Who enjoys wine daily? No judgement please! Just curious to know who else enjoys wine as much as I do and if it’s common or I am just crazy!

So I do have two very young children, aged 3 and a 10 month old baby and I work full time so things can get very stressful. It gets to about 6pm and I just crave a glass of wine every single night and it definitely helps after a very hectic day! To be honest I have always had at least 1 glass of wine most nights from the age of about 25, I am now 32. Some people I know think it is mad that I have a glass or two almost every night but I feel this is so normal, especially for Mums. Who else is with me on this or am I not normal?! 😂

2 glasses of wine a night with a 10 month old? Not a chance. I’d feel rough as anything the next morning and good for nothing.

I do have wine on a Fri and Sat evening but my kids are much older now.

Timetakesacigarette · 07/05/2026 22:06

No judgement here but 3-4 bottles a week is about 30-38 units depending on the wine strength. I find it useful to measure out 125mls in a glass and have two of those 3 x a week (Fr/Sa/Su). I quite like a ginger Kombucha too - dry and good to sip.

DuskOPorter · 07/05/2026 22:06

I would love to but I know it is bad for me so I drink a bottle to a bottle and an half over the weekend instead - every weekend.

I think it’s probably quite common, not great for you but you’re aware of this - we all have a vice of some kind and many of them won’t be especially good for us.
i have an electric cigarette that I’m not giving up!
I only drink daily when on holiday and even then I might still have a day or two over the course of 10 days where I don’t have a drink. But I can’t handle hangovers anymore (40) and realised a couple of years ago that I had dreadful hangxiety so now I drink on holidays and maybe 5/6 other times throughout the year, and for the before reasons, will literally be one or two at the absolute most!
Just a bit of a lightweight now, used to really enjoy a boozy session.

To all the pearl-clutchers… do you eat sausages or bacon? Pastries? Things cooked in seed oils? If so, you are doing far more damage to your health thank someone who has a couple of glasses of wine a night.

To be fair, no I don’t.

thing about daily drinking is it catches up with you, and then it takes a lot of time to reverse the damage. I’m no alcohol prude, but it’s not healthy. It doesn’t mean it’s the onky unhealthy thing you can do, and I’m sure there will be people sitting overeating and being fat,and damaging their health that way, or smoking, who clutch their pearls about daily drinking, but two wrongs don’t make a right and it doesn’t make daily drinking any healthier.

Yeah I'm sorry @Biosblbay but there's no way it's OK or healthy to be drinking alcohol every day...

awaits the posts saying 'yeah but in EUROPE........' 😆

in europe people drink A LOT less than in the UK

CheeseWisely · 07/05/2026 22:14

I’d love a glass every night after a day with a toddler but I find it often rolls in 2, or sometimes 3, so I try to have 4 days a week alcohol free. I recognise that I sleep earlier and better without wine and am more tolerant with DS the next day (although I’m rarely actually hungover and never falling down drunk), but it doesn’t stop the call of that relaxed feeling after a glass.

Peopleshouldhavetails · 07/05/2026 22:27

I’d love to drink wine every night but aim to have at least 3 nights a week off as it’s not healthy to drink every night.
On a drinking night, I mostly stick to 2 glasses unless I’m out out.
My main concern is the increase risk of cancer.

Ridingthegravytrain · 07/05/2026 22:29

I did it when my kids were your ages. I stopped when they got a bit older.

3678194b · 07/05/2026 22:33

I never drink at home. Main reason is I'm the only adult and don't find any point in drinking alone. If out for dinner, I'm usually driving anyway so don't have any alcohol, saying that even if I'm not driving I don't drink out either.

When and where I do drink wine, or any alcohol is on holiday, if its part of an all inclusive.

friendlycat · 07/05/2026 22:33

The problem is that 3 to 4 bottles a week is heading into 40 units a week which is way too much. It will then with time increase to say 50 units a week.

Now I used to drink this amount and more in my younger days. Last year I was diagnosed with oral cancer and had surgery that fortunately sorted the problem but will now be checked every 4 months for life.

I’m 30 years older than you and always ignored the niggling thoughts that I drank too much until confronted with the evidence that alcohol causes health issues.

I only drank at weekends for the previous 12 years leading up to my diagnosis as well with at least 3 or 4 days alcohol free each week. But I made up for it at the weekend. Alcohol contains ethanol and ultimately is a poison that our bodies can’t handle. It’s actually amazing reading just how terribly damaging it is when you are faced with knocking it on the head for good.

I really would cut back if I were you and I mean that kindly knowing what I know now and what I ignored for years.

Devondevs · 07/05/2026 22:34

I can easily drink a bottle a night and often do. Sometimes I’ll take a week off from drinking completely. Life is about balance.

gamerchick · 07/05/2026 22:35

I can enjoy a glass of wine, but any kind of alcohol, even a little makes me feel tired and sluggish the next day. So I try to avoid it during the week. I think now I'm old and I'm the thick of menopause, I treasure feeling rested over anything else.

Cakeandcardio · 07/05/2026 22:35

I could easily have that but I try to stick to 3 nights a week max as I don't feel great if I drink every night.

BlackRowan · 07/05/2026 22:02

That’s because you are 32!
im 45 with young kids and hangovers from ONE glass of wine are real; id be dead from hangovers if I had a glass every day.

enjoy it while it lasts! :)

I’m the same. In my mid 50’s I barely drink, in my 30’s I was a bit of a lush 🥂

ToRideOrNotToRide · 07/05/2026 22:39

Not normal for me (or DH). I probably have a drink once a month or so when I go out.

You can drink as much as you like - it's your life

But calling calling people Pearl Clutchers just because they have a different attitude to alcohol and don't want to damage their health or even lose their life to it is just downright nasty amd uncalled for.

I agree. I would be considered a pearl clutter I guess because I do think that is a lot of wine to be drinking. My dad has always had a "drink". He's now an alcoholic and is ruining his and others life. It started off as a couple of beers/cider after work. Now he's downing bottles of vodka every day and somehow he's still alive. I'm just waiting for the phone call to say he's died to be honest.

1dayatatime · 07/05/2026 22:43

Tax raised annually from alcohol duties = £11.9 billion.
Cost to the UK as a result of alcohol: £27.4 billion. Includes over £4.9 billion for the NHS, £14.5 billion for alcohol related crime, and £5 billion in lost productivity from alcohol.

So basically alcohol duties ought to be tripled- starting with bringing supermarket sold alcohol prices in line with pub alcohol prices through additional duties.

Lavender tea is about as rock n roll as I get as I can't stand alcohol. In my 40s though. I can't remember the last time I drank wine.

AbundantFlowers · 07/05/2026 22:45

Yeah I used to. Now I’m 50 and wine has turned against me! Enjoy while you can op 🍷

Mmm lavender tea 💖

barkygoldie · 07/05/2026 22:51

Not normal for me, or many of my friends I think, but I’ve never asked! You sound quite happy with it though.

Happyjoe · 07/05/2026 22:53

I used to like a beer, rather than wine but in a social way, not at home but with friends. Then I got a job where 4.30am was my alarm call and had to give up drinking in the week because of drink driving in the morning at that time of day. Now I can't drink at all, hate how it makes me feel but I really miss the social side of it and how good the first sip tasted.

Life your life how you see fit as long as it doesn't affect negatively others I say.

yonem · 07/05/2026 22:55

I like wine but I’ve never craved it and would be concerned if I did.

Your caffeine tolerance must also be incredible to have a green tea at bedtime!

AEIOYOU · 07/05/2026 22:57

Pugglywuggly · 07/05/2026 21:25

I'd say it's common, and it's certainly what I used to do. But it gradually caught up with me. It's a lot of units per week.

@Pugglywuggly in what way did it catch up with you?
