Who enjoys wine daily? No judgement please! Just curious to know who else enjoys wine as much as I do and if it’s common or I am just crazy!

So I do have two very young children, aged 3 and a 10 month old baby and I work full time so things can get very stressful. It gets to about 6pm and I just crave a glass of wine every single night and it definitely helps after a very hectic day! To be honest I have always had at least 1 glass of wine most nights from the age of about 25, I am now 32. Some people I know think it is mad that I have a glass or two almost every night but I feel this is so normal, especially for Mums. Who else is with me on this or am I not normal?! 😂

Oh be careful. You’ll be labelled an alcoholic in about 3, 2, 1….

quarterlyreporting · 07/05/2026 21:25

Not normal in my house. Its very rare for me to have a glass of wine.

Pugglywuggly · 07/05/2026 21:25

I'd say it's common, and it's certainly what I used to do. But it gradually caught up with me. It's a lot of units per week.

I have at least 2 large glasses of wine a night and don’t give a fuck what the pearl clutchers have to say

EarringsandLipstick · 07/05/2026 21:26

I think it’s quite common but it is a really poor habit to get into. You’re likely drinking more than you think & cumulatively it’s probably exceeding the recommended limit.

Limiting alcohol intake is one of the best things we can do for our health.

I know it’s easier said than done but you need to find a better outlet for your stress or a healthier way to relax.

yawatnow · 07/05/2026 21:26

Nothing normal about daily drinking.

It’s not pearl-clutching to point out this is seriously problematic for your health. It’s undisputed, scientifically.

Zov · 07/05/2026 21:27

Yeah I'm sorry @Biosblbay but there's no way it's OK or healthy to be drinking alcohol every day...

awaits the posts saying 'yeah but in EUROPE........' 😆

Craving alcohol every day by 6 pm & following through with a daily drink is at least problematic behaviour.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 07/05/2026 21:29

I don’t think it’s normal and self medicating with alcohol isn’t great.

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 07/05/2026 21:29

It’s a good idea to have a couple of days off a week, but whether you’re drinking too much depends on the size of the glass and whether it’s 1 or 2 glasses. You could be drinking anything from about a bottle and a half (fine) and almost 4 bottles a week (well over the recommended max weekly units)

Mintyt · 07/05/2026 21:31

Me, l love a glass of wine, my x used to work in export / import and brought back wine. I think I have a glass every day. Home from work, children sorted. House tidy, glass of wine. Now days. Home from work, char about the day - glass of wine, cook, eat, clear away, get ready for bed, another glass ( so half a bottle in total,

You can drink as much as you like - it's your life

But calling calling people Pearl Clutchers just because they have a different attitude to alcohol and don't want to damage their health or even lose their life to it is just downright nasty amd uncalled for.

cinderswithahorse · 07/05/2026 21:34

It’s very common just not on Mumsnet

Crikeyalmighty · 07/05/2026 21:35

I only drink wine every day if on holiday - normally it’s half a bottle on a Friday night and same again on Saturday

lightningatmidnight · 07/05/2026 21:35

I have a 5 year old and a 1.5 year old and my husband works away a lot and I work - I’m exactly the same, a glass or two more often than not. I try to have a couple of nights off a week and feel great when I do (much deeper sleep) but that 6pm wine helps me wind down during the bedtime rush so much better! It’s like a signal that downtime is starting. I try not to be too harsh on myself about it as I think it’s the season of life we’re in. It’s a vice but there are worse things

Tableforjoan · 07/05/2026 21:36

Sometimes I have a drink every night sometimes I don’t.

Difference is if you need it. If you hit a certain time and you have to have a drink.

I have a whole bar at my home and I can take it or leave it. But if I feel like a glass I’ll get one and if I don’t I won’t.

tiramisugelato · 07/05/2026 21:36

No, definitely not normal.

MidnightPatrol · 07/05/2026 21:36

I would enthusiastically do this, but try to take at least
monday and Tuesday off…!

I also think… I don’t have a lot, just frequently. I can’t remember the last time I was actually drunk or
had a hangover.

Bunnyotter1896 · 07/05/2026 21:38

I would love a glass of wine every evening. Though for I do find it leads to two then three.....so I have had to dial it back and have boundaries around alcohol. For me its not drinking if working the next day (i am part time) and never more than a bottle of wine in a sitting. If i could have one and not want another then i would join you. So Yes I would like a glass or two every night. . A nice relaxing wine in front of the tv is enjoyable. Do you have more at the weekends or stick to two glasses then too?

Somesweetday · 07/05/2026 21:39

cinderswithahorse · 07/05/2026 21:34

It’s very common just not on Mumsnet

Because those that are doing it are too drunk to post on MN?

abracadabra1980 · 07/05/2026 21:39

I absolutely loved [2] glasses of wine, from about tea time onwards, when kids were young. The time from post school to bed was beautiful bit to torturous at the same time to me, as a single parent and 'just hanging on in there' insomniac. It got me through. I genuinely love wine (or did) and pairing it with food etc.. however hit menopause and Jesus, can't now even drink one glass without feeling it badly. The dehydration is awful. My liver is fine - not so much my brain after having to deal with a hideously abusive, wealthy, narcissist.

DustyMaiden · 07/05/2026 21:41

Reminds me of my DB he drank every day, never drunk. Insisted it was normal. He’s dead now.

Looseweightlooseinterest · 07/05/2026 21:42

I absolutely love a couple of glasses of wine a few days a week now my children are living away from home. I just didn’t enjoy drinking alcohol when they needed me to be present’ ie school run, picking up from friends, dealing with baby/ toddler’s at stupid O clock. So no judgement but I couldn’t have coped when they were younger.

Notmeagain12 · 07/05/2026 21:44

It’s the “craving” part that stands out to me.

can you stop? Go a few nights without thinking about it, without the “craving” taking over?

to me it’s the “need”. Needing it to relax, to block out the day, to feel better, not just physically but emotionally.

my brother developed a daily drinking habit. Just one beer on an evening “to relax”. It was civilised, normal, a grown up habit.

until he visited me one Easter weekend. We don’t drink so I’d got him a six pack to least the four days. Well he panicked. Had me driving around the city centre at 6 pm on a Thursday to buy more. Shops might be shut, it’s Easter..

it was then her realised that it wasn’t a harmless habit and he needed alcohol. He needed to know there was alcohol in the house, he needed to drink every night.

he’s stopped now and only drinks occasionally. He still can’t not have alcohol in the house though, needs to know it’s there “in case”.
