Loving the sound of your trip out and all that you achieved @Peridot1 ! The highlight of my trip out today was buying a new nail brush !!

Peridot1 · 06/10/2026 21:14

That’s gorgeous @FourSeasonsLobelia. Now where could I put one of those???? 🤔

Is a nail brush more or less exciting than a new mop @petalpower? Close call I think.

petalpower · 06/10/2026 22:11

I think it depends how flashy your mop is @Peridot1 . The nail brush is just a bog standard wooden one.

WideOpenBeaches · 07/10/2026 07:41

Hello you lot 🥰 and a special HELLO to @WinterFrogs and @Mumtobabyhavoc

Im sorry I’ve been MIA but I’m absolutely fine… thank you for asking and checking on me.

Im struggling with the fact that I appear to have 2 accounts on MN under different names and different email accounts. This one ^^ is on my phone and the other on my iPad. I really need to just cancel one!

Cant remember when I last posted, but I’ve moved into a new erm…decade. Taking on more responsibilities for DM who’s still fit and feisty at 85 but losing confidence with money and has pretty much hung up her keys to the car. That has meant a lot more driving for me.

I’ve wrestled with shingles (4th time 🙄) but still dancing and strength training twice a week and doing my DA volunteering.

Im presently helping run a 5-6 session course called The Freedom Programme for post DA survivors. It’s a tough gig for 6 weeks and I have to go home and watch Escape to The Country with a mug of tea afterwards. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

We deal with all the red flags that pop up in the hope it furnishes them with better warning signs for new relationships they’ll go into.

We have a good group of girls this time who seem to have gelled together and have a WApp group set up, but some of the disclosures are heartbreaking to hear… hence my need to zone out afterwards.

I’ve not caught up on the posts for ages so bear with me while I do that, and see what you’ve all been up to.

Meanwhile I need to make a list of stuff to do so I can become accountable. It makes a big difference to me!

Peridot1 · 07/10/2026 08:58

@petalpower - similar level of ordinariness. Basic flat head mop. Had to buy whole new mop as Vileda have discontinued doing flat mop heads so had to buy Addis. Bought an extra head for it too in case they discontinue flat head mops.

@WideOpenBeaches - that does sound very draining. Not surprised you need to decompress afterwards.

Miserable wet morning here. Ugh.

Need to get going in a minute. Cleaner is coming at 9.30 so need to make sure bathrooms are ok for her to clean. Then she will deep clean the living room so need a quick tidy of that too. I have a PT session at 10.

need to do usual dishwasher/kitchen and laundry. And want to get a start on the linen cupboard. And my bedroom which is an untidy mess. And I want to start switching out summer for winter clothes.

Have a great day all.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 07/10/2026 10:43

Loads on your plate @WideOpenBeaches . I hope the shingles has passed properly. Thanks

Rain here too. I'm 'at home' all day today which is a nice change. So tidying, washing, plus some youtube on the agenda. I have developed a habit of watching you tube videos about cleaning as a substitue for cleaning.

Love to all. Thanks

FourSeasonsLobelia · 07/10/2026 13:23

I’m currently in the laundromat waiting for the last of some drying. It’s next door to my fifth favourite pub so no hardship!

tomorrow my daily project is to replace our old shower caddies with new ones. It’s overdue.

WintersFrog · 07/10/2026 13:52

That rose is beautiful! I could not be trusted with such a lovely thing as it would take over my house and garden, if my clematis and brambles are anything to go by. I dream of a lovely cottage garden but I'm safest with things in pots as they can't go mad.

And if anybody is feeling threatened by the magnificence on this thread, I will make it real and fess up to going to tescos minus shopping list, bags and reading glasses. Accidentally. So i got enough for tonights dinner, plus grapes, and will try again tomorrow.

Lovely to see you @WideOpenBeaches 💕

I've run out of boxes so i have bags of books cluttering up the lounge and I have lost the book selling mojo. These are my books I'm clearing, to make room for mother's.

But i have done a gym class and swum 12 lengths and got up to date with laundry and contacted a solicitor and made my first spreadsheet from scratch and dinner is prepped for later so it's not all bad!

Having a little sit down now 😊

Ed to say the books are going to charity shops now.

BerfyTigot · 07/10/2026 15:34

2 more bags for charity shop, but it's raining here and seems to be set in for the afternoon. Waaah!

I could probably find yet more books to go...

Peridot1 · 07/10/2026 15:44

You seem to have achieved quite a bit considering your Tesco experience @WintersFrog. I do that all the time. Have lost count of the times I’ve phoned DH to say I’ve forgotten the list and can he send it to me. Probably why he is obsessed with on line deliveries now to be fair….

That’s annoying @BerfyTigot. It’s not conducive to going out here either.

DH is using the afternoon to make tomato and chilli marmalade. He made tomato relish last week.

I started on sorting the linen cupboard which isn’t as bad as I feared so I should get that sorted this week.

Then I tried on some trousers and skirts as part of my organising my wardrobe project.

RunningKatie · 07/10/2026 18:02

I'm sitting at dc2's activity, sort of reading a book but also pinging on my phone.
Dc2 has made cake at school so things are looking up.
Builders should finish tomorrow, so only 4 days over schedule. I need to tidy stuff up so the cleaner can come on Fri but also booked onto ref pilates class.
The endless juggling is a bit much at times.

WintersFrog · 08/10/2026 07:25

Proper rain here as well yesterday.
The bags are out of the lounge and in the boot of my car.
I did clean the fridge before strolling out of the house with no shopping bags yesterday.

I shall keep bags in the car in future like a proper grown up.
Whilst clearing mum's house I came across her many lists, notes to herself and ways of making her life easier. She's very much a place for everything and everything in it's place kind of person. Her cupboards and drawers were rammed but she still knew where everything was, down to exactly where in the drawer it was. She's still doing it now bless her, in the care home. Being a war child will do that I imagine. Spares of everything.
Congratulations on the new decade @WideOpenBeaches 🥂 You have such a lot going on and once again I am very impressed with your work 💕
@RunningKatie family life is a lot sometimes, with work and builders and all!

I appear to be changing shape with the extra exercise and strength training. The biggest thing is that I no longer feel the need to rip my bra off when I step in the front door. I still look the same I think but clothes are fitting better and I have more energy. On that note I am off to do a marching kind of walk ( putting books and bags in car as I go past) before work at 9.30. I'm wondering if that classes as a petal errand?

Big love to you all on our lovely thread ☕️ 🍰

WideOpenBeaches · 08/10/2026 07:42

I didn’t know you did strength training @WintersFrog … or maybe I’ve forgotten! The latter is perfectly possible ☺️

I so enjoy it - much more than I thought I would- and am so happy to have discovered a local class that costs very little too. The joy I get in slinging my 10kg cabin bag up into the locker like a 20 something fills me with great pride.

Yesterday was spent taking DM to a local funeral. They don’t all half treat it as a jolly catch up and I’d not be surprised to discover that someone keeps some kind of score card for the hospitality at the wake.

i caught up with a few very old friends who I’d grown up with but we’re all dealing with remaining elderly parents in differing stages of old age.

DM is the sprightly one but she’s 5-8 years younger. This is the third time since May that we’ve seen each other, having not done so for 10+ years.

So I wish you all a happy, healthy and constructive day whatever that looks to you…☺️

Carpe Diem!

FourSeasonsLobelia · 08/10/2026 07:57

Morning all- loads achieved on here!

I have two charity shop bags to dump. I have decided to utilise the utterly useless paper M&S bags for that, rather than my nice and expensive other bags. (Our main charity shop has a volunteer who huffs and rolls her eyes if you ask for your bag back).

Today is the day of the Buying Shower Caddies. I also plan to clean the inside of the windows- a two day job I think .

FourSeasonsLobelia · 08/10/2026 18:28

Afternoon all and good morning @Aria999 and @Mumtobabyhavoc !

I bought a nice and large shower caddy. I also bought two deluxe bath sheets- I plan to gradually swap out our old raggedy ones. The old ones can go to the RSPCA who are always looking for old towels.

It's Operation Make Things Nicer here. Grin

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 08/10/2026 21:59

So a good thing that happened today is that the old tumble dryer was taken away and the new one put in without any obvious issues.

A less good thing that happened today is that we discovered that our boiler isn't talking to the thermostats and indeed the thermostats appear to be disconnected from the whole system - we assume it's something that happened when they were replacing the hot water system in August but for obvious reasons hadn't noticed until now. Hoping it's a straightforward fix...

Aria999 · 08/10/2026 22:40

Hello all!

that was ONE DAY @Mumtobabyhavoc? Sounds like at least 3 😁

very pretty roses. I don't do anything with the garden which is probably just as well as the deer would just eat it anyway.

work has slowed to a steady trickle but I am still playing perpetual catchup.

today I did some work , made a spreadsheet for DH , put on some much overdue laundry, and continued with my very out of date AI training course for CPD. Alongside a pleasant mild bitching session with ChatGPT about the obsolescence of said course.

just had my flu and Covid vaccines on Tuesday so still a bit sleepy.

not sure what my upcoming projects are, I need to look at the lists I made a while ago and have been ignoring ever since.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/10/2026 05:51

Ha ha @Aria999 writing everything down really shows how much we do in a day.
Today was more of the same, but chocolate cake was the reward. And I squeezed in 15 mins at the gym for a quick set for quads/hams/tris/back and I was done as my gym was near my med appt and I got parking validated. ✅
Patting myself on the back for that. 😄
Tomorrow will be busy, too, as Havoc has activity after school.
I better get to bed.
Night night thread friends. 💛

Morning all.

Rubbish nights sleep. Awake from around 3 to after 7 and then fell back to sleep to be woken just after 8 by guy starting on re-pointing the patio. A nap later would be good but not sure that will happen. Lots to do as we have friends over for dinner tonight. DH doing most of the cooking but I’m on dessert duty. Have oranges simmering for an orange cake.

Today’s list:

  • laundry - done - just need to hang it up to dry
  • dishwasher and kitchen
  • clean lights over island unit
  • make cake
  • make plum sauce to go with cake
  • tidy and vacuum and de-cobweb hallway
  • clean downstairs cloakroom

Have a great Friday all.

BerfyTigot · 09/10/2026 15:58

Finally took 4 bags to charity shop 🙌 Does anyone else guiltily leave the shop hoping that they won't run after you, shouting "we don't want this cr*p"?!

It was actually all good stuff just no longer needed.

So good to get it out of the car

WintersFrog · 09/10/2026 16:05

I love the sound of Operation Make Things Nicer @FourSeasonsLobelia!

@WideOpenBeaches I've always been active, but I stepped it up in August to do proper strength training classes. I joined because of all the talk about bone strength etc but I have surprised myself by really enjoying it. I'm swimming, cycling or walking in between. I'm beginning to feel the same prode as you 😊 I also have the same stuff going on with mother and meeting old friends at funerals!

I've had my flu jab too. Dh is immunosuppressed so it felt polite. I should probably get covid vaccination as this year's strain sounds quite nasty.

Have fun tonight @Peridot1 And I take my hat off as always to those of you with young families and all the other things life is throwing at you, and how you juggle it all.

I'm just resting my weary old bones for a bit after a work/ gym combo today, and dinner was scraped out of the freezer and is quietly thawing.

The place is looking a bit worse for wear as work involved people juggling with sickness and hols, so I will haul myself up in a bit and attempt to 'set fair'.

I don't really want to but poor old dh has worked all day and now at a hospital appointment so I should make the place vaguely welcoming for the weekend ( also I still haven't made it back to tesco and he cobbled a very nice meal together yesterday so fairs fair)

Hugs all round!

Yes I do feel like that @BerfyTigot ! I tried to do a charity shop run today but it's mainly bad chick lit (you know, the type you buy at Christmas time for £4 at the till at Asda) and I bottled it.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 09/10/2026 17:06

I really need to gird my loins for the flu and covid jabs too, @WinterFrogs .

I made a spare of the moment decision to book us in for a 4 day trip to York just before Christmas. I was pottling around Booking.com and thought 'Hmmm...... free cancellation until 6th December....... 10% off for members...... apartment with parking and kitchenette........ well, why yes I think so!'.

This has now been presented as a fait accompli to DH and DCs. I've already had a request from DS1 that we do a ghost tour, and that we don't do the train museum.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Aria999 · 09/10/2026 17:12

Yikes Christmas! York sounds lovely @FourSeasonsLobelia. I'm doing the thing where I book the flights, think 'phew that's done now', and leave it way too late to sort out the rest of it....

RunningKatie · 09/10/2026 17:28

Dd and I are going to York next year @FourSeasonsLobelia - we've agreed on Betty's Tea Rooms and maybe a walk on the city walls. It's been years since I've been so hoping it'll be lovely. Just the small challenge of her doing her GCSEs first.
Builders not been today or yesterday, so that's not great. Coming tomorrow, nothing like an early Saturday wake up for the teens.
I'm working on Sunday, getting the time back will be nice but I do need some down time too.
Happy Friday everyone!
