I see there are calls for a GE after the locals. That’s very silly. I understand why politicians do this, but it’s just game playing. (The fact that Starmer called for a GE two years before the last one can be overlooked with a chuckle.)
The replacing of Starmer is also an oddity. All the noises coming out of No 10 are that it would be bad for the country if Starmer goes. That’s obviously untrue, but it misses the point completely. This is an internal Labour fight. More than any opponent, the Labour Party wants Starmer out, because he will cost them everything. No Labour MP seriously believes Starmer has any merit at all. The hesitation is because they’re split on a successor.
In any event, I suspect that Labour would have to lose in Wales (looks certain), Scotland (looks certain) and lose 1,800+ seats in England. I’ve changed my mind about English losses. I now doubt Labour will do that badly in England. They’ll go down horribly - probably 1,000 to 1,300 seats - but not enough to force Starmer out. Wait for the Labour “we’ve done better than everyone said we would” defence in TV coverage, despite the government being given a massive slapping.
Which is great news for those of us who think present Labour is a party of talentless fools. Starmer will continue to destroy it!
