Are you still using your first mobile phone number?

My mobile phone number is the first (and only) mobile phone number I've ever had. I got it before the providers inserted the '7' after the 0 to the numbers who didn't have it. So that's nearly 30 years ago I guess.

Are you still using your first mobile phone number? I thought I was unusual but apparently quite a few people are still on their first. Are you?

Had a work mobile in 1993, but I bought my own in 94 or 95 and still have that number.

AuContrairePubicHair · 06/05/2026 18:20

No, second.

I had the same one from 1999-2008 then had to change it on advice of the police after an ex started stalking me 😬

wohmum · 06/05/2026 18:22

yes, me and DH have matching numbers ( the same except the last couple of digits) - I can remember going to a shop on Marylebone road in London and choosing our phones and numbers . Must be nearly 30 years now

exLtEveDallas · 06/05/2026 18:23

Yep same number since 1996, with just a change from 0370 to 07770. Back then the shop (vodaphone) gave me a list of 5 or 6 numbers that I could choose one from and I chose the one that was easiest to remember (sequential numbers). People are usually surprised if I give them my number and when I was still single, blokes assumed it was fake!

chattyness · 06/05/2026 18:28

No it my second,I've had for 20+ years. I have matching numbers with my DH with just one digit difference so very easy to remember thankfully

WhatWouldDianeLockhartDo · 06/05/2026 18:28

My mammy does and that was in the 90s when hardly anyone had them. Ive had a phone since about 2001 and used to change number with every contract which used to be 12 months, not the 36 months beasts of today. I think in 2007 I got this number but tbh it’s a bit of a hindrance as I get so many spam calls. I think if I refreshed then I wouldn’t.

GarlicMind · 06/05/2026 18:34

No, because I didn't have a mobile for a few years while travelling. If you could even get a viable signal - cell coverage wasn't widespread and you had to worry about which waveband each country used - the call recipient had to pay the astronomical fee, there was no roaming facility.

I've had my current number since 1997 but the first one was better. Like a PP, I was able to choose one I liked.

PatsFishTank · 06/05/2026 18:36

Yes, it was a work number which I took with me when I left a job about 30 years ago.

Yup. What ls really odd is my house phone has the number *378. We’re a farm. When I was little the stars didn’t exist and our phone number was just Hello, name of village 378. The farm next door is 379, the school is 377 and the vicarage 376.

my family have had that number since my grandad installed a phone line in 1951!!!

Heyhelga · 06/05/2026 18:47

Yes I am. Had the number for about 20 years.

whattheysay · 06/05/2026 20:18

I got my first mobile in 1998 so this number is not my first but it’s maybe 25 years old. It changed when they added the 7 I think

Tarkan · 06/05/2026 20:43

I used to change my number every time I got a new phone as it was just easier to send a mass text to people with my new number. I changed networks a few times too and I remember they used to be really funny if you wanted to keep your number and I couldn’t be arsed with the bother.

I’ve had my current number for a few years now though and I’ve transferred it when moving network recently too as it’s definitely much easier for that nowadays.

Passingthrough123 · 06/05/2026 20:44

Yes! Got it in the mid-90s and have had it ever since.

Bubblewrapart · 06/05/2026 20:45

Was compelled to change mine after a douchebag ex misused it to the point of being threatened with a restraining order.

My new one is super easy to remember, lots of repeating numbers. Very sing songy. Softened the blow. But would have liked to keep the original!

zurigo · 06/05/2026 20:48

Yes, I’ve had mine since 1997, which is when I got my first brick phone with Orange after I graduated and moved to London.

RedRiverShore6 · 06/05/2026 20:49

No, had several up until about 2014, then same since then

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 06/05/2026 20:51

Yes. Got my first phone in 1993 so have had the number 33 years now

JaneIves · 06/05/2026 20:53

My husband has his ‘0958’ number still, with the 7 added on.
The number I have now I’ve had for around 25 years, prior to that I had an ‘0956’ number which I wish I still had! My first phone was a real brick, with a credit card sized SIM card and a pull out aerial.

spiderlight · 06/05/2026 21:03

Yes - had it since late 1999.

Nogimachi · 06/05/2026 21:04

I was abroad when I got my first one but came back to England 20 years ago and have had the same one since then!

CharSiu · 06/05/2026 21:09

I have the same number, had my first phone in 2000.

Helpmechooseausername · 06/05/2026 21:11

Yep, still got mine from 30+ years ago and had the 7 added.
The phone was massive and had a pull up ariel but I thought it was dead fancy!
If it rang it displayed 'incoming call' but no clue as to who it was calling you! Or it would tell you 'missed call' but no way of knowing who'd called.
I got bored with the ring tone so found a way of manually programming it to play a tune with different beeps! Still thought it was so cool to actually be able to carry a phone with me!!

Ginlovingmumof4 · 06/05/2026 21:29

Yes still the same one from my BT Cellnet phone. It’s a great number and very easy to remember. People often comment on that.

SallyAnnDrivesACar · 06/05/2026 21:31

Yep. I guess I've had a phone since I was 20 - 33 years ish.

museumum · 06/05/2026 21:32

Yes. Got it in 1999 for job hunting after I graduated from my postgrad course.
