Hairdresser has stopped bookings from July and I am wondering why

My hairdresser works for himself renting a chair in a salon. He uses an online booking system for his services.

I was booking a hair appointment and I noticed he has blocked off any further dates from booking from the middle of July. Previous to this I could browse dates months in advance. It looks like he's cutting off booking from the middle of July. I saw before this a few weeks ago that he has the who of October blocked off. I presumed possibly a holiday. Now it's it's like from the middle of July there's nothing.

My mind is wandering thinking - is he leaving hairdressing and why hasn't he said anything on his social media? He had reduced availability this year. He stopped Saturday bookings and he's not posting much hair/work pictures any more on his social media. It does look like some reduced availablity and now from July - nothing.

Has anyone else experienced the same from their hairdresser and what was it? Are they leaving hairdressing or opening up a cabin/salon from home or going something else.

I am just a little disappointed, that's all.

You could always ask him?

SemperIdem · 19/05/2026 23:50

Going travelling perhaps? Or welcoming a baby with his partner but doesn’t want to put that on social media?

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 19/05/2026 23:51

Can't you just ask him?

Nobody on this site knows why your hairdresser isn't available in July.

It's not only in July. It looks like a stop to bookings from July onwards.

I don't know. He's gay and he said before he doesn't want kids. I don't know how that came up in conversation but it did.

It looks like a pure dead end from the middle of July.

It's the lack of transparency on his social media. You would think he would write something about his limited appointments going forward and just let us as clients know.

Not everyone follows their hairdresser on social media and expects to be apprised of their every career move 😳

If it bothers you this much just ring up the salon!

What’s your issue? That you don’t know when he can next do your highlights, or that he might be seriously ill?

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 20/05/2026 00:11

Are you honestly thinking that someone on here is going to know the answer based on a simple previous experience with their own hairdresser?

just ask him

pizzaHeart · 20/05/2026 00:11

His renting agreement coming to an end and he won’t continue at this salon.
Possible reasons:
Disagreement with the owner, owner sells business, he’s found another place, he is opening his own salon but it’s not certain yet, he is moving to another town/ country, he goes traveling.

Alien returning to his home planet?

BerryTwister · 20/05/2026 00:16

It seems pretty obvious he won’t be working there from July. Either permanently (eg moving away, quitting) or temporarily (eg travelling, scheduled surgery).

Your hairdresser doesn’t have to explain his life all over social media. Just ask him.

Okiedokie123 · 20/05/2026 00:22

Why not just ask him?
Or mind your own business? Maybe he fancies a summer of travelling? Maybe hes moving and setting up home 200 miles away. Either way, its really none of your beeswax if he hasnt chosen to tell you personally.

LadyMinerva · 20/05/2026 00:24

Maybe it's deeply personal and he is not yet ready to share anything. You don't sound concerned for him, just concerned about what you are going to do about your hair.

pizzaHeart · 20/05/2026 00:25

The simplest way OP is to call salon and say: could you book me for a colour in August, I want a particular day. They would answer : oh we are closing for refit from 1st of August. I thought Fred told everyone.

HeddaGarbled · 20/05/2026 00:28

It's the lack of transparency on his social media

He’s a hairdresser, not a politician. He can be as opaque as he chooses. You’re being like all those “Where’s Kate?” weirdos before she publicised her cancer diagnosis.

BauhausOfEliott · 20/05/2026 00:28

Jeez, just bloody ask him. How would anyone here know what his summer plans are?!

TinDogTavern · 20/05/2026 00:31

It’s certainly very odd behaviour OP. Perhaps you should log it with 101. Wink

Madame zaza I'll look into my crystal ball
I see I see...fuck all to do with you.😁

Imaginary86 · 20/05/2026 00:34

How do you expect anyone else to know? Ask him if you’re that bothered

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 20/05/2026 00:57

If he rents a chair now, could it be that he’s not allowed to advertise when he’s leaving, and where he’s going, as that might be seen by the salon owner as poaching clients?

steff13 · 20/05/2026 01:05

I think he's found himself a Sugar Daddy and he's getting married in July and starting his life as a trophy husband.

His clients are his own and not the salons. I never contacted to salon to book him because he used a separate online system different from the salon. His name doesn't appear as staff under the salons page either. He's reallying not poaching anyone.

so, why not just ask him? How the heck would we know? Seems a simple solution.
