A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I’ve said on here that I thought Starmer blocking Burnham was awful judgement and a grave mistake. I thought it would just store up problems for Starmer. But the way it’s played out it’s not only done that but it’s also setting the scene for a massive factional scrap within Labour.

Starmer is an absolutely terrible strategist and planner. Hopeless.

I think it was wrong in principle to block him. Other members of the Labour leadership seemed to be very patronising and almost patting him on the head telling him he couldn’t join their club as he needed to finish his term as Mayor.

SionnachRuadh · 11/05/2026 19:27

Patrick Maguire saying the wording of the PPS resignations implies coordination between Burnham and Streeting camps.

I'm sure they have their differences, but surely all Labourites can unite behind the common goal of getting rid of this useless pillock.

That’s certainly true. Starmer also looked frightened and vindictive. The excuse - about the cost of a mayoral election - was pathetic and unbelievable.

redange · 11/05/2026 19:46

Come on Starmer for once in your life do you something right for the good of the Country and call a General Election !

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 11/05/2026 19:51

There’s really no need or warrant for a GE.

I'm not sure I understand that. Why would Streeting and Burnham coordinate?

He's also saying another half dozen PPSs resigning this evening.

Wes, 💩 or get off the pot.

Yeah, there’d be no logic or purpose in Burnham and Streeting acting together. Burnham would be locking himself out for good.

I don't know if he would. Maybe they'll have a Blair / Brown agreement.

Ultimately, without a fucking miracle, Labour are toast next GE. So why not say that Streeting is PM until they lose, then Burnham takes over as leader to be the - he hopes - white knight to save them in time for the next GE.

Changing the subject: Matt tomorrow is funny!

The Stop The Wes Coalition is a big chunk of the PLP, but I think factionally it's very messy at the moment, and whoever takes over will have to have a broad base.

Following on from my comment about picking up news without really looking at it...

Every little thing he does is tragic
Everything he does just puts me off
Even though the country wasn’t magic
Now I know the shift to left goes on

They resolved to call him up
60 calls today
And ask him if he’ll quit the game
In the old-fashioned way

And their silent fears they grip them
Even while they’re on the phone
Yes they know that Gorton tripped them
Cos the Greens they won Dentonnnnn

Every little thing they do is tragic
Any candidate will be a flop
Maybe then my life before was magic?
Now we watch the mania go on …

Nuthatch26 · 11/05/2026 20:07

PPS to David Lammy has resigned. That's 4.

Possible, certainly. But I can’t see what’s in it for either of them. And they must surely recall the tension between Blair and Brown. Brown accused Blair of treachery for years.

Interesting quote from an unknown MP on TwiX: https://x.com/jessicaelgot/status/2053829321135919324?s=46

It won't be my MP, as he's too fucking useless to know that others are also!

Accurate. What a mess they are.

Taking it in turns to achieve their ambition? 🤷‍♀️

Brown possibly wasn't wrong...I imagine Cherie may have had a hand in that though.

boyleslaw · 11/05/2026 20:33

The damage was done straight after Starmer was elected. Freebies, winter fuel, Reeves’s ridiculous tax rises which are completely anti-growth.Rayner’s tax affairs, Starmer not answering questions at PMQs. Constant resets. There are so many examples. And then last Friday’s results and Starmer’s reaction since then.Harriet Harperson and Gordon Brown at Downing Street on Saturday ? WTF. Are we all supposed to think that Labour has suddenly got a grip after he appointed these two dinosaurs to paid sinecures? Today’s speech was pure sound bites. Starmer is deluded. He’s not offering anything at all. Keep the resignations coming…

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 11/05/2026 20:36

They are bloody useless.

Always putting the carriage in front of the horse.

Fucking net zero but concreting every bit of green.

Building and letting the population boom with no thought about water and sewage.

Taxing to fuck anyone who contributes but lovingly lavishing it on welfare.

I can just about believe that Burnham has calculated that he doesn’t have the time to get back into the action and has entered a pact to get rid of the Starmer blockage on him, with a view to a late entrance under Streeting. Dicey stuff for him though. And for Streeting, come to that.

Politicians, eh. 🤦‍♀️

Machiavelli would be proud!

boyleslaw · 11/05/2026 20:45

Completely agree. Except they aren’t really bright enough to be Machiavellian

Hallowedturf · 11/05/2026 20:48

My fear now is that Starmer attempts to use tomorrow’s inevitable market volatility to repeat his ‘chaos’ narrative - propped up by Reeves.
