Usually hate the hot weather. But havd created a fully functioning outdoor room in the garden this weekend. New garden sofas, rug and massive parasol. Have moved my jigsaw table out here and have Fleetwood Mac playing quietly on the Sonos. Just about to make another jug of Pimms which should see us through to bedtime.

ChaliceinWonderland · 24/05/2026 19:52

I'm in Reading i can confirm it Is 32 degrees

Beer3000 · 24/05/2026 20:06

FeliciaFancybottom · 23/05/2026 15:04

It's 15 degrees here, so yeah, it's not that hot.

It's 16 here, and even the inside of the house got up to 16.5 earlier for the first time since heating oil doubled in price.

But honestly, at 16c it does feel actually hot and weird. A week or two ago it was in single digits and we are just not accustomed to it. I can't even imagine how unbearable 32 would be.

It is hot where I am but the humidity is much lower than the past few heatwaves we've had so it's not been unbearable so far.

FoxRedPuppy · 24/05/2026 20:14

I’m in North Wales and today has been scorchio. I would consider 21 hot, but I’m pale skinned. We were meant to do a 6 mile walk today, but halved it as too hot to be climbing hills.

I love sunshine, but about 18-20 is perfect for being outside and active.

But I go outside all year round. I don’t really get all the hate about rain.

ladyrinths · 24/05/2026 20:16

And I would wear a jumper at 21, that’s not hot to me.

JasonTindallsTan · 24/05/2026 20:16

I love the hot weather, we don’t get nearly enough of it for my liking.

HangingOver · 24/05/2026 20:21

Cornwall was roasting today. Tourists walking in the road all sunburnt.

ladyrinths · 24/05/2026 19:34

But many people with experience of living in hotter places won't really understand the fuss that is made about 32 degrees. 32 is genuinely "not that hot" for a lot of people

I don’t mind the heat in other places but 28 degrees in London at 7:30pm is horrible

Hard agree, I remember walking down Ladbroke Grove the summer it got to 38 and the buildings felt like they were on fire

ladyrinths · 24/05/2026 20:30

My garden is west facing which doesn’t help. Although I love it the 362 days off the young when it’s not 30 degrees!

During the summer of 2022, the UK experienced five distinct heatwave periods ranging from 3 to 16 days in length, which culminated in a historic national temperature record of (40.3^{\circ }\text{C}). 1, 2]
According to the UK Health Security Agency, the five heatwave episodes included:
Episode 1: 4 days (June 16 to June 19)
Episode 2: 16 days (July 10 to July 25), which included the most intense 2-day period of Level 4 extreme heat (July 18 and July 19)
Episode 3: 7 days (July 30 to August 5)
Episode 4: 10 days (August 8 to August 17)
Episode 5: 3 days (August 23 to August 25)
The UK experienced four distinct, relatively short-lived heatwaves during the summer of 2025, each lasting between 5 to 6 days. While these events were brief, they occurred throughout the season and resulted in the warmest overall UK summer on record. 1, 2, 3]
Breakdown of the 2025 heatwave events:
Heatwave 1 (Third week of June): Officially declared in mid-June, lasting about five days in central and eastern England before breaking with thunderstorms.
Heatwave 2 (Late June - Early July): This event lasted about six days for parts of Yorkshire and the Humber and five days in the East. A longer, more intense spell of this heatwave affected London and southern areas, peaking at 34.7°C between June 23 and July 2.
Heatwave 3 & 4 (July and August): Additional, intermittent heatwaves occurred during these months, pushing the overall summer average for the UK to a record-breaking 16.1°C. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

My dh is wearing a jumper but in his defence he’s from the Caribbean and it’s only 24 here. Where he grew up it was 28 every day and one day they closed his school because it was 21 and they were too cold.

🤣

DH has relatives in Thailand and apparently when it gets down to 25 degrees, everyone puts a coat on.

Meadowfinch · Yesterday 17:21

Definitely hot in Newbury. We ran the Newbury 10k this a.m. Was 31 when we crossed the finish line. 😎

...me! 🤣 We evaporate in slight heat!

Same, although I’ve spent a pleasant chilled day in my pitch black house with all the blinds down, only escaping briefly for a quick air conditioned run down to Tesco for the 25% off six bottles of wine.

We’re not far from you and have spent three days hiding from the heat inside. Our dogs are really suffering!

Well yes, but we are all in different places. Highest here has been 17 today and it’s very breezy. It’s going to be a bit warmer next week but 21 is the highest we’ve been forecast. North West England.

Edited

NW England here, 33 currently

No cos i cant afford it Thats why im in SH. Its a top floor flat

I'm sure I should suggest this, but could you unscrew the window restrictors, if you don't have little ones who would be at risk of falling out? If they could be unscrewed and then reattached I would be pretty tempted to. This is what I used to do at university 😬

dontforgetme · Yesterday 17:52

West mids is the same, I am sweltering!!

TheyGrewUp · Yesterday 17:52

It's been up to 34/3/ here. A couple of hours and a coffee in my local air conditioned shopping centre was bloody marvellous!

AgnesMcDoo · Yesterday 17:53

23C in Scotland and it’s lovely

VintageLane · Yesterday 17:57

It’s fucking roasting here! We have 8 coming for a barbecue shortly. Just prepping has rendered my husband a sweaty mess. I refuse to complain, but bloody hell, it’s hot. And I say that as someone who spends most of July in Florida.

I have all my bedding on the washing line. I was hoping to put it back on the bed slightly damp tonight. But I don’t think that’s going to happen!
