Three women's bodies found in the sea at Brighton

This is absolutely heartbreaking.

Why didn't anyone report three women were missing?

If it's a Channel crossing, from what I understand, it's rare that women go on the boats from France, and when they do they are pushed to the back / bottom, where the risk of being crushed is high.

If it's not a crossing, what on earth has happened?

Words can't express how evil this is.

its dreadful and terribly sad. could see and her the helicopter this morning when I went to the marina, and for hours after. made me wonder if they were looking in case there could be more people.
very sad.

JulietteHasAGun · 13/05/2026 14:40

I’d just assumed swimmers who got into trouble 🤷‍♀️. Really sad however they ended up there.

Why? Why do you need to know this right now? So you can speculate? The actual facts of who they were and why they were in the water will no doubt come out in due course.

Not necessarily. If this is accidental, then it is up to the next of kin whether or not names and details are released at all.

You have evidence of this?

of course they don’t they are actually using the deaths of three young women to support their nasty racist theories absolutely sickening

Zebedee999 · 13/05/2026 14:16

They definitely cannot be from small boats; Kier has smashed the gangs. He told me that repeatedly ad nauseum. (Or do my eyes deceive me when I watch the news and it was another Labour lie?)

It’s ‘Keir’. You could at least spell it correctly while you’re being so clever.

FoundAUserNameDownTheSofa · 13/05/2026 14:52

It’s Brighton, either early morning swimmers or drunken or high-spirited spontaneous swim. Brighton is not a safe place to swim. Sadly I knew someone who drowned there.

Very likely a simple explanation, and a tragedy no matter who or how. But using it to push a narrative of evil society (you use ‘evil’ in your OP), or evil foreigners, and all the ‘nudge nudge wink wink’ that I’ve seen online is disgusting.

Pinribbons · 13/05/2026 14:57

I also don't understand why the first assumption is foul play. There's nothong in anyhting I've seem to suggest it's more than an awful accident.

Northermcharn · 13/05/2026 14:58

Haven't read tft but I'd expect it's one person got into trouble and other 2 tried to help. That area is where a lot of people go clubbing / swimming etc. Day and night. So so sad. It's v cold right now, in the water, and last night was rough seas, apparently.

Theraininspainishere · 13/05/2026 14:58

@Belladog1 there are inland groups all around the UK where they swim in rivers, lakes and reservoirs.

I wouldn’t say it is an unsafe place to swim full stop. Mostly it’s fine but you need to be aware when it’s choppy etc that it can be dangerous. Thunder now down here at the beach which seems fittting

Ilovemsrachel · 13/05/2026 12:39

I don’t care if they’re migrants or not. They are human beings and they were loved by someone, and they are dead. It’s tragic regardless of where they were born.

Indeed.
Some people don't miss a chance to bring in their racist misinformation when there's a tiny chink of an opportunity. It sickens me.

People love sensationalism- apparently 3 accidental drownings aren’t enough there has to be something else…

MousseMousse · 13/05/2026 12:32

Don't jump to conclusions about migrants. It's not uncommon for drunk people to go for a night time dip in Brighton, and for their bodies to be found the next day.

Yes, it's cold. Yes, they should know better, but drunk people don't think rationally.

It’s interesting what immediately comes to mind for different people. I wondered if it was young people out for the evening who thought they would have a swim. Migrants didn’t cross my mind. Very sad. What an awful way to die.

cavalier · 13/05/2026 15:28

Yes I said to hubby they are someone’s precious loved one 💔💔🌹😢 this had been enabled and it’s another reason why it has to stop .. They are someone mummy child nanny aunty sister 😔

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 13/05/2026 15:29

I live in Brighton. We have a lot of homeless people, many of whom have drink or drug issues. My first thought when I saw this was that it was an accident caused by impaired judgement. Whatever happened its very sad. It must be a terrifying way to die.

What had been enabled and needs to stop?

PortSalutPlease · 13/05/2026 15:34

What the actual fuck is wrong with some of you?! Three women are dead. They were daughters, possibly sisters, wives, friends. Now they are gone. That’s not less tragic if they do happen to be migrants, but for the record they are very unlikely to be.

  1. Brighton is very far off course for channel crossing routes. Boats don’t land here.
  2. It would be very unlikely for it to be 3 women if it was a migrant crossing.
  3. Brighton is very popular with sea swimmers
  4. Brighton is a party town - people sadly combine drink and the sea with sad outcomes
  5. if they had come on a boat then the police wouldn’t be asking local homes and businesses for CCTV footage of their journey to the beach.

A more valid question would be as it seemed they entered the water from the shore, where are their bags and possessions, and why has nobody reported them missing?

Feis123 · 13/05/2026 15:36

Sinister. Awful.

If it's a Channel crossing, from what I understand, it's rare that women go on the boats from France, and when they do they are pushed to the back / bottom, where the risk of being crushed is high.

I always wonder where the women are, in all the headlines about illegal migrants being mostly men aged 16 -30.

I think many many women are trafficked - but for sex and are prostituted. THey never even make it to the camps on the French coast.

And yet, those women are more likely to be truly in need of asylum than the young men (who seem to be mostly economic migrants).

I think you've answered your own question here. Women fleeing their home countries are more likely to fall prey to traffickers before they get a chance to board a boat crossing the channel. The journey is dangerous and hard, more so for women and children. Men make that journey, hoping that once they have been accepted their families can then travel legitimately to be reunited. It's a consequence of the fact that we have no direct legal routes to seeking asylum from the British government unless you are on British soil(on the whole, there are exceptions such as the ones in place for Afghans, Ukrainians, and HK Chinese,). The family reunion route is a legitimate route, but of course that means someone has to have made it here and had their asylum claim accepted first.

PrincessOfPreschool · 13/05/2026 15:38

@PortSalutPleaseHow do we know belongings weren't retrieved from shore? How do we know no one reported them missing? Was a statement made that the police have no idea who the women are?

TheKittenswithMittens · 13/05/2026 12:01

It's May, the sea is still very old. Noone would go swimming without a wetsuit.

It is indeed very old. All the year round!

Itsanewdawnitsanewdayitsanewlife4me · 13/05/2026 12:08

@TheKittenswithMittens eh... loads of people swim all year round without wetsuits.

My dd1 did yesterday, in Cornwall! But she’s one of those nutters who sea-swim on Christmas or Boxing Day.

bookworm14 · 13/05/2026 13:12

Mumsnet is a fucking cesspit now. Three dead women and all anyone cares about is their immigration status.

Yeah… sad state of affairs 😓

TenTenTenAgain · 13/05/2026 15:45

@PortSalutPlease it could've been students out clubbing. As I posted earlier my daughter was out with her flatmates at a seaside club there last night
My mind immediately went to it being young people after a night out being drunk and careless.

What an awful situation for the three women ether way.

Because if you listen to the press conference from the police, they are asking for help in identifying them because they don’t know.
