A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Whatever the final figure for Labour losses in England turns out to be it will be the 2nd highest number over the past 50 years.

only Conservative losses in 1995, which exceeded 2,000, has a higher figure. Though on an election with a lot more councils having election, and by the looks of it the Conservatives defending around 4,000 seats far more than Labour weee defending last Thursday.

Hallowedturf · 09/05/2026 14:28

I am utterly convinced Starmer is a narcissist.

He certainly has a number of the core traits.

I recall someone i worked with believing with great sincerity that no-one should earn more than £26k. She stood for her local elections based on that platform.

I liked to think she would eventually grow up. But no. She just moved in to national politics.

I'm beginning to think that we're just being had by all these people and we have been for a long time

They don't actually believe the things they say they believe. Since the invention of social media I've realised that a lot of people are masters of trolling and it stands to reason that those people were also masters of this kind of manipulation before social media

They are tuned into a section of society that I don't understand at all, and that's why they're doing so well.

When was this just out of interest?

Thanks for this. Some unhappy and angry Labour supporters on here atm.

This does give me some hope for the Conservatives at a GE; could be a very different picture by the time it comes around of course, but many people will have had a chance to see how Reform have performed at a local level by then too.

This is very similar to the GE voting intention %.

It is all quite interesting and shows that headline figures aren't everything (though they can be as they seem, as well as showing more information).

I do wonder if the Reform votes aren't actually concentrated enough to perform well in a GE. PR would probably be better for them.

If I were Reeves I’d be alarmed at having Brown onboard. She’ll never shut him up about what he thinks she should be doing.

And it'll be because he's a misogynist, not because she's shite at her job!

“We are gathered here today…”. 😆

The AI film of that would open with Prince's song "let's go crazy" because it starts with "dearly beloved" so Reeves would do the marriage and then they all start dancing

The sad thing is, I dislike them too much for that to actually be funny (though it should be).

redange · 09/05/2026 16:07

Whatever, the polls suggest would be the likely outcome at a General Election based on these local Election Results, we need to make sure the estimated 380 seats between Reform and Conservative remain so. By doing so we ensure the 'Left' which is Far Left is not in a position to form any 'minority' or Rainbow coalition of destruction. We also need on the right to ensure the combined 47% gets the best combination of seats possible.

I cannot fathom how controlling the borders, making work pay more than benefits and introducing policies to protect the indigenous makes you a Far Right Fascist The term indigenous here being not to define some-ones race but those who have contributed for generations, therefore indigenous British people are 'multi racial' but define themselves in a mono culturally British way.

Secondly, I could not imagine that when Labour comprised their 1945 Election Manifesto that it proposed 'Welfare' would provide a better standard of living than working. Nor can it be imagined that Atlee would have been in favour of uncontrolled border, where we collect people who have chosen to leave a safe country, to enter the UK. in effect these people have chosen 'cross a live railway' track and are not 'Deported' unless they can give a plausible reason for trespassing !

redange · 09/05/2026 16:12

They should be Deported unless they provide a plausible reason for trespass, looking for a 'higher' standard of living is not an acceptable one.

Labour up to 1445 losses as reported on Sky News.

Still 15 seats to be declared in Bradford, plus Croydon, Tower Hamlets and Lewisham to fully complete.

not sure if the last two in Brum have been confirmed.

I think 1450 will be reached.

I take it their ire is as usual being misdirected along with a focus on symptoms rather than the cause, and a general refusal to accept objective reality. It’s a shame time travel isn’t an option, so many would have felt right at home with the Inquisition.

More on London, copy splurge

Labour has lost control of another council in London, as the Greens become the biggest party in Lambeth, winning 29 seats to Labour's 26, with the Lib Dems picking up eight.

After a night when they won mayoral contests in Hackney and Lewisham, as well as their first London borough in Waltham Forest, the Green surge has continued.

Their eyes will now be focussed on nearby Lewisham to see if they can win the council there to add to their victory in the mayoral race.

London's Labour mayor has called his party's results in the capital "bitterly disappointing", blaming the government for Labour's long list of casualties across London.

And it is a long list, losing control in Hackney, Lewisham, Haringey, Brent, Waltham Forest, Southwark, Enfield, Barnet, Wandsworth, Westminster and Newham.

SapphireCasino · 09/05/2026 16:37

@redange yes one of the things that really shows up on some of the threads at the moment is that some people are judging policies by very strange parameters

And if you try and say anything neutral, no one ever replies

There is one thread where somebody from another country has explained that in other countries, some so-called right wing policies are considered perfectly normal and would be things that every party would have on the ballot. Crickets.

BTW, I'm just catching up with Patrick Christy's show from last night - if you listen to the acceptance speech of the mayor of Hackney, it's like some kind of left-wing bingo, listening to her talk about the people who she feel needs help in some way. It's completely bonkers. I'm so sick of this victim mentality and of course they don't like me because they want a non-white woman to tick some kind of victim box and I don't... anyway, I think some of the people waving around the term "far right fascist"
are so far removed from reality, but I guess a lot of them are living in Hackney? Note to self, don't go to Hackney !

Actually, did anyone else watch it last night? I see they have won the ratings for the election coverage

Im trying to get some chores done at the same time so I missed the details of the person who thinks Keir Starmer should stay - looks like he's about to cry. Actually, I think KS should probably stay on the basis that it's a shit job for anyone now?

SapphireCasino · 09/05/2026 16:39

Total sidebar but I also watched something on Triggernometry with a comedian saying that anyone trying to break through as a comedian in America is claiming some sort of special identity. Because you have to. I don't think a white straight man will get the work any more.

boys3 · 09/05/2026 16:49

Still 45 seats to be declared in Lewisham. Labour have lost 8 of the 9 declared so far.

9 seats left to go In Bradford where Reform will be the largest party in a NOC irrespective of how those final seats’ results go.

Croydon close to conclusion, 6 seats left. NOC

Tower Hamlets …… well is Tower Hamlets.

I think the Mayor of London needs to have a good look in the mirror.

The city is drowning in rubbish, people don’t feel safe, I know I had a few unpleasant moments, the Tube strike are a joke, police funding keeps getting cut.

The cheek of blaming someone else!

DrasticAction · 09/05/2026 16:57

Yesterday on sky an authority figure from Belgium possibly a mayor where they are crossing from now said the navy in the sea would stop them along with law changes.
