@RedTagAlan yep. You're right of course. I still find it hard to grasp what the inside of his head and his soul must actually be like.

Here's an alarming substack article about the imminent collapse of, well, pretty much everything.
I haven't read it all yet so I'm sharing it a bit prematurely, but I think it's a useful contribution if stark.
I do thank you all for being here because somehow being able to be honest about how grim it all is helps.
markashryock.substack.com/p/eight-weeks-to-empty-shelves-sixty?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=2fbhog&triedRedirect=true

That is alarming- I hope someone will be along to advise on the information in here and how accurate it is.

I know the Strait carries 20% of oil - so won’t the other 80% help? I know this is a naive question but I’m not fully sure how losing 20% kills everything? Obviously, still short to cover normal things we are used to but surely some stuff is still left? If that makes sense!

Obviously I wish the old orange fool had left well alone or would wrap up now - abhorrent how the whole world is dependent on his whims and what Netanyahu / Putin / Donald fucking Duck tells him at a certain astute point.

I am just guessing about what drives Rubio. I get the impression he really does believe the evangelical stuff. Occam's razor and that.

His soul ? No Idea. I am atheist so don't believe in it.

I do firmly think though that deep and devoted theism does alter logic handling though. Because of the mental gymnastics needed to cancel out the contradictions etc in whatever sacred text. And it certainly appears that Rubio is a Young Earth Creationist. He is not a red letter Christian. He quotes the OT.

Imagine the logical convolutions needed to be a YEC. That must affect the wiring ? I had a thread on it on here a while back. Interesting stuff.

Oh, I totally agree with freedom of religion and all that. But at that level of government, I ain't so sure.

I do not have the answer. Either the cascade was not modeled correctly by anyone, which is itself an indictment of every intelligence agency and energy ministry on the planet. Or it was modeled and the geopolitical momentum could not be stopped. Or leadership in every capital made a calculation that this was acceptable risk.

Not hard to guess which one that is. Trump has pretty much said so out loud.

Depressing evaluation of the current state of Cuba in the World at One on R4. Sorry I can't find a link that seems to cover it and it was only a short item but really dire, a conjuring up of a population living in the dark ages now with little power, food running out, hospitals limping along, no fuel. Just horrible. And Rubio totally unrepentant apparently. I don't understand what it must be like to be so brutal, even if you think you're right does a person like that still not for a moment consider the suffering of the ordinary helpless people and think there must be another way to go about achieving his aims?
I know I'm just bleating into the wilderness.

It's callousness to the very core. I'm surprised it's legit.

Simplistically, if you needed 25l of petrol to get to work and back, 5 days a week and you were only able to obtain 20l, you would have a day a week when you would be unable to commute. A supermarket that sells 10,000 items a week may only be able to have 8000 items delivered to the store...

It's not even though is it?. It's not a 20% drop for all. India is being hit hard because it is reliant on Gulf oil and gas.

Helium stocks will be out soon though. I think 50% supply of that is gone.

That's why I said simplistically as in, it's not like the mumsnet chicken, lasting a family of 4 a whole week of you're frugal enough with it. If there's not enough, there's not enough.

For sure. Aviation fuel seems to be worst hit.

And plastic prices are going up with oil too.

I have followed Rubio for many years now, and he really really hates Communism.

That sort of frothing at the mouth hatred dating from the Joe McCarthy time. No objectivity, just hates it.

Now, I am not keen on communism. And for a while I did sort of respect his position, but wow, that respect vanished when I started to see how irrational his hatred of it is. Likes of Ian Duncan Smith is much more balanced and worthy of respect on that issue than Rubio is.

When I had Twitter, I followed him and he would post Bible verses every day. I am sure he is old school evangelical. Communism is atheist so is therefore the devil.

My guess is he looks upon the suffering of the people as him trying to save their souls. Mother Teresa style. And I can't find what he said on the subject of the death sentence (he is blocked where I am), but I recall that he is in the school that says the death sentence is good because the condemned nearly all find God and repent while on death row. So, executing them is saving them.

It's alarming that a number of political commentators seem to believe that Rubio is the only 'real' politician in Trump's administration and somehow worthy of a modicum of respect if he's that controlled by his religion.

I don't for one minute believe JD Vance truly 'believes'. It's just the coat he's wearing now.

Yep, I need to pull my finger out and replace my washing machine that's on its last legs. There's no dabbing the muck off DS2's stuff to make it last another day.

Spandauer · 20/05/2026 17:24

Genuine question.
(Please note I don't have any stats! )

The deniers/flat earthers etc always seem to be 'Christian' if they have a religion. Do other religions have a similar number of believers who deny stuff like this?

A man at the Capitol accused the Artemis astronauts of lying about going to space.

Plus it will negatively affect pot hole repairs on the roads. Asphalt needs bitumen, which needs oil, which mostly needs the straits clear. I certainly know whose "as" needs "phalting" right now. 😡

I can answer a tiny bit. China does not have flat earthers or moon landing deniers. Because the Party are really big on the space race thing, and both of those conspiracies would be against the party.

But conspiracists need something. So they do "history is fake" stuff.

That western history is all new. The pyramids were built by Napolean, Stonehenge was constructed in the 1930's, and the whole out of Africa is a western invention. China done it all, and the west copied it all in the last few hundred years.

The Party lets that one go.

Thos is reminiscent of the Soviet propaganda we saw in the ddr museum.

Regarding Cuba and Rubio- something history teaches is that when you understand that another human being is not equal to you, that they are somehow lesser then they become subhuman. Less than human, and when a person is not human then you can do what you like to them with a clear conscience.

This fits with the fundamentalism of extreme religion.

You see this happening with ice agents, chasing down subhumans, containing them in inhumane conditions, making money from people suffering because they are lesser, they are subhuman.

Rubio sold his dignity and his integrity to Trump in exchange for a position in the government.

As such, nothing he says or does can be considered anything other than the leaders wish.

So in a way - who cares what he says.

He is a dog fetching.

Agree re Vance.

Re Rubio. I can't look him up here. But I am positive he is a full on fundamentalist. An Armageddon clock watcher. A raptureist.

So here comes those awful words that should be banned from this sacred place... " do some research.. google it".

Gulp. Got a cold sweat after typing that :-)

But honestly, I can't, because he is banned here. If I could I would present loads of evidence towards my case.

I mean, I feel like I'm living a double life at the moment because my younger dd is about to have baby 2 AND move house and I'm desperately worried both specifically for her and her family because that's massive life stuff to do both of those things at once but also I've got 'and is the shit hitting the fan globally at the same time?' running in my head all the time, but I'm not voicing any of this to her because she's in a blissed out pregnancy bubble. Jeez I know we've all got our people to worry about but I'm finding it very hard.

Ach. You can do what you need to do and take the whole Turd thing off your shoulders surely. There are billions of other shoulders to take that weight at the moment.

There is at least a dozen here anyway.

Rubio is a mix and match religious mess it seems.

2 articles from 2016:
Rubio has perhaps the most unusual personal religious story of anyone on the campaign trail. Given the audience, this might have been an opportunity for evasion, or to cherrypick parts of his “faith journey” that would appeal most to evangelicals. Instead, Rubio launched into a virtuoso, 10-minute-long, let-me-at-it telling of his circuitous faith—Catholicism to Mormonism back to Catholicism to a Southern Baptist Convention-affiliated evangelical megachurch and finally back to Catholicism—as well as passionate and particular evidence of the depth of his knowledge of the Bible. “Now I sound like the preacher,” a smiling Rubio said toward the end.
