Hairdresser has stopped bookings from July and I am wondering why

My hairdresser works for himself renting a chair in a salon. He uses an online booking system for his services.

I was booking a hair appointment and I noticed he has blocked off any further dates from booking from the middle of July. Previous to this I could browse dates months in advance. It looks like he's cutting off booking from the middle of July. I saw before this a few weeks ago that he has the who of October blocked off. I presumed possibly a holiday. Now it's it's like from the middle of July there's nothing.

My mind is wandering thinking - is he leaving hairdressing and why hasn't he said anything on his social media? He had reduced availability this year. He stopped Saturday bookings and he's not posting much hair/work pictures any more on his social media. It does look like some reduced availablity and now from July - nothing.

Has anyone else experienced the same from their hairdresser and what was it? Are they leaving hairdressing or opening up a cabin/salon from home or going something else.

I am just a little disappointed, that's all.

He’s going on love island.

Momtotwokids · 20/05/2026 02:21

He isn’t a surgeon just get a new hairdresser. Unless someone on here knows him no one knows the answer.

Monzo1ss · 20/05/2026 02:23

Just message him and ask

The simplest explanation is always the one - he’s a foreign agent who has been called back to Havana (or Moscow/Beijing/Berlin).

His clients are his own and not the salons. I never contacted to salon to book him because he used a separate online system different from the salon. His name doesn't appear as staff under the salons page either. He's reallying not poaching anyone.

Yes but because he uses a chair from the salon, he is renting space from them, it sometimes comes under a ‘if you leave, go silently’ clause. This happened to a hairdresser I used to know. They were her clients, they made appointments to see her, but she used the salon for a seat, hair washing space etc.

Big red flag there, you dodged a bullet. If your hairdresser is doing something in his life without keeping you fully informed, you are far better off without him.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 20/05/2026 03:17

My theory is that this is an elaborate ghosting of you OP. He has created a new site for all his other clients to keep booking him.

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/05/2026 04:48

i would private message him on social media. It sounds as if he’s perhaps allowed to say due to contractual obligations.

He’s going on love island.

Or God forbid MAFS! OP just bloomin ask him! What a ridiculous post.

Pushmepullu · 20/05/2026 04:55

I reckon he’s going to court and is expecting to be imprisoned.

redteapot · 20/05/2026 04:55

My hairdresser also disappeared from being available for online bookings, because she wanted to control her diary better so she just takes bookings in person or over the phone now. It could be that?

Out of a very big field this is up there with weird Mumsnet threads!

Going travelling perhaps? Or welcoming a baby with his partner but doesn’t want to put that on social media?

‘Welcoming’ a baby? 🤮

Bettermuseli · 20/05/2026 05:11

Shat stops you asking him?

Damaticcus · 20/05/2026 05:12

GoodVibesHere · 19/05/2026 23:55

Nobody on this site knows why your hairdresser isn't available in July.

Most accurate answer.
Or any date after. This question can only be answered by one person.

VioletandMauve · 20/05/2026 05:14

For the love of god just ask him!

Lostworlds · 20/05/2026 05:17

There could be a wide number of reasons such as a long holiday, moving salon, changing days and prices or even he’s just not got round to sorting the dd sort out yet. The best thing to do is contact him, just send a message and say you were hoping to book in July, will the diary be open soon? And see what he says!

MintyPig1989 · 20/05/2026 05:34

I would send a message if you can asking if there's a possible glitch in the system as you can't book beyond July?

Forty85 · 20/05/2026 05:57

You just need to ask him and stop over thinking it. Two appointments ago I said to my hairdresser I could only book up till August and was she full for the year after that and she said no, it was an issue with the booking system online. My cousin's salon uses a different system - phorest and it has issues too sometimes.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 20/05/2026 06:00

As everyone has said, just ask him.

And he’s your HAIRDRESSER. He does not have to tell you his career decisions.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/05/2026 06:02

Medical treatment
Lease coming an end
Career change

Brideofclover · 20/05/2026 06:27

Maybe he’s been ill? Maybe he’s going on holiday? Maybe he’s moving? Maybe he’s got another job?
Either way it’s his life he doesn’t have to tell you or anyone else what he’s doing!!!

It's the lack of transparency on his social media. You would think he would write something about his limited appointments going forward and just let us as clients know.

Message him and ask. Say you're trying to book for July / August and realised you can't book anything after June and you're wondering what you need to do.

It could be the salon itself is closing and he's not allowed to put anything online til they have. It could be the site he uses for booking is closing and he's not yet allowed to share his new one. Or it could be he's leaving the profession but doesn't want to advertise it.

Wexone · 20/05/2026 06:38

MayRedRose · 20/05/2026 00:03

It's not only in July. It looks like a stop to bookings from July onwards.

my hairdresser can only be booked untill July also she will release the next month bookings soon. she is self employed and also has children. she has to sort her calender altogether including childcare hospital appointments etc. Once that sorted she sees what hours she is avaliable to work etc and releases them. if you have specific dates etc she will take note and message me before dates released and book me in before. she will release her Xmas dates in sept

Perhaps he doesn’t want you all to know,

It boggles the mind that you wouldn’t just ask him instead of getting a bunch of strangers to speculate. Apart from anything else, you won’t know whether anyone is right until you ask him!
