A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I’ve just looked at the results for Tameside. If there was a general election tomorrow AR would most likely lose her seat wouldn’t she?

Yes she is predicted to lose her seat to Reform, along with lots of other northern Labour MPs.

Watching and reading and can I just say, it is GLORIOUS.

DancingFerret · 08/05/2026 09:20

As I went to bed last night Lammy was saying, “Let me be clear…” and the first thing I heard this morning was Starmer saying, “Let me be clear…” - and this morning’s results so far indicate the public mood is also clear: Labour is toast.

Sarahconnor1 · 08/05/2026 09:24

In wigan 24 out of the 25 seats contested went to Reform.

Lisa Nandy could also be in trouble.

Hallowedturf · 08/05/2026 09:27

I think the question now is:

What needs to happen for Starmer to step down?
What kind of catastrophe do we need to experience before he does the honourable thing?

Upstartled · 08/05/2026 09:27

I wonder if anyone is keeping a tally of how the seats which were very nearly cancelled are doing?

Yeah I was just looking at a colour map of Wigan on Sky showing the swing. Red to turquoise. Very stark.

I think we're already at that level of catastrophe, and we haven't had results from Wales yet.
Problem is he has no honour or integrity.

That will be good to see when all results are in.

Wise words, from our leaders. “Let me be clear….”

Labour supporters, Sir Keir Starmer does not have a divine right to rule.

Integrity, productivity, growth and accountability mean so much more me that this governments managed decline, stability model. Come on!

Albertroad · 08/05/2026 09:33

Morning All. No election where I live (very tory here), but enjoying results so far!

Lucky for Labour it was only 1/3 up for election.

a number of all out elections in the Red Wall areas counting today in those bigger metropolitan and unitary councils. My quick skim suggests in those bigger councils with all out elections counting today Labour had near 700 councillors going into this election. Given results in places like Wigan and Tameside I can almost see that 700 being nearer 70 by teatime. Fingers crossed.

Then the likes of Manchester, Leeds, North Tyneside, Rochdale etc have 1/3 up with counting getting underway.

He has zero political legitimacy, or capital.

Starmer is absolutely confident that he isn't the problem. "Let me be clear, <insert startling lack of clarity>"

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 08/05/2026 09:38

Are there any projections being offered by pollsters for total English seats lost/gained, for each party?

The few still loyal to Starmer are the same.

Hartlepool completely doubled down on their support for Reform.

There is nothing to redeem Sir Keir Starmer in the results from England overnight, nor any plausible consoling fiction left to cling on to. At best, Labour MPs are being taught a hard lesson about the fantastical unpopularity of their leader. At worst, they are witnessing — and frankly are complicit in — Labour’s demise as a national party.

Labour’s heartlands lie in ruins and the worst may be to come

As Nigel Farage breaks through the ‘red wall’, Sir Keir Starmer faces the reality that his party has lost its cultural and electoral bedrock

All this government has given the country is the politics of desperation and grievance.

Labour supporters acted as if their win was the second coming of Christ. What went wrong? The previous government? Ok well if there was
never a chance of them turning it around (and
now we see there isn’t a hope in hell, excuse the biblical references), maybe they should have stayed at home.

They are incapable of governing. Not everything has to be a comparison, somethings just are.

DancingFerret · 08/05/2026 09:46

Starmer is saying the reason for Labour’s losses is people are frustrated they’re not delivering fast enough the change they promised at the GE.

The truth is people are furious at the speed with which Labour have increased taxes, enabled the feckless, and crashed the economy.

@justasking111 first couple of constituencies in Wales suggest turnout up 7 to 8% compared to last time - suggesting overall turnout may be near 55%.

That doesn’t even make sense does it?

And we know that labour loyalists are very patient as they made clear yesterday on these threads.

“Keir, your supporters will wait as long as it takes for you to deliver change, forever and a day, but today shows your supporters are a minority.
The majority don’t just want you to deliver faster, we just want you to resign “

EasternStandard · 08/05/2026 10:01

‘Takes responsibility’ is meaningless isn’t it. He’s still there.
