Where are you based?

It's incredibly (and unseasonably) warm in some parts of the country. Record breaking in London.

Thankfully we're away this week - cooler part of SE coast - but if at home in London I'd be a wreck.

(And cursing our terrace as there is no paddling pool / BBQ space to "enjoy" the weather)

People aren't complaining about some nice weather. People are complaining about disgustingly hot temperatures that our homes and general infrastructure aren't geared to cope with.

And yet the same people ‘love the rain’ and say there’s no such thing as the wrong weather just wrong clothes etc

Growlybear83 · 26/05/2026 09:29

@Crunchymum How can weather be ‘disgustingly hot’? 🤣🤣. Yes, we all know that it’s very much hotter than it would usually be in May, but temperatures this high aren’t exactly unheard of in parts of the UK during the summer. Personally I can’t think of anything much worse than sitting on a crowded beach with thousands of other people but Ive spent most of the weekend digging and doing general clearing up in the garden and it’s been gorgeous. The only thing that Ive not done due to the heat is the ironing, and Ive now got two large bags that will have to wait until late tonight when it’s a bit cooler.

10c above the average for this time of year is disgustingly hot. As is 34c at any time during summer! We don't build our homes to keep cool.

Our holiday pre-dated the forecast but luckily the local beaches have been relatively quiet (unlike all the main beaches which yes I agree were horrendous and I'd rather have sat in my overheated London house than be on Bournemouth / Brighton beach yesterday)

Growlybear83 · 26/05/2026 09:47

I agree that 34 degrees is very very hot for this time of year, but I don’t understand how weather can be ‘disgusting’ 🤣🤣🤣. We get temperatures in excess of 30 degrees most summers, and have done for as long as I can remember, - it’s part of living in a country with a wonderfully variable climate like the UK. If I had access to a beach like the one youve pictured, then I would have stopped my gardening for a few hours to lie in the sand and have a paddle.

cheezncrackers · 26/05/2026 09:49

Another 33 degree day forecast here today (just outside London). Yesterday was unbearable after about 4pm until I went to bed and we have a well-insulated house, lots of fans, blinds and blackout lined curtains. I started work at 8 so I can finish an hour early. My arms will be sticking to my desk by mid-afternoon.

mondaytosunday · 26/05/2026 09:56

I can’t find the one fan in the house so have broken down and ordered a same day delivery off Amazon.

Dragonfly97 · 26/05/2026 10:21

Massive west-facing lounge window; we close the windows, blinds and curtains, and it was still 26°c in here yesterday afternoon. Don't know what to do, apart from bricking up half the window. Wondering if an awning would help.

You need thermal blinds. We've had them fitted to all our south/west facing windows since 2022, when we had that horrendous summer with back-to-back heatwaves. But also, YY to an awning to prevent the sun hitting the windows.

No such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong clothes, ladies. Sun cream and crack on.

Hey lady, I could be butt naked and slathered in factor 50... this level of heat still sucks arse. Crack on indeed!

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 26/05/2026 11:06

I'm heat intolerant, have an illness affected by the heat and the medication makes me prone to issues with heat. So a triple whammy.

Thankfully I'm able to stay in and have coping strategies but apparently in other people's opinions the strategies mean I'm lazy and I should be out enjoying the sun 🙄

I'd prefer to sacrifice a couple of days now than several weeks/months later to pacify people who have never walked in my shoes.

FernFaery · 26/05/2026 11:19

Ok my messages were slightly tongue in cheek because anyone who dares to complain about months on end of grey, rainy, windy weather is told to ‘puddle suit and crack on’ and has to listen to the gloating of people who ‘love the rain’.

Fair enough if you dislike the heat but imagine months of it on end, and it actually almost being the default, like those of us who dislike grey rainy weather have to put up with!

It just makes complaints given we have precisely 6 days of this heat seem churlish.

Same here.

I have epilepsy and heat is a major trigger of my seizures. Im a nervous wreck. Im sat in front of three fans, trying to stay as hydrated as possible but I’m so anxious.

I haven’t been abroad for 7 years for this reason.

I wish I could enjoy the sun but sadly not.
I’m just waiting for it to pass and hoping I stay seizure free in the meantime.

I get all the ignorant comments of how I should make the most of it, how “it’s not that hot”, “just sit in the shade” and all the other crap that makes absolutely no difference to my epilepsy; and it drives me mad.

A lot of people don’t actually realise that for some the heat is a major problem and prefer to just cast judgements without knowing the full picture.

Squirrel60 · 26/05/2026 11:32

I never could and never will be OK with summer/sun/heat.

It causes me all kinds of physical problems, and being menopausal doesn't help!

I've even had to take my rings off as the heat has made my hands and fingers swell up!

Squirrel60 · 26/05/2026 11:38

I'm in Whitby. Apparently, we're due for rain on the 27th. I do hope so!

Purplecatshopaholic · 26/05/2026 11:40

Bloody love the heat, bring it on I say. It’s currently 22 with me in Central Scotland and I am loving it, would happily have it hotter. Light linen clothes, cool drinks, great sandals and a good pedi for me, lol. I am physically much healthier in better weather too

Me too. I feel much better in warm sunny weather

PerhapsaSillyQuestion · 26/05/2026 12:09

@Dragonfly97 you need to stop the sun hitting the glass from the outside via a blind canopy outside or simply nail up sheets etc to stop the sun hitting the glass .

IHateHotWeather · 26/05/2026 12:12

Fuck this. I've just bought an air conditioning unit on Amazon. I've thought about it for years but yesterday was the last straw.

May is normally my favourite month of the year. Pretty spring flowers, sunny without the heat of summer. Wtf happened 🥺?

Omgg sorry girl 🥺🥺 - hospitals are notorious for having zero ac

I'd support my taxes being used to upgrade all hospitals with ac!

I'm also a mum of one and a cat

Where she is i dont know, shes truly unhappy in the heat!

cheezncrackers · 26/05/2026 12:41

Our cat copes quite well with heat, but she doesn't show a great deal of sense. Our house faces NE at the front and SW at the back, so the back is BOILING. Where does the cat spend the entire hottest part of the day? Yep, the back. We have a hall with stone flooring that is reasonably cool, it's also cooler upstairs due to better airflow up there, but does she seek out the cooler areas of the house? She does not. Daft furball.

22 degrees would be fine but we are in the 30s. I think part of the problem too is that we had no gentle warming up. We went from cold temperatures for the season straight to a 30+ heatwave.
