I'm currently in Germany, heading to Poland next week though, so maybe Polish?

DuncinToffee · 11/05/2026 19:59

Too early to start thinking of the next thread title?

Language preferences?

What's £5 million between friends? In Polish.

DuncinToffee · 11/05/2026 20:18

My Polish is non existent, so it would be google translate all the way

Cóż to jest 5 milionów funtów między przyjaciółmi?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 11/05/2026 16:47

I'll join in too.
Selling off GB's utilities and transport infrastruture was my mind the most damaging legacy of Thatcher's Government - and bloody Blair just carried on with it.

So sorry about your news @BIossomtoes Yes need a meet-up. I don’t really drink much but happy to drown my sorrow with cheese.

It feels odd that everyone I know (family, friends, work) share similar views on Reform. They might disagree on which party to the left to vote for but definitely against Reform

If I spoke to most people in my local cafe or on the bus there is quite a high likelihood they voted Reform. Or they might avoid me as a bit foreign. I suppose it’s part of the disconnect that got us here in the first place.

But I do! Is that bad? It’s only bad if you think it’s an insult. Please don’t say it’s got so oppressive that there are only certain words that can be used?

'Leftist' is effectively a slur these days. As is 'woke'. So when someone comes on here and uses it, it does tend to make the ears prick up. We're not oppressive at all, we just don't like to fling stereotypes around other than ironically.

My DM was weighing up carefully the best party to vote for to keep Reform and the Tories out. She decided to vote Green. By contrast, my SIL (my BIL’s DW) is much more sympathetic to the concerns about immigration. (I haven’t asked her who she voted for, though.)

PickAChew · 11/05/2026 21:20

My SIL is very much "who do they think they are? Coming over here, scrounging our benefits, stealing our jobs." We don't have a lot to do with each other.

DuncinToffee · 11/05/2026 22:18

Another thread on Starmer resigning, are they going to this hourly now?

Mumsnet right wingers are baying for a GE and Farage to be PM. No mention of Kemi, though.

PickAChew · 11/05/2026 22:49

It's the same on reddit. A lot of collective eyerolling at their persistence, there. Some of them seem to be working off the same script.

rockstarshoes · 11/05/2026 22:50

Shuffles in, head in hands! Bloody Labour, they can’t help themselves!
I’ve come back to the Haven, have been following but haven’t had much to contribute!
Sorry about your news Blossom Toes! Sending strength & best wishes!

LittleBowSheep · 11/05/2026 22:54

So sorry to hear your news @BIossomtoes. Hoping for the best for your DH.

I'd definitely be up for a meet up with you all.

Evenstar · 11/05/2026 23:44

@BIossomtoes so sorry to hear your news, please feel free to DM if you would like to chat, my DH is extremely ill now and I hope that it is more of a bump in the road for you and your DH 💐

tobee · 12/05/2026 00:25

If you’re all serious, should we try to arrange it? I could do with the distraction at the moment. I’m sitting in Addenbrookes, my bloke’s cancer is back.

I just dip in here to read because it's more sane than finding news on the BBC, but I can't post these days because I'm too upset with how politics and the media are working out.

However I wanted to post just to say I am so sorry Blossomtoes, and I really wish you and your DH some good news.

I would love to join your meet up but would probably be the one sitting in the corner with my head down muttering into my pint.

BestIsWest · 12/05/2026 07:24

Sorry to hear your news too @Evenstar.

BestIsWest · 12/05/2026 07:27

Depressed at all the manoeuvring this morning. My own MP has stated that she’s coming out against Starmer with a statement to follow today. She’s already lost DHs vote.
If the LP elect Streeting as leader I will most definitely be resigning my membership. I’m on the verge of it as it is.

PickAChew · 12/05/2026 07:33

Mine has come out against him, too but I knew she would. I don't even disagree with her entire letter but I do disagree with what she's calling for. We don't need a repeat of the shambolic PM conveyor belt circus the tories gave us.

No sunny uplands, here. We're set for another cold, grey, drizzly day. I think the weather goddess is a bit pissed off with us northerners.

I'm sorry to see your sad news, @Evenstar 💐
