeze. We picked up a Sainsbury’s meal deal and are picnicking in the sun.

JacknDiane · 25/05/2026 15:29

Im working in a shop with no air conditioning.

Familywhen · 25/05/2026 15:31

Daughter and family recovering from vicious stomach virus so have done all her washing, drying…but not ironing! Unfortunately I had granddaughter for sleepover on Saturday night and she started vomiting in my bed ,so am worrying about my fate ie stomach virus 🤦‍♀️😩Obviously didn’t know beforehand that they were all going to go down with this 🤮
Walked dog in local woods this morning and now lying on sofa with fan on .

jackspratswife01 · 25/05/2026 15:34

Took dog to the beach for a swim, cooked brunch, house clean now chilling with V&T while on the mnet, love the sun

Jellycatspyjamas · 25/05/2026 15:37

I did a like of laundry this morning all dry and bedding ready to go back on the beds. Have spent the day watching the teens play with the dog in the paddling pool while reading. DS has gone for a nap and I’m inside now still reading. DH will be home from work soon and we’ve planned a bbq for dinner. It’s been a lovely, lazy day for me, not too hot and half the house is north facing and nice and cool.

basingstokebluesfortwos · 25/05/2026 15:41

Had a lay in until 9am for a shower and me and dh went to my mum’s for a couple of hrs to see the family. Went to the “big” Tesco to take advantage of the 25% off all clothing. Came home had lunch and hung some more washing out and now I’m about to go lay on my bed with the air con on completely naked and watch some films 🍿

cheezncrackers · 25/05/2026 15:43

Very little! I went for a run at 7.30am and stuck to the shade, had a nice cool shower when I got back, popped to the supermarket for a few bits and since then I've been at home. Blinds/curtains are all closed on sunny side of house, fans are on and we're just waiting it out!

rc22 · 25/05/2026 15:46

Constantly had the washer on to take advantage of being able to get everything dry. Now in the garden messing around on my phone and reading a book.

CocksBolingey · 25/05/2026 15:49

My husband has just cooked me a beautiful salmon fillet on the BBQ which I have just enjoyed with some salad in my beautiful garden under the parasol whilst listening to blackbirds singing their little hearts out. Life is good!

user5649382 · 25/05/2026 15:49

Took the dog for a walk at 6 before it got too hot. Walked to the gym, had a session with my PT, walked home via the greengrocer and bakery. We're having friends for dinner tonight, so roasted two chickens to have cold later, made brownies and DH made homemade strawberry ice cream, so all we have left to do later are salads, put out baguettes and cheese and butter, and chill some rosé.

Showered and have now retreated to the air conditioned part of the house, having convinced the fairly dim dog to move out of the sun and into the cool. DH is reading, I'm wasting time on the internet and feeling very envious of those of you living near the coast, but feeling very smug about having insisted on ducted a/c when we renovated our house.

Elbowpatch · 25/05/2026 15:49

Enjoying it. My perfect temperature.

I’ve done a bit of gardening. Buried the scant remains of a pigeon that a neighbour’s cat had eaten in the middle of the lawn.

Now doing a roast on the bbq.

Happyjoe · 25/05/2026 15:51

Just about to hang up 3rd amount of washing, having already stripped the beds and got the sheets dry. Wish I'd done my pillows.

Used to love the heat. Now am older I struggle. Love it when it's about 22-23oC then it's too much. Enjoy those who love it.

AmethystDeceiver · 25/05/2026 15:54

I've been a blissful sloth most of today ☺️ lying in the shady bit of the garden reading, scrolling, listening to the birds while DS and his friends played cards next to me. Grazing, cold drinks, more grazing... Then a 5 minute walk to the waterfall where DS and I swam for about 90 minutes while DH (who hates cold water) watched. Then back home, rinse and repeat.

Sitting in the waterfall with the sun all dappled and the water flowing over me on a hot day is bliss. Walking back DS said how lucky we are to live in Wales even if it rains most of the time, because sometimes we get days like this 😍

AmethystDeceiver · 25/05/2026 15:55

Sorry for those at work today. My eldest lives in a city and works in a kitchen, it's not easy

Terriblytwee · 25/05/2026 15:56

Watching all the absolute arseholes dragging their poor dogs around the town and up and down the prom. Absolute dicks.

Blundl · 25/05/2026 15:57

Washed stuff like pillows and duvets, sat in garden in shade a bit, DH is sorting out his bike shed. Watching a bit of telly in between.

Taytocrisps · 25/05/2026 15:58

It's too hot to be outside (27 degrees), so I'm staying indoors as much as possible. I just popped out to hang out some washing. Keeping the cats inside too, because one of them suffers from respiratory issues if it gets too hot.

DD has her last exam today and is heading to the beach afterwards. I already warned her about sun cream but I'm going about to message her now and warn about the dangers of drowning. I've just heard that a young girl drowned in Dublin yesterday. DD is driving, so she won't be drinking. But her friends might be. There are almost always news reports of drownings during a heatwave.

DollopOfFun · 25/05/2026 15:58

Had a lie in this morning, then went to Lidl, which sounds like bank holiday madness but was actually great cos it was a) quiet and b) cold.

Now stretched out in the garden under a massive umbrella, with a huge aperol spritz. Lovely

TomatoSandwiches · 25/05/2026 16:00

Today I will mostly be melting.
