Help me feel better about not buying the lovely new SUV that will cost me £620 per month including finance, insurance and road tax?

Nissan

My credit is poor

I currently own an 19 Nissan micra

I want so badly to drive an suv, and signed up to the contract

I know what I SHOULD do but I want this car

😭

Cars are absolute money pits and depreciate massively so unless you're loaded a brand new car is a total waste.

That sounds like a ridiculous amount of money. Keep paying off the micra. Put £370 money into savings each month. In a year you will have 4.5k, in 2 years you'd have 9k. You can then buy a fairly decent used car outright and have no more car finance. Then you can save the whole 700 a month for the next 3 years and upgrade to an even better car. Or save half for a car and the other half for anything else.

Why don’t you save that much each month/ the difference between the Qashqai and the micra for a year and if you don’t miss it, then you can be confident you can actually afford it in your budget

I know that youre talking pure sense.

My heart just wants this beautiful automatic qashqai with the sun roof and cruise control

Really not a fan of these for central london too risky for pedestrians and cyclists. Unnecessary. Dont they pollute more too

Fuel will cost more, tyres will cost more. It’s not just payments and insurance. This is crazy!!

ghostyslovesheets · 14/05/2026 23:57

You can’t afford it

i have a 74 i10 - £150 a month plus £28 insurance £17 tax

madness to get into that much debt for a car

Pinkissmart · 14/05/2026 23:57

Double your payment on your current car- pay it off, roll that money into savings for your next car

soddingspiderseason · 14/05/2026 23:57

You don’t need it. It will feel great for about 2 weeks, then you will realise that actually, its just a car that gets you from A to B, and that money could be spent on something far more enjoyable for you and your DC.

😞 'it will feel great for 2 weeks'

That helps thank you

Where i am everyone has massive suv's and i'm just there with my dc in the micra 😞

Who gives a toss what others do. For goodness sake give your head a wobble.

Those things are a menace and completely unnecessary where you live.

Honestly, you could probably get a hire car for that amount of money for a few weeks. That way you’d get the new car buzz, but when the feeling hits of ‘this is just a car’ you get to give it back with no ongoing commitment. Do not under any circumstances spend £500pcm on a Qashqai.

Honestly you will feel so much better after saying no. You’ve got FOMO. I’d be worried about hitting a kid if I was driving one of those in the city.

Nobody needs a bloody SUV. The micra is fine. Have lovely carpets instead and they’re yours

Look I don’t blame you, the entire economy is based on getting people to buy things they don’t need. There’s an industry devoted to convincing you that you want stuff.

Fortunately you’ve done the hard part which is seeing through the nonsense, now you’re just fighting the feelings that it brings up. And you can do it! 💪

If you (God forbid) hit a child in your Micra, they have a much better chance of surviving than if hit by an SUV at the same speed.

29% is a lot

29% is not “a lot”.

29% is a horrible, terrifying, vomit inducing, fuck of a lot.

As others have suggested use the £350 difference that you think you have to either save or pay off debts for the next year. And decide if you really can afford it. Work on your credit. Celebrate every time it improves - even by only a tiny bit. (By running round the house shouting “Yay!” not by spending money.

sleepwouldbenice · 15/05/2026 00:28

SUVs are tacky
the interest rate is ridiculous
I earn double what you do, doesn’t interest me to spend that on any lease car
you live in London! Even more of a waste
