Golf course. Scotland.

How Trump's loathing for wind turbines started with a Scottish court battle.

You’re probably right. He doesn’t like to be crossed. However I’ve just watched him answering journalists’ questions on the plane back from China. He stood for over half an hour and answered every question. It was quite remarkable even though his answers were probably nonsense. Poor old Keir doesn’t have this ability. Unfortunately politics are not just about policies.

DuncinToffee · 15/05/2026 13:56

Oh hi @derxa , hope all is well with your sheep?

We’ve had a brilliant lambing and very few deaths despite the constant rain earlier in the year. We’re gearing up for the Highland Show.

BestIsWest · 15/05/2026 14:11

The Royal Mint have painted their windmills green and yellow to look like daffodils. If I was running for the Senedd it would be top of my manifesto to paint all windmills to look like daffodils.

derxa · 15/05/2026 13:49

They kill birds, drive sheep insane, are totally unsightly and can’t be recycled. Is that enough for you.

Paint one blade black and reduce bird deaths by 70%.

Plenty of places to put them where they don't scare sheep.

Unsightliness is a matter of opinion. I think they look great in our flat boring landscape.

We need renewable energy.

Most of a wind turbine can be recycled. Work is being done to recycle the blades, so that part of your argument is nonsense.

I pass a whole bank of them on the way back from England. They are hideous. I don’t see many here in lovely Hertfordshire.

Notonthestairs · 15/05/2026 14:36

Onshore turbines are built in windy areas to maximise yields - common sense.

Ummm might be to do with the strength of prevailing winds.....

Hertfordshire has the M25, M1, M11, A1M...... not so lovely.

I'll stick with Wind Turbines

Keir doesn't call journalists rude names like "piggy" either.

... also many out at sea, where there aren't many sheep. (As far as I know)

Wow, really? I didn’t know that!
Pretty much everything scares sheep. Except Herdwicks, they are tough nuts. I expect future generations of sheep brought up near existing wind turbines would be more laid back. Obviously if you stick a new structure up where a flock currently is then much sheep consternation would ensue. But we have to start somewhere and turbines are hell of a lot better than nuclear power stations.

countrygirl99 · 15/05/2026 15:35

Hertfordshire has Stevenage. That's definitely not lovely, wind turbines much nicer. I should know, I was born there.

pointythings · 15/05/2026 15:44

Lots of turbines where I am in East Anglia. They bring something sculptural to a fairly featureless landscape that is really lacking in verticals. There's a section north of Ely where you get the river, turbines, a dramatic sky with sun and dark clouds. It's stunning. Same when you cross the Afsluitdijk in the Netherlands, where there's a wind farm in the Ijsselmeer. Spectacular.

But then I like abstract art too, and it's ultimately a matter of taste.

But we need renewable energy. Nimbyism about wind and solar is shortsighted.

BestIsWest · 15/05/2026 16:08

I can see some from my house on the mountain in the distance (it’s not really a mountain!). I’ve grown quite fond of them.

I’ve calmed down somewhat from my fury at Labour yesterday. Just listened to The Rest Is Politics and I think Alistair and I are firmly on the same page.

@pointythings there are places in the Fens where they at least give you something to look at! They are the only point of note on the way to my mum's house. Not far from Ely.

Interesting! So Reform want a straight vote between Labour and themselves. If that should come to pass I’m not sure the result would be what they are expecting.

Saucery · 15/05/2026 17:51

Rosindell has obviously bought into the whole Game Of Thrones bollocks there.

There's parts of East Yorkshire like that. Big sky but nothing to see.

That would infuriate Kemi.

I suspect a fair percentage of the motivation for saying that is purely to piss Kemi off Grin
