Enjoy it whilst it lasts , be raining again soon

It's very hot for the UK in May.

But many people with experience of living in hotter places won't really understand the fuss that is made about 32 degrees. 32 is genuinely "not that hot" for a lot of people.

I think the real issue is that many British people just don't know how to cope with the heat. That's understandable as we haven't historically had to cope with it. But as the climate is changing and very few people seem committed to really doing anything about it, we should expect to see much higher temperatures here in the UK and people will need to learn how to adapt.

It's wonderful ☀️

From Warwick & it’s 30!!!! Spare a thought for those with chronic illnesses…….the heat is awful

I have a chronic illness, as does FIL, and the heat helps us no end! Sorry to be ‘that’ person. But I feel well, and I don’t normally, which is a treat.

Yes, unsuitable housing is certainly part of the problem. But it's also true that lots of people don't know how to cope with the hot weather.

Health and safety rules have turned even more flats into sweat boxes

Squirrelchops1 · 24/05/2026 18:07

It's been pretty hot out today but my house is lovely and cool.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 24/05/2026 18:09

I'm very very close to warwick and it's been very very hot today, cooling down a little now but still not sure whether to take the dogs out yet.

FruAashild · 24/05/2026 18:27

I'm in the NE and except for tomorrow when it's going to be 29C it's going to be low 20s all week so absolutely perfect. We're just planning a trip to the beach tomorrow. It's low tide at ~6am but DH isn't keen 😂.

user1476613140 · 24/05/2026 18:31

18 C and its insufferable 🥵

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 24/05/2026 19:21

If anybody here is taking antidepressants, just in case you're not already aware it can make you really heat intolerant and also make you feel really poorly from being too hot so make sure you're drinking plenty of water, wearing light layers and getting in the breeze or shade where you can.

Bucket hats and neck fans are a bloody lifesaver.

SereneGoose · 24/05/2026 19:30

South East Scotland ...perfect day, 21 with a lovely soft breeze...haa we so rarely get to brag.

I don’t mind the heat in other places but 28 degrees in London at 7:30pm is horrible

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/05/2026 19:46

ohyesido · 23/05/2026 15:46

Who is saying that, it’s bloody balmy here

Dh told me earlier that there’s a lot of rain forecast for next week. I hope that proves to be true since everything around here is parched! Grass in the local park looks like it does at the end of a good summer -brown!

Scarlettjune · 24/05/2026 19:48

It is roasting

What does wryly amuse me is people moaning about the humidity. Evidently they’ve never experienced the sort of humidity you get in many countries for much of the year. The UK version is a mere amateur by comparison!

DuaneBarry · 24/05/2026 19:51

Well yes, but we are all in different places. Highest here has been 17 today and it’s very breezy. It’s going to be a bit warmer next week but 21 is the highest we’ve been forecast. North West England.

Getamoveon2024 · 24/05/2026 19:51

Roasting here. 36 degrees in our garden! We live on the coast in a very touristy area. We are staying at home to avoid the hordes. Fortunately high ceilings and west facing mean our house is cool.
