Help me feel better about not buying the lovely new SUV that will cost me £620 per month including finance, insurance and road tax?

Nissan

My credit is poor

I currently own an 19 Nissan micra

I want so badly to drive an suv, and signed up to the contract

I know what I SHOULD do but I want this car

😭

Thank you 😞

I’m not sure where this info is from but all I can say is I have had 4 qashqai’s and all have been brilliant, not a thing has gone wrong on any of them. I just used to hand them back for a new one. My most recent one is now 5 years old and apart from the usual tyres and a set of brake pads again no issues. I wouldn’t put the unreliability of range rovers anywhere near a qashqai

sadaboutcar26 · 15/05/2026 17:07

I got the call from the car company and they've cancelled the order

Honestly I feel like such a fucking loser 😭

The mobility element of dcs dla claim was rejected at tribunal, because of me getting tongue tied

I wont qualify for mobility for pip

We do really need a car. The thought of walking the .4 miles to the nearest bus stop is stressful enough

So shit. Anyway, i am so grateful to you people here - i have given my head a wobble and have resolved to get my car deep cleaned, get some nice airfreshners in, get the aircon fixed and embrace it for another year

And get my credit sorted. That has to be the priority

Maybe next year i'll have enough saved

Thanks again everyone for being kind to me, but being honest. I needed this thread ❤️

OP… I’m really happy you’ve cancelled. I have had my car for 10 years and he is 16 years old. I never planned to replace him, but my Mum has been diagnosed with horrid illness, and she lives 3 hours away, so I’ve had to get a new one as mine was getting unreliable…. As a PP said, the first couple of weeks was fab! Sheeny shiny snd new! But… it really is just a mode of getting from A to B… and, having been crap with money in the past- and not particularly great now….. I PROMISE YOU that even your most desired car in the world is NOT worth the dread of those payments going out each month.

Do you know what I would do? I’ve seen similar suggestions, I think.. but, I’d put the loan amount into a separate ring fenced savings account, not touch it, and, after a year, 6 months or so, revisit the issue…… and, I guarantee you will be SO relieved you didn’t get the SUV! And, at that point, use some of your “ bonus” money to treat you and your lovely DC to a cool weekend away, or that new carpet!! 🥳

Good Luck!!🍀 💋

D20 · 15/05/2026 17:09

Great news OP. I’m proud of you making the right financial decision on this one.

Chewbecca · 15/05/2026 17:12

Well done for cancelling OP, it was the right decision.

If you are short of money, the last thing you need is to pay £15k of interest.

I would focus on paying down your debts. Imagine being debt free? It feels good. I drive a 10 year old car but have no debts whatsoever and pay zero interest, all my money is mine to spend as I choose.

Good luck.

YES!!!! See!! The relief you feel already!!!!! I bet you will sleep really well tonight, too!!!!

You are so brave you cancelling before it got too late, you clearly had huge doubts, so, PLEASE hold your head high!!! Get your credit sorted.. it can be done!… and be proud of the decision you reached. You sound such a lovely person… I hope today marks a fresh start in your head of where you stand, money wise, look forward and not back.

Onwards and Upwards! 🤩

professionalcommentreader · 15/05/2026 17:13

I’m rather spend that money on travel and/or experiences esp with children.

What the Tribunal Judges recommend is that you take someone with you who knows you - or the children in this case with you to the appeal.

You dont need Rumpole of the Bailey.

HairyToity · 15/05/2026 19:52

My DH didn't qualify for the PIP car (has the payments just not the enhanced for car) and he can't walk a mile after emergency spinal surgery and due to nerve damage has to rely on bowel irritation and catheter. He didn't appeal though. Couldn't face it.

If you read the criteria the car is hard to get, but know people better than DH with a disability car.

Shade17 · 15/05/2026 22:31

Whatever you do, don’t buy a QQ - they’re utter dog shit.

Snorerephron · 16/05/2026 00:43

sadaboutcar26 · 15/05/2026 11:22

Me and dc are disabled, we do honestly need a car

I'm disabled too. I love my teeny tiny car because I can squeeze it into the tiniest parking spaces that everyone else has rejected
And I have a very lightweight wheelchair that fits in the boot.

It's bad enough being enslaved to rent/mortgage payments. Noone should enslave themselves further for a big car

Snorerephron · 16/05/2026 00:50

TeenLifeMum · 15/05/2026 08:17

Keep the micra and save the extra you would have spent on the Nissan over a year so you’re in a better financial position. Then, this time next year, review if it’s viable.

i used to be laughed at on the school run with my Ford Ka. 3dds put school bags in the boot to fit in. The school run parents minds seemed to explode in confusion when they discovered I also had a 4x4 (just a vw Tiguan not a Range Rover). The Ford Ka was so so easy to park in tiny spaces and much better for the school run… clearly I was alone in this thinking and they first thought I was mad. The thing is, I couldn’t give a shit what the other parents think of me. I seem to give off poor person vibes 🤷🏻‍♀️

I reckon most of the people on the school run made all kinds of assumptions about me too (exacerbated by the fact I largely work from home and work flexibly so could do most of the school runs)

But I could squeeze the car into the space all the SUV mums had rejected.

And I am quite happy knowing I have a big fat pile of investments.and a big house and that we can holiday regularly and afford expensive hobbies for the children.

I have long learnt that the flashiest cars often belonged to people in huge financial stress or who lived very modest lifestyles in every other respect

Only a fool makes assumptions about affluence based on the car. I know someone utterly mind boggling wealthy and they drive a very dull VW.

I'm far from "mind-bogglingly" wealthy - I have a fairly normal job but 6 figures in my bank account. I drive an 11 year old Volvo.

Ginmonkeyagain · 16/05/2026 07:26

@sadaboutcar26 Smal point but no one walks four miles to the nearest bus stop in London. Your geography seems to be as bad as you financial planning.

sadaboutcar26 · 14/05/2026 23:53

Where i am everyone has massive suv's and i'm just there with my dc in the micra 😞

People in my street drive very fancy cars but we drive a basic car. It doesn't bother us. We are not in debt. It was paid for outright. Focus on your finances. Prioritise what's important.

YooBlue · 16/05/2026 08:22

OP: you are NOT a ‘loser’. making the sensible decision that prioritises your future stability and security is a definition of ‘winner’.

You’re on a roll!

Ginmonkeyagain · 16/05/2026 08:49

I mean I don't even own a car and give zero fucks about what anyone may think of me for that.

hellomylov3 · 16/05/2026 09:16

Well done OP, I'm sure you're disappointed but I think you made the right decision. I go through phases of wanting a new car and then I think 'no im going to get my moneys worth out of the car I have' which is no way flashy but easy to drive. All we need is something reliable to get us from a to b. We didnt have a car when I was young so it's still a novelty to me.

They said .4

perhaps your reading is as bad as your manners

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 16/05/2026 10:12

You can lease a brand new Dacia Bigster for about £120 a month! Why on earth you’d want to spend luxury car money on a Nissan is beyond me.

FaceIt · 16/05/2026 10:16

Personally I think you would be crazy.

Can you really afford £7,500.00 on a car a year that’s not even yours?

You could save up and buy a decent one for that price.

I love my vw and have a husband with zero interest in cars. I’ve sat in a very expensive BMW limited edition - just looked like a standard saloon to me so it was a bit lost on me. I think I was supposed to be impressed. But I agree, those with flashy cars tend to be trying to create an image of themselves for others.

There’s nothing intrinsically wrong with likening nice cars, and it doesn’t necessarily mean the person is just showing off.

i love cars and have had many different ones that people may call “flash”. It’s always been about what I like and want, not about anyone else.

I get that and I think there’s a group of people who are petrol heads - my friend has a fancy Audi she loves and the spec is very specific. She’ll drive it until it dies. The people getting a new white basic Audi every 4 years to keep up with the Jones’s are the ones I mean.
