Hairdresser has stopped bookings from July and I am wondering why

My hairdresser works for himself renting a chair in a salon. He uses an online booking system for his services.

I was booking a hair appointment and I noticed he has blocked off any further dates from booking from the middle of July. Previous to this I could browse dates months in advance. It looks like he's cutting off booking from the middle of July. I saw before this a few weeks ago that he has the who of October blocked off. I presumed possibly a holiday. Now it's it's like from the middle of July there's nothing.

My mind is wandering thinking - is he leaving hairdressing and why hasn't he said anything on his social media? He had reduced availability this year. He stopped Saturday bookings and he's not posting much hair/work pictures any more on his social media. It does look like some reduced availablity and now from July - nothing.

Has anyone else experienced the same from their hairdresser and what was it? Are they leaving hairdressing or opening up a cabin/salon from home or going something else.

I am just a little disappointed, that's all.

Yeah sorry op i agree with the others, it’s a bit weird you’ve posted on here about instead of just sending the guy a message asking if there is any way to book with him past July.

I know hairdressers move around a lot. May be the case that they have put the rent up and he is still looking for somewhere else. Could be anything.

Are you wanting to know from the point of view of finding a new hairdresser (in which case just find one) or from a desire to be nosy?

Hairdressers’ code: he may not be allowed to let you know where he’s going.

I used to go to a hairdresser under a similar arrangement who one visit passed me a surreptitious note letting me know how to find him in future. All very cloak and dagger for someone who wasn’t even employed by the (horrible) owner of the salon.

This had to be peak internet - instead of asking MN strangers instead of just asking the person 😂😂😂

It could be:

• moving premises locally or becoming a mobile hairdresser
• relocating miles away
• got a new job e.g. working for a company/celeb hairdresser
• taking some time off and hasn't decided how long
• another change to his bookings process e.g. changing his availability and hasn't decided yet

Really no way of knowing without asking.

btw I am still getting over my hairdresser moving back to Brazil 15 years ago. Nobody else has come close

I expect he is planning to join the travelling circus. Either that or he has been approached by MI5 and is going to work for them.

Well at least you’re OK until July. My hairdresser disappeared suddenly when he ran off with a client’s husband, which was both inconvenient and caused a minor local scandal.

I agree - I experienced this with my hairdresser. He wasn't allowed to say where he was moving to (though he did drop me a hint as to where it would be, when I asked!).
There are rules around this so it could well be this, OP (even though you see his clients as his own).
