Unhinged baby names you considered for your children when pregnant…

What were they?
i have two girls, and I’m a fan in different names - but not made up names, IYKWIM.

when I was pregnant with my first I watched Moulin Rouge, and for quite a while I was convinced that Satine would be the perfect name, but my partner said no.
my second I was desperate for Vivienne, which in in itself is a gorgeous name, but combined with Satine seemed to follow a trend of ‘ladies of the night’ (pretty women) so my partner said no again.

whats the most out there names you considered for your children?

my top boys name was Moss. Not sure I’d have gone through with it.

Dylan or Daniel . Turned out to be hugely popular those years . Also Morrissey ( I know ) .Tiernan .
Georgia for a girl , Georgie for short .Still sorry I didn't.

I teach a 13 year old Georgie, she's fab!

There is a girl called Sapphire at the school I work in.I think its lovely and her surname is ultra normal so it balances it

I absolutely love the combination of a multi-syllable, slightly "out there" first name, with a single syllable, common surname.

So something like:
Sapphire Jones
Arcadia Hughes
Delphinia White

Crunchymum · 14/05/2026 07:11

Indiana for DD1.

Still love it now to be honest but not a single person I mentioned it to had anything positive to say about it. DP hated it but if he'd been on board I'd have used it.

DD1 and DD2 both have beautiful, albeit "old lady" names.

Maybe I need another cat? 😆

I do too. We have short last name but all my girls names are short too. :(

TheKateColumbo · 14/05/2026 07:12

Leroy or Clement for a boy and Missy or Kitty for a girl.

If DS had been a girl he would have been Avril. Was a character in a book I read.

Was it one f the Anne of Green Gable's books?

Avril's Atonement??

NortieTortie · 14/05/2026 07:13

Peregrine. I haven't even bothered mentioning it to DH, he'd laugh me out the house.

cinemapop · 14/05/2026 07:13

20 years later im still a little bit sad my only DD isnt named Martha. I also loved Elliot as a girls name like on scrubs.

The complete name would have been -
Mercedes Serephina Serendipity Ocean Jade

luckily I had a boy🤣

That name makes me think of the McQueen family from Hollyoaks 😄

Puffalicious · 14/05/2026 07:15

Malachi or Camillus for a boy.

I do have Irish heritage but was born in Scotland & have an English father. DH vetoed both massively.

I have 3 boys all with very Scottish names, which I do love, but I still wistfully love Malachy.

Tuesday for a girl. No idea why, I thought it was 'different' 😅

Hazell (for a boy)
Asher (DP said it sounded like a sneeze)

I love the name Asher, it’s one of my favourites, doesn’t go with our surname at all but if it did, it definitely would have been under consideration.

MrsMitford3 · 14/05/2026 07:17

I was obsessed with Angharad when pregnant.

I still stand by it- it is a gorgeous name.

However we are British, live in England and absolutely no Welsh connection at all.

We had a boy called Sam 😂

Malachy is a beautiful name, and quite popular in Ireland.

The first time I saw Malachy it was written down. I thought it was malarkey which I’d never seen written. I thought poor child!

MushroomQueen · 14/05/2026 07:20

Lysander - I still like it but too much Jilly Cooperish for a family very much not like that world. Ex immediately vetoed esp as we live in Portugal

Livpool · 14/05/2026 07:20

Castiel 🤦🏼‍♀️

Babybirdmum · 14/05/2026 07:22

Phoenix

PersephoneParlormaid · 14/05/2026 07:24

I loved St John, pronounced Sinjun, and still do but DH said no. Xavier was another he said no to,

LaughingCat · 14/05/2026 07:26

Peregrine for DD. I was nervous people would be weirded out by it.

We went through with it and everyone loves the name!

CreamFirstJamSecond · 14/05/2026 07:27

My father wanted to name me Ermentrude (sp?)- Trudy for short. Thank fuck my mother vetoed it. Apart from MOOO I’d never have been able to spell it.

Persephone

I maintain that it’s a lovely name but I’d never be brave enough to use it

Ended Up with 2 DSs with very ordinary names

I knew a Persephone. She was called “Purse” for short which sounded ugly (to me).

I’m due in a couple of months and we’re down to two names…. One of which is Moss @aperolspritzbasicbitch 😬😆

Do it!

I don’t think that’s particularly ‘unhinged’ - I just don’t know if it was too alternative for us.
its a very cool name!

After reading about a long list of amazing women I fell in love with Constance. But didn’t go for it in the end.

A fella in work said go for it! It’s not like you’re thinking of called your kid Aloysius or something. FELL IN LOVE with that name instantly too.

in the end, neither were used. But I still think they’re great names!

oh I also loved Zelda but ex vetoed it as he had an ex called Zelda!

I really like Bellatrix!

It was the HP evil witch association that stopped us using it! Also H (now XH) was a reverse snob and didn’t like anything ‘too posh’. Even Elizabeth didn’t make the cut!
