So basically next month I’m going on holiday.
Its a 10 hour flight and just as luck would of had my period is due that day.
i have endometriosis so my periods are crazy heavy.
Anyway just in conversation to my good friend I told her I would have to get up a few times to the bathroom to freshen up etc so will need to take my handbag to the toilet on the plane -carrying spare underwear etc
She said people will think I’m a loon getting up with my handbag
The thing is what else am I meant to do ? Walk down the aisle with a pair of knickers and a always pad?
Im self conscious at the best of times
Would you even bat an eyelid ?
I mean surely people might even do skincare on a 10 hour flight ?

Literally nobody will notice what you do or do not take with you to the loo! She sounds barmy.

youalright · 18/05/2026 17:23

I wouldn't even notice. And on the off chance I did i would assume your on your period or flying alone so don't want to leave your bag.

luluxxx · 18/05/2026 17:23

Well I didn’t even think about it ,till she said that
I mean il have wipes for my face etc in there too

Wtf no one will even notice. And if they do…so what? You could be on your period, changing, doing skincare, injecting insulin, using your own loo roll, anything

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/05/2026 17:24

Get a prescription from your GP to delay your period.

Buzzer3555 · 18/05/2026 17:24

I doubt anyone will even notice. Your friend is a barmpot

Stoicandhappy · 18/05/2026 17:25

She sounds deranged. Ignore her.

Maddy70 · 18/05/2026 17:26

No one is looking at you on a plane. Don't worry x

I believe GPs won't now usually prescribe for holidays. There was a thread about it last week.

But I agree - no one will bat an eyelid. Maybe get some period pants as additional protection?

Chapbook · 18/05/2026 17:26

Your friend must be a deeply weird person to fly with. I mean, does she gets] that there's in-flight entertainment -- that she doesn't have to amuse herself for ten hours in the air by speculating about what people are going to the loo for?

MoonWoman69 · 18/05/2026 17:26

I take my handbag to the loo all the time, so I wouldn't even bat an eyelid at it. Nobody will be taking any notice at all. Most of them will probably be asleep on such a long flight. Hope the flight goes well for you x

ConstitutionHill · 18/05/2026 17:27

What about some period pants as well, as another level of security. Oh, also, she's not a good friend.

spicysalad · 18/05/2026 17:27

No one will notice

But get the prescription to delay your period, costs about £10 from any online pharmacy. Works really well, I had it for a holiday a couple of weeks ago.

hobbledyhoy · 18/05/2026 17:27

You’re wildly overthinking this, or at least your friend is. Even if anyone did notice, the women may think ‘she likely has her period’ and the men would think ‘she has a bag.’ But mostly, who cares what they think anyway.

PennySweeet · 18/05/2026 17:27

You're friend is acting like a weirdo.

I'd say the vast majority of women who carry handbags take them to the toilet.

Arlanymor · 18/05/2026 17:27

No one else will care. But would you consider talking to your GP about getting medication to delay your period? If you are able to take it, would seem like a rational thing to do. My periods were biblical. I used to take very high strength pills to delay them for a week when I went on holiday. Biblical I tell you!

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/05/2026 17:28

Don't tell them it's for a holiday then.

I had the same problem when I was a young woman. I always took my handbag with me for that very reason. No one ever commented.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 18/05/2026 17:28

No one will care AT ALL.
If you are that bothered get a small fabric zip bag....

Personally id just delay my period

Boxcan · 18/05/2026 17:28

No one will notice or care, but I'd shove them in my pocket, simply because , on a trip, my "handbag" would mean a backpack, and also because I wouldn't want to put my bag down on the toilet floor.

jimbort · 18/05/2026 17:31

Your friend is being weird. Have you tried transaemic acid? It can make your period lighter. We shouldn’t have to suffer like this.

AllBranGirl · 18/05/2026 17:44

She sounds like a loon

DappledThings · 18/05/2026 17:46

Your friend is barking. Nobody will notice and even if they did would think nothing of it.

afaloren · 18/05/2026 17:22

Exactly this. I've never noticed what people are taking or not taking to the loo. Or even thought about why they're getting out their seat. If anyone is that interested in what strangers are doing then they're the ones who are a bit of a loon and it's none of their blooming business!

Also, your friend doesn't sound particularly nice when she knows why you have to visit the toilet. She should be being supportive, not making you feel paranoid over a complete non issue.

BeardySchnauzer · 18/05/2026 17:50

I always take my handbag to the loo with me because I don’t trust the passengers around me not to rifle through it 🤣

really don’t worry - you see people with bags who are probably cleaning their teeth or others who get changed or whatever reason really
