Morning all. Exciting news - I have been to the outdoor swimming pool and it was glorious! Was quite busy, even at 7.30am, but manageable. Mainly bobbed about in the shallow end, with a bit of walk/ swimming as far as I could go with my feet touching the bottom. Back to mine for a cuppa in the garden, and now friend has gone home and I'm heading for a nap. I feel tired and a bit wobbly legged now, but I felt better in the water than I have done for ages.

Just need someone to build an outdoor swimming pool slightly nearer to home (it's about a half hour drive so reliant on someone else for now - I used to go regularly on the train but that'd be a bit much at the moment).

Also a big fan of the pyjama-like summer trousers, I got several pairs from Vinted that are a mix of M&S and Next. So comfy.

Take care in the heat all - meant to be 26c here today then 31 tomorrow 🥵

@martha79 wow that's warm!
I'm in rural NE Scotland. It'll get to around 19°c today, highest in the week approx 24°c.
It's currently overcast & muggy. Not pleasant.

I lived several years in Scotland and used to visit my (Scottish) boyfriend who lived in London. Used to hate it when it was 28degrees in London...then back on the train...past Carlisle and it would cloud over. Reckon I'd be the reverse now!

I would dearly love to visit Scotland again. It's been so long but not sure how I'll manage it.

I'm thinking of doing the super expensive sleeper train one day perhaps. Once DS grows up and has his own holidays.

I just love the idea of the sleeper train! So much nicer than hours of motorways, and better than flying.

JewelleryCat · 24/05/2026 12:04

@CoffeeBeansGalore that sounds like a perfect temperature for me lol. Overcast sounds good too but maybe not muggy

TodayIsatrickyone · 24/05/2026 12:12

Love Scotland here too! My son and his GF went up there to do a masters 5 years ago and loved it so much they both found jobs snd have stayed. We live on the South coast so a long way. Miss them but they keep in touch regularly and come back for visits as GF is from this area too. We have managed to fly up most years as there are flights from our local airport which makes a huge difference. It takes it out of me but totally worth it. Also the journey is better in a way than his first uni as that was a good 5 hours drive so just out of the question for me.
I would also love to do the sleeper train one day @MewithME but yes it’s pricey! Flights can actually be fairly cheap depending on time
of year. DS has one booked for about £20 in a couple of weeks as he has a stag weekend a couple of hours away so will fly home first for a day or so which is nice.

Glad you got the dress @TeaAndStrumpets make sure you float around in it looking fabulous!

I packed most of my summer stuff away and havent had the energy to get it out though I had bought a few new vest tops and baggy trousers for my cruise this summer so have been wearing those as all a little in the air still if I’ll make it but hoping insurance will be kind and let me travel!
Then I opened a drawer this morning and realised organised me had put some shorts and vest tops in it last autumn instead of packing them away! Shame I forgot 😂

danglethedingle · 24/05/2026 12:26

I got some nice wide leg trousers off Vinted as well!

I am fully embracing the secret pyjama philosophy. If clothes aren't comfy enough to sleep in, they are not for me.

I have only worn one pair as yet, because I have to take up the other two pairs.

Its annoying, but if I get the petite ones they are too short in the body, so I get the regular and take them up. My shortness is only in my legs, well shins really, I look quite in proportion until my knees, when I suddenly turn into a dachshund.

Used to be able to get round it by simply wearing heels all the time, alas, I am now in orthotics.

Hope everyone has a nice Sunday. 😎

FuzzyPuffling · 24/05/2026 12:49

I am deeply grateful for my northish facing sitting room. It's cool.

I need to get my sewing machine out and make floppy trousers. It is floppy trouser weather.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 24/05/2026 12:53

I love it up here. It's rarely muggy where we are so it's usually fine.
Winter we get snow which is lovely to see for a while. But they are pretty good at clearing the roads. We sometimes get snowed in for a day or 2 but we start prepping September, stocking up the freezer, cupboard essentials, etc. We have a camping stove & oven and a generator. So most bases covered. Unfortunately we no longer have an open fire but we do have a mobile gas heater for emergencies.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 24/05/2026 12:55

@FuzzyPuffling floppy trouser weather 🤣.
Perfect description!

martha79 · 24/05/2026 13:38

🤣 at dachshund legs @danglethedingle - I'm similar, short legs and long body. And I really like high waisted trousers. Very much approve of the secret pyjama philosophy too. Am currently in bed wearing floppy trousers and a t shirt.

I grew up in Scotland (middle/ South) and family are still there but I left 20 years ago. I do miss certain things like the scenery and being more likely to get proper snow.

I seem to have the post-swimming hunger despite not actually moving that much!

TodayIsatrickyone · 24/05/2026 14:21

Also smiling at Daschund legs @danglethedingle though I’m a Daschund owner so I’m bound to approve. 😊

Oh I am exactly the same about trousers. Petite trousers are always too short in the crotch which is really annoying! IBS tummy expansion doesn't help. I suppose at least I don't need to buy petite tops, it is actually only my legs that forgot to grow 🙄.

I was very pleased when harem pants came in, the inside leg was so adjustable, but masses of fabric was rather annoying. I agree if clothing isn't comfy it's no use!! I wear skirts a lot.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 24/05/2026 21:11

@TodayIsatrickyone I adore dachshunds. Met a pup a couple of years ago called Louis. Such a sweetie.
Is yours wire haired or short?

TodayIsatrickyone · 25/05/2026 09:23

@CoffeeBeansGalore they are such little characters aren’t they!
My current rescue is a smooth haired miniature. Shes a dapple with one blue and brown eye so quite unusual looking! She’s quite an anxious little soul who it seems wasn’t socialised much as she is very barky with dogs and strangers which can be challenging. However wirh us she’s the sweetest most affectionate girl, she’s 18 months old now so still very playful and funny but also loves a snooze. We all adore her.

We previously had 2 long haired standard Daschunds ( brother and sister) who were rehomed at 5 months and they started my love for the breed as they were such characters! I was devastated when we eventually lost them both and the house felt too quiet so in time we started to look at rescues.

We just wanted to give a dog a home that needed one not necessarily a dachshund but then we saw this one on the website looking for a foster home to save her going into kennels. So she came and never left!

ValleyClouds · 25/05/2026 09:26

I’d love to get a dog but it’s just not feasible

Debating whether to hide from the sun or bask in the sun. I love it but I burn so easily and I’m waiting for my suncream to be delivered later.

TodayIsatrickyone · 25/05/2026 09:41

@ValleyClouds it has to be the right circumstances for everyone doesn’t it. I have DH & DD around to walk her etc otherwise there’s no way I’d be able to have her.

ValleyClouds · 25/05/2026 09:45

@TodayIsatrickyone my sister adores her dog he’s her world, I’d like to have that sort of relationship

danglethedingle · 25/05/2026 10:04

I would hate to be without a DDog, but my current boy has got old with me and DH, and we suit each others energy levels. I don't think I could cope with a youngster now.

Speaking of youngsters, well relatively young, we have number 3 son coming to stay for a few days. It will be lovely to see him. And I am planning on getting him to help DH move the sofas so I can hoover behind them. Might as well make use of those muscles. 😁

martha79 · 25/05/2026 10:21

I love hearing about everyone's dogs - I did Borrow My Doggy a few years back and loved my once a week dog walk (he was a huge boxer, an absolute softy). I am more of a cat person but like regular dog company 🙂

I'm too hot... managed a very short walk this morning and watered the garden. I was sitting out there in the shade but it's already starting to feel humid 🥵 Taking it easy indoors for the rest of the day.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 25/05/2026 10:34

Morning.
Finally have some sun 🥳🌞.
Thank you for doggy info all. @TodayIsatrickyone she sounds very pretty.
My first husky had one blue & one brown eye. She was a character.

Swanhilde · 25/05/2026 10:53

Another day of peaceful rest here ☀️😎🍹

TeaAndStrumpets · 25/05/2026 11:01

Morning all!

Finally got some housework organised. DH has been given a list and he's working through it at his own pace, crossing things off. He can't cope with ad hoc instructions but if it's on "the list" he'll do it. Today he is charging around in this heat hoovering because it's on his list.

I had to pre-book a diy trim with him and he agreed to do it this morning straight after my shower...so it's on the list. I interrupted his hoovering for the trim, cape and scissors at the the ready, and he started chopping. Oh dear. I asked for an inch off and it's a massacre. Eventually I marched off to the bathroom mirror and started to even it up, him complaining about the hair being dropped into the sink and floor (cleaned as per list!). He helped me tidy a few bits at the back, then made me stand still while he HOOVERED MY NECK. I could hardly keep still for laughing.

I think one of the reasons I love him is he doesn't know how ridiculous he is 😂

TodayIsatrickyone · 25/05/2026 13:11

Oh bless him @TeaAndStrumpets the hoovering your neck is hilarious!

@danglethedingle yes my last dog was 12 when we lost her and the laziest dog on earth who was very happy with a slow short sniffy walk and a lot of snoozing on the sofa so we suited each other. A younger dog ( with issues) has been a shock to the system but she is calming and I wouldn’t be without her now. Though I am already thinking I may not get another. I also love cats so that could be an easier option!

We did borrow my doggy too @martha79 after losing our last dog but not feeling ready for another and built up a lovely relationship with another little sausage dog. He loved coming for the afternoon once a week and had his own toy box and treats. I was hoping to keep it going but it hasn't really worked as we weren’t told the extent of our rescues reactivity. They have met on walks a few times and they were just getting better with each other then my health took a dive. Hopefully we can try again when things improve as he’s a very sweet little dog.

Too hot for me today, tried the shade outside but indoors with the fan! Also done a bit too much pottering this morning trying to tidy a few bits away. So lying flat hoping this pain in my shoulder eases as I think the OT is due which seems strange on a bank holiday but still. The plan was to try and go down the street on my mobility scooter but I really don’t want to in this heat!

FuzzyPuffling · 25/05/2026 13:39

I'm eating an ice cream.
