My goodness, it is vicious out there on MN. Anyone would think there are elections looming!

Elections which some people think are more than local.

It is odd when posters don’t seem to understand how the UK’s parliamentary structures work.

DuncinToffee · 30/04/2026 09:38

I already start to recognise a lot of recent NCers

In other news, it is not looking good for the starling nest Sad

My sympathies. Unfortunately last year the Blackbird nest in the garden was predated upon.

Have seen several beautiful swifts majestically flying overhead. A treat to witness.

I see our bete noire appears to be back.

Is it ? The better someones knowledge of the UKs system the more suspicious I get. Native political nous is fairly low in the UK. This thread is very much an exception proving rule 😀

My late, fat ginger boy - biggest heart, but not over bright ha. I’m thinking of using him on a banner for marches - I’m a fat cat but I hate fascists

Mum (or dad) just came back and started frantically looking in other parts of the roof

Lovely holiday photos Cardi & Littlebow enjoy the break.
just musing & wondering if the latest dodgy money Farage has received has legs or be ignored yet again, gone quiet on Dubai Dick & money shenanigans as well.

Certainly hasnt been the 3 weeks of front page headlines the Mail and Telegraph have dished out in the past.

I imagine if a Thai businessman slipped Starmer 5 million quid just before the election there would be pull out colour page spreads dedicated to it.

DuncinToffee · 30/04/2026 16:38

There are some weird threads going, an apprentice style election anyone, ps educated people applications only 😅

I thought Starmer's statement on the Golders Green attack was good.

BestIsWest · 30/04/2026 18:04

Lots of anti Green threads springing up too. Are they by any chance doing well in the polls?

TemperanceWest · 30/04/2026 18:38

I am not keen on ZP or the Greens, although some of my politics align. But there is a very nasty backlash against them on MN atm.

DuncinToffee · 30/04/2026 18:38

UK terror threat raised from “substantial” to “severe” meaning a terror attack is highly likely in next six months

Polanski does need to do something about the anitsemitism in his party but that doesn't excuse the hatred directed at him.

Reading some of Andrew Bailey’s comments about the indirect impact of the Iran war on food prices, mortgages etc - the worse scenario that he set out is pretty terrifying.

Bank of England holds rates, warns of inflation threat from Iran war - https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/bank-england-holds-rates-weighs-inflation-risks-iran-war-2026-04-30/

The longer it goes on the worse it will be - and currently there is no end in sight.

I wouldn't want them in power. However I want Reform even less.

As for "antisemitism" .... this far in, I am afraid I shut down as soon as I hear the word. I've always felt it was too much of a "gotcha" in debate. And ever since I was told in no uncertain terms that it is anti-semitic to ask what anti-semitism is, I rather lost interest.

Here's Harlan Ellison talking about how he wasn't Jewish ....

(The persona wasn't an act. He really was that insufferable).

The cat isn't.

Loving Banksy's new installation in Regent Street. I think we should keep it.

The symbolism is potent and unambiguous.

I look forward to a lot of people pretending they "don't get it".

TemperanceWest · 30/04/2026 19:32

Oh God, she is awful.

That reminds me. The patron saint of racists, St. Lucy of the Burning Hotel, has written a book.🙄

SerendipityJane · 30/04/2026 19:56

I was an attendee at the 2022 Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards (renamed from BAME awards).

You couldn't move for banks, and tech companies.

BIossomtoes · 30/04/2026 20:31

Ffs it’s really bloody tetchy out there tonight. I don’t think I can stand another week of this.
