Three women's bodies found in the sea at Brighton

BlackTogetherAgain · 13/05/2026 10:16

This is absolutely heartbreaking.

Why didn't anyone report three women were missing?

If it's a Channel crossing, from what I understand, it's rare that women go on the boats from France, and when they do they are pushed to the back / bottom, where the risk of being crushed is high.

If it's not a crossing, what on earth has happened?

Words can't express how evil this is.

Sussex Police say emergency services were called over concerns for the welfare of the women at around 05:45 today.

Just watch all the videos from the French side of the Channel as several journalists have covered this, although more from the French police are doing bugger all side of things despite us paying France billions. I've seen several from the mainstream news sites.

Edit
I'm thinking it's more likely to be swimmers unfortunately. Discovered at 5.45am.

Billions, really?

You might want to check that...

It's about £150 million/year which whilst not nothing is quite a long way from "billions".

Smithstreet · 13/05/2026 13:02

I live so close to this and am really saddened to read the comments about migrants. Even if it is (which is unlikely in Brighton, and for 3 of them to be found together if they were washed off a boat heading to Dover area is probably even more unlikely) then they are lives lost.

I live very very close and people swim all year round, Blackrock area has a very steep drop off into the sea and can be hard to get out even on the calmest of days. My guess would be either a group who had a bit too much to drink, or some early morning sea swimmers who got caught out and just couldn't get back in.

Whatever way it is really sad and why every thread or topic has to get back to migration is just depressing.

Don't expect someone who doesn't know where Brighton is or which direction the currents flow in the channel to know the difference between millions and billions.

I live right by the beach in Brighton. Lots of people go off early morning dip and further along by the pier up to the marina you get a few people having a spontaneous paddle after a night out. If it’s a bit windy you have to time the waves to get in and out and there can be unexpected drops where the shingle moves so it’s very easy to find yourself in a dangerous situation even if you are experienced.

Mumsnet is a fucking cesspit now. Three dead women and all anyone cares about is their immigration status.

@TheKittenswithMittensI live on West Coast of Scotland (can see beach from my house) there are two groups of wild swimmers who go out every week on a Saturday and a Sunday, none of them wear wetsuits (quite often bobbly hats) but swimsuits all round for them

I live in North Wales on the coast and the wild swimmers here don't wear wetsuits and they go out every single week, regardless of the weather.

Yep.

It seems no opportunity is too sad or too tragic.

They usually come first and then send for their families to join them afterwards so they are entitled to better housing, or use their status as settled in the UK to attract a wife in their home country which they then bring over for the same reason. If there was a country offering me a free life I'd also go tbh!

Anyway, whoever the bodies belong to it's terribly tragic, must be a really scary death at sea and usually totally preventable.

Have you read the rules around marrying and bringing a wife or husband to this country?

How long the process takes?
How much you have to earn for it to be agreed that you can support a spouse?
How many interviews and how much evidence is needed?

My employee went through this process. A qualified teacher, working as a HLTA. He had to take an additional job in school holidays and additional hours (working in wrap around child care) as he didn’t earn enough to support a spouse. (Home Office rules)
He worked from 7.30am until 18.00 every week day in school, coached sport, weekends and holidays. He needed to earn something like £29500 for a period of 3 years before he could bring his wife here. I had to sign off his application, just one of a number of people. His wife needed a full time job, also a qualified teacher, she took a job here in the local factory here to give her an income and to improve her already fluent English.
It took years for her to have permission to be here.

You have no idea of how the system works. Do some reading, do some factual research before coming onto DM spouting misinformation and spreading stereotypical nonsense.

Happyjoe · 13/05/2026 13:18

My old hometown. You'd be amazed how people go swimming, esp when drunk. Or jump/fall off the end of the pier. Witnessed someone smash their head up, jumping off the Groyne by the pier, and a poor dog too that leaped off.

Wouldn't be surprised if all a awful awful accident.

Agree. Utterly vile that the ghouls are attempting to make political capital out of it.

My local women's wild swimming group are called The Blue Tits 🤣

Yeah the Blue Tits are nationwide and have groups all over the place.

my local flock has a men’s group called the blue balls.

BridgetJonesV2 · 13/05/2026 13:20

We stayed in St Agnes in Cornwall a couple of years ago and there was a group of swimmers most mornings on the beach there, not a wetsuit in sight and this was early March. Their skin was beetroot red coming out but they all had dryrobes to put on a bit quick! I was in awe.

I used to be a member of the Blue Tits. I went wild swimming in all weathers and I would just wear a wet suit top. I miss it actually, but I moved inland and to get to the coast now would take too long.

TheKittenswithMittens · 13/05/2026 12:01

It's May, the sea is still very old. Noone would go swimming without a wetsuit.

No they really would. I've been in November and in February in a swimsuit. Admittedly that's only 10 minutes in the water! But yes, wild swimmers would certainly swim without a wetsuit in May.

55notout · 13/05/2026 13:24

As a wild swimmer my first thought was that it was sea swimmers. 3 women is a likely combination. As a PP said upthread we have a local female group - most swims are early morning before work.

It never occurred to me they could be ‘boat people’ but then I’m not a massive fucking racist looking to derail a thread with some daily mail bullshit.

I used to look like I was sunburnt when I got out of the four degree water 🌊

Teenagerantruns · 13/05/2026 13:25

This is an odd thread, l thought when l heard the news they were early morning swimmers.
I live on the coast and loads of groups swim in the morning, never would have thought of small boat people...even if it was its still tragic.

Exactly this.
Racism is rife on here.

Mumsnet normalising racism of none white people regardless of where they were born or died.

If you dare say owt you’re called a snowflake or similar.

I’m disgusted daily at what has become the norm.

Idk if these are migrants or swimmers. But how horrific that women get pushed to the back to be crushed. Omg!

I don’t think this is true

Of course they would; many people do cold water swimming...all year round.

OrangeJellySnakes · 13/05/2026 13:35

I was swimming a few weeks ago in a bikini so I don’t think wetsuits are worn everywhere!

I also wondered if it was early morning swimmers or pissed from night before and decided to take a dip swimmers.

It's not true. I have worked with migrants and they will always prioritise women and children on the boats wherever possible.

HarmoniousHumbug · 13/05/2026 13:36

We’ve got family in Brighton and I went in the sea there on Christmas Day a few months ago in just a swimsuit.
Definitely not something I’m going to do again!

My heart goes out to the poor families having their world torn apart today. I know what it’s like to be on the receiving end of the drowning of a loved one.
