We are a kind and welcoming group supporting each other in our daily tasks to organize and declutter and stay on top of all that needs doing. We share our accomplishments and brain dump our to-do lists in a friendly chat over coffee manner. 😊☕️

That orange cake sounds quite lovely Peridot! Hope you managed Bedfordshire before company. 🙂

Very windy here, 35km/h wind whipping by atm with leaves blowing by sideways.
Havics class is off on a field trip out walking all morning. Glad I packed rain gear to keep warm.

Sounds like we could be sisters @WintersFrog … except I have a brother!

I enjoy strength training 100% more than I thought I would. It was a NY resolution for last year. I’d found Pilates boring and thought I’d give it a go.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 10/10/2026 09:16

I think I ought to look into strength training.

I'm out and about a bit today as have friends staying in our village and we will take them some places. Before that though I need to carry on with some garden clearing.

Best woshes to everyone!

I have brothers too. I'm the only daughter and get landed with all the caring duties despite my efforts to offload some of them. I am quite fond of them but I do mutter rude words occasionally.

It's astonished me just how much I look forward to and enjoy the classes. Interesting that you feel the same 🏋️‍♀️

Finally took 4 bags to charity shop 🙌 Does anyone else guiltily leave the shop hoping that they won't run after you, shouting "we don't want this cr*p"?!

It was actually all good stuff just no longer needed.

So good to get it out of the car

@BerfyTigot yes! If in doubt I take it to the Sense one as they don't look in the bags. All the others ask. In my defence I am not a monster and don't take jumble sale kind of stuff.
There is just some stuff that nobody seems to want. Dvds and cds. Mum had loads and they are in boxes on the spare bed as I cant bring myself to bin them. Only a few scanned as wanted on the Magpie app 😔
This is why I don't buy things.

Hello @mumofoneisonozempic 💕 I'm loving the weather too!

WintersFrog · 10/10/2026 17:13

Hello everyone else! This week went by so fast. I was working this morning and this afternoon I fell asleep reading. Still a bit groggy now 🥱
I hope you are all having a lovely weekend 😘

petalpower · 10/10/2026 18:07

I like the idea of Operation Make Things Nicer too @FourSeasonsLobelia ! A bit of that going on here with a chair away to be recovered, new bedroom curtain fabric chosen and other plans afoot. DH goes away for over two weeks tomorrow and I have plans to get things done whilst he’s away. Had my flu job this morning as I’m an at risk group because of a long term health issue but was told they were only giving Covid vaccinations to people over 75 or those having chemo.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 10/10/2026 21:12

Our kitchen is finished! Only took like six weeks instead of the promised three (but that was always unrealistic tbh). Now the fun part of deciding how to organise the new storage spaces!!

Oh recovering chairs and new bedroom stuff sounds very nice!

Today I am going to hunt out some pots with the aim to repurpose them and put in new plants. I seem to be on a never-ending battle with our front garden that just always looks awful.

WintersFrog · 11/10/2026 08:21

@petalpower sounds lovely! Years ago my parents had some very ancient chairs reupholstered and recovered, and mum now has two of them in her room which is making it feel more like home. There is a third which I'm contemplating bringing home but it really needs re-recovering.

Every year DH gets a summons for covid jab, every year he books appointment on that basis, and every year he has to get out his medical records to prove he's eligible because the vaccinators don't believe him. It's a good thing most of us have the nhs app in our pocket. If I get it ( mainly to protect him) I have to pay. I just wandered into the pharmacy for the flu one and they gave it to me on the nhs's dime as I live with someone vulnerable ( he does not look vulnerable, he's a strapping six footer!) which I did not expect.

I find your garden posts quite inspiring @FourSeasonsLobelia. You give meaning to the art of just doing a bit here and there 💕 As a result I have various pots filled with things that grow, inside and outside. I might have a bit of a clearing session along a 10' fence line today. Have fun with your pots 😊

I have two admin jobs re mother which i have that ridiculous 'it's too hard' feeling about, so today's small project is to get the company websites up and find phone numbers, and jot down what I need to ask, and then call them tomorrow. All at once is apparently too hard and I've had that pit in my belly over it all week. My youngest, who is half my age, offered to help and that galvanised me, as I should not be relying on offspring just yet 😳

Congrats on the kitchen @SingleThreadJoiner2 Have fun organising it! At work we have had contractors take three weeks to not quite finish a job they promised us would take three days so i feel your pain!

@Mumtobabyhavoc I hope Havoc enjoyed the field trip and didn't get cold and wet. And I hope you are tucked up in bed fast asleep. I'm off to the gym so I'll either put my back out ( I still fear that so still going easy on the weight) or I'll come back feeling mighty and sort out that admin...

Happy Sunday all ☕️ 🍰 🏋️‍♀️

Ed because apparently I can't spell various on a Sunday morning

Peridot1 · 11/10/2026 08:44

Good morning all.

I am having flu jab on Saturday. On the NHS due to having breast cancer a few years ago. Don’t get offered the covid one now and to be honest probably wouldn’t have it. Not anti it but we definitely think there is a link with Covid and the vaccines to my sister’s autoimmune issues which led to her needing a new liver. There are auto immune issues running through the family so I am slightly worried we might be more susceptible to possible issues. I’m not scientific enough to understand more but that’s my feeling right now. If I was told I definitely needed a Covid jab I would have a conversation with a professional but I’m steering clear for now.

New chair covering and bedroom curtains and Project Making Things Look Nice and new kitchens finished all sounds lovely. I am doing nothing more in that direction this year as feel I’ve done enough for now. And spent enough money….. Next year will do my bedroom though.

Village tidy up this morning and I have a Very Important Job - I am in charge of the litter pickers. About to hunt out some gardening gloves and head out to boss people around. Men are doing manly cutting back and clearing ditches. Then we meet for bacon sandwiches and coffee at someone’s house.

Have a lovely Sunday all.

Aria999 · 11/10/2026 13:38

Happy Sunday!

I briefly considered persuading the kids to take the bikes out today before realizing it's chucking it down out there and there's a flood watch in effect! Clearly I was starting to take the perfect autumn weather for granted.

new plan is to go and shop for Halloween costumes, a furry blanket for DS as he keeps hoiking his duvet round the house, and a new door mat for the back door as I had to throw the other one away after it started slipping out from under foot when stepped on.

so far the cellar floor is dry, fingers crossed. We had a nasty sewer backup from a blocked pipe in the last flood. After which I spent a week doing a serious amount of bleaching, a lot of throwing stuff out that had been on the floor, and a big cellar rearrangement.

WintersFrog · 11/10/2026 17:16

I've been reading a thread about the possibility of sewer back up if there are floods or long term power outage @Aria999 Sounds nasty. Not surprised at your response!

Been lovely here today. Windy yesterday but it settled.

Ah village life @Peridot1 💕 We are not in a village but occasionally we see people out litter picking. Hope you enjoyed the well deserved bacon sandwich!

I did not put my back out at the gym but still have not gathered enough motivation for garden or the admin. And it's cheese toasties and tomato soup ( heinz of course!) for tea on account of I never did make it back to Tesco. It's unfortunate that my current book is so good, and also we have done some work errands ( and on a Sunday!) and we're binge watching the entire Strike series after I enjoyed the first novel recently.

I expect I'll get a fit of enthusiasm ( or willpower) and find those damn numbers but the garden will have to wait another day.

@Peridot1 I think I feel much the same about the covid jab as you do, and even DH is not all that convinced about booking his.

Nearly Monday already!

FourSeasonsLobelia · 11/10/2026 19:28

Hi all,

Re covid jab. Well, I had all the jabs plus extras due to DS1s vlnerabilities and covid twice. I have developed serious auto immune stuff since then, and definitely think it's down to covid- whether or not the actual virus or the jabs I cannot say. But I'm a much different and more ill person in the past 5 years.

I am in sulking mode and have taken myself off to bed with a cup of tea and chocolate buttons and wine gums. DH has been out all day and the Dcs have been a nightmare and I just grew tired of being both punching bag and referee. So DH is now cooking them pizza and I am watching netflix. I'm on strike. But also secretly very glad to have DH around who knows that when I have had enough he just steps in and takes over without complaint. It doesnt happen often- perhaps three times in the past ten years, but I can't gird my loins to struggle through tonight.

I'll be back on form tomorrow no doubt.

Love to everyone. Thanks

petalpower · 11/10/2026 22:46

Our village litter pick is in the spring @Peridot1 . Very similar sounding except the bacon sandwiches are at the beginning!
Feeling a bit odd as DH has gone away for 2.5 weeks to somewhere I definitely wouldn’t want to go but it’s very long haul. We haven’t been apart this long for nearly 30 years. I’m quite independent and will be fine but it’s strange. The adult DC are here on and off and Petaldog will be in attendance. I’ve got a big list of things to accomplish in his absence and have lots of social things planned but still feel strange.
My sore arm from the flu jab has settled down well and I wouldn’t know I’d had it which is good!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/10/2026 23:27

My opinion on Covid is that it messes with your body, maybe not everyone, but I know of many people claiming "long covid" symptoms. I found when I've been sick with covid I get intensely achey that lasts for ages afterward. So, for me, I'll take the vaccine every time to lessen the virus should I get it - and I've had covid several times.

So, gorgeous day here. Took the kids to SFU Friday night to the observatory, last night to the beach to play and catch sunset and for a mini train ride and forest walk today.

Tomorrow is a holiday, Thanksgiving, which dates back to 1578 here. Traditional dinner is roasted turkey, dressing/stuffing, gravy cranberry sauce, potatoes, sprouts and pumpkin or apple pie.

I think I'm making salmon with sun-dried tomatoes and feta and garlic prawns and will likely serve with spaghetti finished in cream with chopped kale tossed in and topped with a sprinkle of a finely minced hot pepper from the garden; OR lamb chops with sun-dried tomatoes and feta with the pasta. 🤔 I've got corn on the cob, asparagus and cauliflower for veg; sourdough baguettes and a tuxedo cake for dessert. No alcohol here, but I've got two flavours of Perrier and the kids love that.

Sending a hug and support all around. The struggle is real. 💛💛💛

Hugs @FourSeasonsLobelia hooray for your DH!

yes I agree @Mumtobabyhavoc I am quite scared of actual Covid , and pretty relaxed about the vaccine. I have had Covid twice while vaccinated but quite mildly, and I find long covid a very alarming prospect.

WideOpenBeaches · 12/10/2026 07:41

Bravo @Peridot1 on your village clean up. I have to admit that I swerve doing that here. I feel that my volunteering elsewhere in the village lets me ‘off’… in my head anyway!

I hope you’re feeling a bit better this morning @FourSeasonsLobelia I remember that feeling well. Glad your DH reads the signs and steps up. He sounds like a good man.

That sounds like a delicious spread @Mumtobabyhavoc. I think I’m going off piste for my Christmas menu this year too. Loved your pics of Burnaby too.

I’ve been away this weekend in N Yorkshire on the moors staying with old friends.
I went up and stayed overnight but came back in one go yesterday.
6 hours drive was a bit of a killer. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Had a lot of fun mixing with the upper echelons of Yorkshire society. Big houses, big jewellery and moth eaten jumpers you could use as a colander.

All really lovely and interesting people.

Have a great week everyone.

Peridot1 · 12/10/2026 08:11

@FourSeasonsLobelia - I think it’s possibly a combination or having Covid plus the extra load of the vaccines on top put some people’s immune systems under stress. Sorry to hear you still have issues.

Also sorry you had a crappy day with DCs. Happens to us all. Also been meaning to ask how your mum is doing?

@Mumtobabyhavoc - Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃. Your menus sound delicious!

@WintersFrog - your tea sounded lovely! Love cheese on toast and tomato soup.

Litter pick went well. Picked up so much. Lots of overgrowth was cut back and ditches cleared. Bacon sandwich was good as was the breakfast focaccia my neighbour makes.

@WideOpenBeaches - volunteering for anything lets you off I think. Some people never do ours. It’s normally a core usual group. And people come along if they can one time but not the next. It’s all good.

@petalpower - id love if DH was away for that long! 😄. What that says about our marriage I don’t know! Well I do but that’s where we are! He enjoys when I’m away too.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/10/2026 08:40

Everyone's welcome to pop by. 💛

I'm still awake, rattled by the fire department at my neighbour's earlier this evening after they fell asleep or something with a pot on the stove. There was a lot of smoke and they were taken to hospital, but luckily no actual fire. Fire is one of my major fears.

I managed to get a large load of the kids' laundry washed and hung up, but still need to do a general tidy, vacuum, wash floors and clean the bathroom tomorrow. I've got a friend joining up for dinner tomorrow, so need things presentable!

Beaches, I like your use of "going off piste" in reference to diverging from making a traditional holiday meal. I've been going off piste for a few years and quite enjoy it. Ice cream sundaes with a variety of toppings to customize your own is our somewhat recent Christmas dessert tradition now. 😄

Oh that sounds like a fantastic weekend! Like out of a book! Glad you enjoyed.

Thanks, DH is very good. He's a bit rubbish at being pro active himself, but when I make it very clear I am struggling he is there for me. He's just suggested that when his next payment comes in from the consultancy I did I go away overnight with two friends I sometimes go away with. We have each other's back which is a blessing.

I feel much better today though as predicted. And recalled that when we are in York it might be snowing which cheered me up tremendously. DCs went off to school without a complaint. I was feeling guilty but actually I am sure it does them good to remember parents are people with feelings too.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 12/10/2026 11:38

Thanks @Peridot1 my mother is doing amazingly well! A complete new lease of life. She and my dad are going away for two weeks to Port Douglas and Cairns at the end of this week and she wants to go whale watching if the whales are about. They can't fly long haul any more, but it's a 4-ish hour flight from where they are so she is hopeful she can cope.

I always think your meals sound just lovely @Mumtobabyhavoc . And all the activities you do with your DCs- they are very fortunate children!!

Love to all. Thanks

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/10/2026 16:55

Lobelia, such nice news about your mum! 🩷

I definitely like to keep the kids busy and expose them to different experiences. The challenge is finding low cost or free things to do!
