Three women's bodies found in the sea at Brighton

This is absolutely heartbreaking.

Why didn't anyone report three women were missing?

If it's a Channel crossing, from what I understand, it's rare that women go on the boats from France, and when they do they are pushed to the back / bottom, where the risk of being crushed is high.

If it's not a crossing, what on earth has happened?

Words can't express how evil this is.

I used to live near there at beachy head and people were always getting washed up.
Jumpers, people caught by the tide, swimmers. The sea is dangerous.

What surprised me at Beachy Head and other coastline there is there’s no fencing and it could be very easy to take a wrong step and fall down the cliffs. I’m sure I’ve heard of the odd dog falling down unfenced coastline there.

As are the cliffs but people still don’t take notice.
Always seeing people on the edge taking selfies or having their photo taken.

FFS not everything has to be about migrants!

There are all sorts of reasons why men are more common in certain types of migration. It is probably much safer for a young man to travel abroad than a young woman for example. Also men often go and send money home to support their family. I know my father in law worked in England and sent money home as did many many Irish men.

Edited

They usually come first and then send for their families to join them afterwards so they are entitled to better housing, or use their status as settled in the UK to attract a wife in their home country which they then bring over for the same reason. If there was a country offering me a free life I'd also go tbh!

Anyway, whoever the bodies belong to it's terribly tragic, must be a really scary death at sea and usually totally preventable.

Go to France, chuck your passport away and come back on a dinghy. Let us know how you get on.

HelenaWilson · 13/05/2026 12:29

Agreed, there's no evidence they weren't reported missing.

They may not have been 'missing'. We don't know when they went into the water. If it was early this morning, they were probably found before anyone knew they weren't where they were expected to be.

When I visited beachy head a few years back we got train and bus there but didn’t realise the bus back wasn’t running and got stranded there with 2 friends. We asked a couple in car park area if we could get a lift but no, the man was happy to do so but his girlfriend said a firm no. It was a long walk to a cafe where we could get a cab. Luckily a female vicar in a 4x4 was there in the car park area and offered us a lift to Eastbourne, the vicars go there to help suicidal people. Next time we’re definitely driving.

Exactly. It’s like they think they’re safe at the edge of a cliff with potentially unsafe rocky ground.

Free life my arse. This is just racist crap

MousseMousse · 13/05/2026 12:32

Don't jump to conclusions about migrants. It's not uncommon for drunk people to go for a night time dip in Brighton, and for their bodies to be found the next day.

Yes, it's cold. Yes, they should know better, but drunk people don't think rationally.

ParmaVioletTea · 13/05/2026 12:35

If it's a Channel crossing, from what I understand, it's rare that women go on the boats from France, and when they do they are pushed to the back / bottom, where the risk of being crushed is high.

I always wonder where the women are, in all the headlines about illegal migrants being mostly men aged 16 -30.

I think many many women are trafficked - but for sex and are prostituted. THey never even make it to the camps on the French coast.

And yet, those women are more likely to be truly in need of asylum than the young men (who seem to be mostly economic migrants).

InFreeFall · 13/05/2026 12:38

that went into anti migrant mode remarkably quickly.

My thoughts are with those poor women.

Ilovemsrachel · 13/05/2026 12:39

I don’t care if they’re migrants or not. They are human beings and they were loved by someone, and they are dead. It’s tragic regardless of where they were born.

It's May, the sea is still very old. Noone would go swimming without a wetsuit.

Actually lots of people do including me,

i don’t swim at Brighton though.

catipuss · 13/05/2026 12:41

I would have assumed early morning swimmers.

Lunde · 13/05/2026 12:42

From the DM reports it sounds like some sort of alarm was raised
"Sussex Police was called at around 5.45am today following concerns for the welfare of the trio."

From all the emphasis on the terrible conditions for swimming today I think it is likely to be some sort of swimming accident - either sea swimming gone wrong or a drunken dip.

You should see the group of women who go swimming everyday in my small town near Aberdeen! Not a wetsuit in sight since about March.

Lorrymum · 13/05/2026 12:42

So very sad for these women and their families.

Restlessdreams1994 · 13/05/2026 12:43

Highly unlikely to be migrants at Brighton.

Most likely it will have been people swimming, either drunk after a night out and fancied a dip or regular sea swimmers who got into difficulty. The sea is a lot colder than people think this time of year and there’s strong currents in that area.

catmothertes1 · 13/05/2026 12:44

catipuss · 13/05/2026 12:41

Me too. No idea where all those comments about migration came from in this context.

FernandoSor · 13/05/2026 12:45

Police are appealing for CCTV from homes and businesses.

Spare a thought for the real victims here: all those who were desperate for the women to be small boat migrants.

My local women's wild swimming group are called The Blue Tits 🤣

Or male, for that matter.

Three people have lost their lives. Someone has lost a family member or a friend, whether male or female, (or from another country).

Very sad for everyone concerned.

If they get such an amazing deal, why don’t you jump on the ferry, destroy your passport and get on a dinghy?
Or do you know deep down it isn’t true?
