A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I’ve just read Phillips’s resignation letter. It’s unusual because it doesn’t just deal in generalities. It blames Starmer for specific and identified inaction and bad judgement.

Emotions and disgust with Starmer are running high.

Someone made the point on the news earlier that Labour has become so factionalised if there is a new leader they will probably be toppled before the next GE. The left of the party don't want streeting and I suspect much of the red wall don't want the party to veer too left.

No more pyschodrama.

Yep. They're already squaring up. What a mess.
As a pp said, they hate each other.

To be honest, I’m surprised that Jess Phillips didn’t resign earlier in the week when KS brought Harriet Harman in.

What's interesting is this open descent but look how tight trumps team seem to be.
Disclaimer: I'm not saying I do or don't like trump or even if it's good thing but his team always refers back to him in glowing terms

That’s because they’re scared of him and the MAGA crowd. Right now he still wields power in the GOP and with the Midterms coming no one wants to piss him off. They’ll start to break with him not long after November, he’s already playing Vance and Rubio off against each other in terms of who he will give his backing to.

They both know that his policies are unpopular with the majority so they’ll need to distance themselves if they don’t want to get tagged as more of the same.

Very good article from William Hague:

Victims minister Alex Davies Jones now resigned.

US Inflation is accelerating.

Stagflation is heading for the UK - the economy will do for Labour.

I suspect that’s a sign of inflation of the government payroll. Governments (all of them) love having more ministers because that keeps MPs close and less likely to rebel or be troublesome.

This sounds like one of those Mickey Mouse ministerial jobs that offers a title and a bump in salary, but no benefit to the country.

I honestly don't know how Tony Blair handled the rabid left so successfully for so long.

Did for Callaghan. Does no-one read bloody history.

It may be par for the course in situations like this with PMs in trouble, but it’s not doing Starmer any favours to be holed up in Downing St and not showing his face. It makes him seem cowardly.

The Times is saying that there are many more resignations to come today.

Refusing to speak to the cabinet after saying see me individually then buggering off without doing that seems somewhat untenable.

Indeed. It’s insulting.

FatEndoftheWedge · 12/05/2026 14:57

Daily mail has excellent pic of Mahmood and cooper doing sad faces

FatEndoftheWedge · 12/05/2026 14:58

It sounds very immature to me, especially from the "grown ups"

He didn't hold the cabinet meeting. Really?

He also 'can't' make time to speak to the backbench committee according to the BBC.

Cabinet met, but Starmer said that any members who wanted to talk to him about his position would have to meet him individually. After the meeting he refused to see any cabinet members individually.

Karl Turner said he treated PLP with contempt and that’s being returned. Welcome to the electorate pretty much (bar loyal).

She’d be my pick. I don’t know whether she could keep the party from completely fracturing though. I don’t know how she’s regarded by the left.

The Labour Party have a pretty serious woman problem.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 12/05/2026 15:46

100 MPs have signed a letter of support for Starmer. And they’ve all remained anonymous!
