Don't you think that it's all a bit unlikely - I mean there's no evidence that the NEC have changed/will change their view on him leaving the Manchester mayoralty

I think you are right. Plus it would be a betrayal of constituents for an MP to step aside for Burnham. It would not help Labour's standing one bit, plus there is the danger that constituents would be very pissed off and vote Green in retaliation.

Yes so many things that could go wrong even if it were possible!

I think that would depend on the seat. I assume Clive Lewis, for example, understands his constituency and has tested the waters with his local association.

True. Wasn't there talk of him standing down to make way for Burnham a little while ago?

DuncinToffee · Yesterday 21:36

Telegraph is saying Streeting is planning to launch a leadership challenge as well.

Re Burnham ‘within weeks’ is clearly bollocks. He’d have to resign as mayor, get someone to stand down, get selected for the seat and win it. Can’t be done in a few weeks even if everything was smoothed out for him (which it wouldn’t be). Plus whoever is agitating has forgotten he’s been rejected twice by the members…

LittleBowSheep · Yesterday 21:53

That's the second day in a row that Badenoch has ballsed up. As posters on another thread would say: Kemi is on fire!

MaybeNotBob · Yesterday 22:01

A bin fire...

If Andy Burnham puts his personal ambition over the security of a stable government I shall definitely be writing to my Labour MP to give my opinion of this pathetic alledged in fighting. Grow up, get over yourselves, allow the stability and have some fucking patience.

I'm sick of alledged manoeuvres from Burnham.

Well said!

I'd rather vote Lib Dem than Green.

But it's all moot.

He has to get the votes from the Party.

I'm not leaving the Labour party. Had to put up with misogynistic shite, it still exists, and yet Labour leads when it comes to closing the gender disparity gap. We women know. We will not be sidelined. We persevere.

TemperanceWest · Yesterday 22:24

So Guardian says Burnham, Telemail says Streeting.

I say it is all speculation and no-one knows anything for sure. Let's wait and see.

I don't think Streeting will ever be leader though.

Wosserface (never heard of her and didn't catch her name) on HIGNFY was saying the same and also propagating the idea of Rayner drinking a lot. I'll not be looking up her podcast.

Gosh, it is febrile out there. I can't remember the 2022 local elections causing this much interest on MN!

placemats · Today 14:01

Just ignore it. Most of the posts are started during the night. It's clearly designed to hit algorithms and make the site glitchy.

Dusted off the iron and the board for clothes. Will be in Rome from next Tuesday and return the following week from Sicily.

Meanwhile I still have to finish the painting of the front room - should be done soon. The place is a mess. But Rome wasn't built in a day! I'll get me coat...

You're right about when the threads are started. I hadn't clocked that.

How exciting! I hope you have a great time. Good luck with the painting.

Notonthestairs · Today 14:21

What on earth do you mean? - isn’t everyone up at 2am obsessing about local elections? 🤣

It’s not high on the list for anyone I know. Certainly not middle of the night start a MN thread worthy.

(Appreciate there are parts of the uk where it’s much more significant.)

It will be bloody for Labour and what is left of the Conservatives (although they’ll ignore it). Good for the L/Ds I hope.

But come Monday morning or whenever Labour will still be in government, the hangovers will wear off and the new local counsellors will have to do some work.

Have a great holiday placemats! I’m also away at the end of the week but in the UK - 5 whole days of zero responsibilities. Weather will obviously take a turn but I can’t wait.

They seem to not really understand the difference between local and general elections some of these posters not local council v government powers.

I am actually dreading Reform getting lots of councillors, even councils potentially- I’m even literally leafleting against them lol - but nowhere near as bothered as I may be about a GE and I’d have thought with voter turnout not many other people would be either.

Llttledrummergirls · Today 14:41

No local elections near me this time. I can only follow with interest.

We leave on Thursday morning for our trip- Paris, Berlin, Krakow and Warsaw amongst other places. Only 2-3 days in each but if we love them we can return.

cardibach · Today 14:54

I’m on my way home from Carcassonne. Interminable train journey currently but this too will pass…

Return journeys can be fraught but you get to sleep in your own bed tonight with good memories.

That’s what I’m hanging on to @placemats!
also Perdy. My cat sitter is also a pro photographer so here’s a bit of voluntary tax from the photos she sent while I was away

We been out on the bikes, it has been a while, my knees feel quite wobbly and then there is some saddle pain Grin

Looks like it is going to rain soon.

Looks like rain here too - very overcast in fact it's just started spotting - we certainly need it for the garden

DuncinToffee · Today 16:16

Oh yes, the waterbutts can do with filling up as well
